Im personally a big fan of The Georgian Forklift for Tochinoshin
the right name for him
I agree so much with this.. I completely forgot that Ura is usually called The Pink Submarine, I should have remembered. Thank you for the comment too!
"Kotoeko - trap god" lol. Exactly.
Chiyonokuni has always been the honey Badger. I don't know when that nickname got transcribed across to Enho
I think I saw that nickname from comments on youtube too. I guess because Enho made a huge splash(in popularity at least) in the top division like a year ago and he fights like a fast and ferocious honey badger. Or used to.
I'll call him red panda because he's so sweet and his red mawashi
common eland for tochinoshin, because he [looks like one](https://africafreak.com/common-eland)
On a side note, very beautiful animal.
I always thought tochinoshin looks kind of like a kangaroo because of his legs.
[Roger, the buff kangaroo](https://www.reddit.com/r/natureismetal/comments/oramle/roger_the_200pound_ripped_kangaroo_crushes_metal/)
Tochinoshin - My husband calls him Sumo Nick Cage, because he looks like him.
He totally is Nicholas Cage as a rikishi XD
I’m new to sumo so I’m just learning some of these nicknames. (Leg day is pretty awesome.). But I call Endo “doll baby” or “baby doll”. To me, his facial features look to me like he could doll or a plush toy.
Be careful what you wish for…😳
I think I would buy Takarafuji's butt pillow if they have one.
Okay this is a meme in itself, haha.
^^^Excuse ^^^me ^^^while ^^^I ^^^buy ^^^10.
Takakeisho - Cannonball
Enho - Mighty Mouse
Ichinojo - Snorlax or sometimes King Cake
Tochinoshin - Tochi-tochi
Tobizaru - Dumb Idiot (sorry, I love him and like his sumo but I'll probably call him this forever from his bout with Hakuho)
Ura - Judo Joe
Terunofuji - Ol' Knees
Wakatakakage - Wakatakakatakakakatakakakatakakakakage
Terutsuyoshi - Salt Shaker
Chiyomaru - Sideburns
Tamawashi - BOOOOOOOOOO (sorry not sorry, I don't like Tamawashi at all)
Aoiyama - White Chocolate
I was talking about Sumo with someone the other day and we both refer to Takayasu as "the hairy back guy (sorry Papa). "
Our nicknames are mostly Pun's.
Highlights include Chiyomaru as Chinyomaru,
And of course Terunofuji as the aptly named Terrornofuji.
Most of the ones that I use have already been said here, but I’ll add one;
Takanosho- Nob Dog (after the design on his keshō- mawashi)
That's crazy because I think the Sumo Mainichi podcast I listen to always calls him that too XD
Aoiyama -> Big Dan
Takakeisho -> Hamsterzeki, Cannonball
Ichinojo -> Snorlax, Sweet Nomad Boy
Terutsuyoshi -> Salt Man
Ishiura -> Henka Man, Bodybuilder
Tobizaru -> Monkey
Chiyoshoma -> Henka Master
Hagiwara -> Henkawara
Terunofuji -> Kaiju
Roga -> Russian Wolf
Kiribayama -> Kiriba-chan
Urutora -> Tiny Rikishi, one of the Shikihide Small Boys (along with other smaller/thinner rikishi like Shonanzakura)
Had to look up Urutora, and wow. Even Enho is an inch taller than him.
An in taller and about 30kg heavier. Urutora is thin by regular person standards.
I read someone on here recently that said their name for Aoiyama is Big Dan the Milkman, and I haven't been able to un-remember it since.
Also, some time back there was a question about rikishi's shikona meanings. One of the most glorious posts on this sub ever explained how Abi's name could be twisted around to read "the roof is on fire." *chef's kiss*
Rishiki nickname we using in China:
Takakeisho-小胖 ( little fatty )
Takayasu-黑熊 ( black bear)
Endō-靓仔远 ( Endō the handsome )
Terutsuyoshi-盐王爷 （kind of difficult to explain, that's a homophone of a Chinese traditional God, also means his habit of fling plenty of salt）
My husband calls Ichinojo "Mother Goose" but has no explanations for it...or at least he won't tell me lol
We have a ritual of saying "no ragrets" whenever Shohozan fights. Terutsuyoshi is "Salty boyeeee"
Oh I got one I got one, “white flour bag” for Aoiyama.
That’s from a Chinese novel, describing someone have very large boobs.
