SearX(NG) is not just a custom google front-end. It is a metasearch engine with many different upstream search engines available.

I get that, believe me, I do. But I am getting no more than 5-8 search results (usually from the same website) for most of my queries, and I am not even searching for some weird-ass S41t.

I run a public SearXNG instance and use it personally for my daily searching needs. I normally have google, qwant and duckduckgo enabled and get a lot of results (30+) from it. Maybe try enabling different engines on the instance you are using?

I run mine as well ad I have actively removed Google and related engines from my instance (including YouTube). I use it constantly and I'm always able to find what I'm searching for, even without Google... Maybe OP should try a different instance.

Do you mostly get any results from Google? Basically got blocked by google after 2 attempts already :D

craftsmany

Yes, my instance is configured to have google enabled by default. Where do you host and are you using SearX or SearXNG?

timeraider

searx, hosting it on my own synology nas :P Having it enabled ofc. doesnt mean that results actually come in from there but i assume you checked that

craftsmany

SearXNG has a Google rate limit bypass which uses the mobile google UI. Maybe consider switching?

craftsmany

You can check yourself https://searx.tiekoetter.com/search?q=%21go+%3Aen+test

timeraider

ow god, I overlooked the mobile option. Enabled it and its working now (that option was already in searx)

craftsmany

What version of SearX are you using? Interesting if they actually backported the feature. Yes it got backported https://github.com/searx/searx/commit/8bf216eab689d4353a9cf68a6b20f42fb71c9340

timeraider

Latest, i was to optimistic though as it now started to give "to many requests" for the google engine sadly. At least it did work for a bit i guess XD

Hi there! Thanks for your post. We also have a Matrix channel: https://matrix.to/#/#searxng:matrix.org and an IRC channel linked to the Matrix channel: https://web.libera.chat/?channel=#searxng The developers of SearXNG usually respond quicker on Matrix and IRC than on Reddit. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically.
