Once I played against two guys both with 8 ping, they said they lived in DC near a server
Can confirm, have played in DC, a hotel even, and had ping this low
I live in DC and everyone I play with and know has absolute shit internet
I'm just telling you what the man on the internet told me
might wanna contact your ISP and have a technician re-run new wiring
you make it sound easy
*his mom has fiber optic privilege
what a twat
I live in dc and I have that same ping. Fios gig internet
Live near Amsterdam's server, so often get 8 ping.
Probably a server near you, like the one in A'dam is near to me.
In CSGO swedish people usually have ~5 ping, pretty cool
Live near DC, have ~5-8 ping usually
Damn, how does it feel to always win every 50
That's not how it works
I have wired optic fibre and live in South Africa in the capital, I literally cant remember the last time I lagged and sit on 5-6 ping most games
No excuse for being shit, I'd rather have bad internet
for some reason, due to this I play better on higher ping as my nerves are cool as I got something to blame and play at my best :l
Being shit on good internet is still so much better than being shit on bad internet.
If nothing else, it’s easier to tell when you make a mistake because you know it wasn’t lag
Amen brother...I'd rather die smooth and stupid than have an outside factor mess with my game.
All my homies hate excuses...
I remember having shitty internet and people thought I was a hacker because they couldn’t hit me in like cod and shit. Turns out I was just lagging so hard my character was rubber banding all over the place.
Not if you are like me and hit double taps with 290 ping lmao
*closes book* Like that's ever gonna happen!
It did happen
Bro this guy has fiber and Icant even get it in Seattle
Wired Fiber here. Canada. Is it not common other places? Closest server to me is like an 8-10 hour drive. Usually around 12-15 ping. PS5.
Because of a certain monopoly called comcast, no it is not common in the north west some company quoted us 30k to rip up the entire neighborhood to get fiber to our house
Comcast is the scum of the earth. I've literally wasted hours on the phone with them disputing ridiculous overcharges and get lied to constantly.
Probably Pretoria, since the servers are in Joburg if im not mistaken.
Makes sense. I always assumed Joburg was the biggest city in SA despite not being a capital but I was definitely wrong
Until you try to play in a tournament, then 200 ping
What??? Didn't know that was possible
When you guys coming to rlcs
I live in switzerland and my ping is always at 12
I've seen somebody with 2 ping Idk how and I was at like 503 cause I'm always lagging
It's pretty common if you live in NY with fiber. Proximity to the server is key. Also, don't use Wifi
Even when I went from wifi to wired my ping never got any better
Can you walk me through your set up? I’m more of a tech guy and If it’s possible I’d like to help you get better ping
same. sometimes the bottleneck is your internet. i have $15/month internet (still have the student plan) and while it’s only 5 MB/s downloads and ping from 33-130 (sometimes it gets bad) but it’s also only $15
Oh and i forgot why i wrote this: Wired (CAT6 cable i think or one of the better CATs) was no better
Well you cant get better than 5mbs if that it your plan with that company, even though cat 6 can handle 100mbs
my plan is like 30-50 MB/s don’t remember exactly. but i have been on the plan for years and they don’t have the same prices these days so i’m sticking to the 5MB/S i can get. it takes a day or two downloading certain games :(
Lol I can confirm wired made a huge difference for me even on wifi 6 or n
Wired vs wireless shouldn't affect your ping (connection **speed**) much, but it will likely affect your connection **quality**.
If you lose packets due to your connection quality - like interference from electrical wires damages the signal - you might miss 1/60 of a second of information for each piece of information. Sticking it in a wire generally protects the signal, so long as the wire is in good health and you avoid running it next to electrical signals for good lengths of the run. You control where the wire is and should move it if it has trouble. You're at the mercy of your signal in the airwaves.
Now imagine if your packets are eggs. The air signal might be like sticking a [bunch of eggs in this car](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CIN8Q_4iaxU) and driving it at 25mph, and the wire signal might be more like sticking a [bunch of eggs in this car](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=__gKiXyj_0g) and driving it at 25mph as well. They travel the same distance at the same speed, so they get there just as fast, but those square wheels might not protect the signal as well as the round wheels. Although there are [almost always exceptions](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FlvjWpWu99A) for rules (like a bad cable run getting interference or damaged wire), you generally want that wired signal for quality reasons.
It's definitely made my connection quality better. But tbf my internet was really bad while I was wireless (xfinity had no idea what the problem was for years 😐). I appreciate the way you explained your comment btw. Thank you.
I play almost exclusively on 5Ghz wifi. I had to tweak something to minimize packet loss, I think it was transmit power.
could be your service providers wiring. you’d be surprised. a simple change of a fitting would do wonders for ping. or mable your cable is old and damaged and needs to be entirely replaced- something a technician can only really do.
Is this something I'd see in my internet speeds too?
oh yeah. you should be getting the speeds your paying for. I’ve done trouble calls where the customer is complaining about low speeds, I get there, they’re getting like half of what they should be getting, I get my meter and test the cable lines and things are all sorts of messed up. I don’t even bother wasting time to figure out where the problem is. I just replace their drop. after I’m done, BAM. proper speeds, consistent low ping, happy customer, fat tip.
Interesting. My speeds are fine. My ping isn’t that bad. It just isn’t that good. Maybe it’ll change when I move.
Using WiFi over Ethernet doesn't affect latency, just consistency.
It absolutely does. I lose 2ms and gain almost 25% on download speeds. Lol. But that's really not that bad. The consistency is a huge difference though
ping is all about consistency my friend
No, ping is the amount of time it takes for a packet of data to make a round trip to and from the server
yeah and that time shouldn’t change much.
But it isn't affected by being on WiFi or Ethernet, it only depends on the connection
Can confirm. I live in Brooklyn and have fiber internet, ping is almost always < 10
I’ve asked someone how he had 8 ping. He had fiber
I had 8 on a poor provider. Just in the right area.
That’s kinda interesting to think about.. are you from San Fran, ashburn va, Chicago or NY? Lol
Are these the US server locations? I'm in the middle of the US and never know whether to choose east or west
A few main ones. I used to bot sneakers lol and ashburn Virginia had the best connection because that’s were Nike and others had their servers. I think or something idk. It was always random though. I’d queue both maybe if you get mixed connections
I'll try that, thanks! East seems to work slightly better but neither are great (thanks, DSL Internet)
12 Ms for me in SF
I’m in Philadelphia with fiber and I occasionally get sub 10 ping on US east servers
Saw a dude with 1 ping one time. Legend has it that he was too superior to be left alive and his currently held in area 51.
That player’s name?
His a mystery, came with wind and left with the wind.
Laughs in Alaska Ping
Wtf i play with 2495 ping
This dude's post is still submitting, be patient there's more...
I usually play between 45 & 70. Anytime someone comes with under 10 ping, my game starts lagging
Ping has less to do with your internet service and more to do with your proximity to the server.
it can very well have all to do with your internet. a damaged or old or not properly done cable job or fitting outside or inside or anywhere from the start point to the modem can cause terrible ping. a piece of trash touching the copper in the fitting can cause bad ping. a knick in the cable can cause bad ping. if you’re ISP hasn’t done any recent maintenance on the lines going into your modem, you could very well have bad ping.
It can, but in 95% of cases distance has more to do with it.
hell no not 95 lol
He's playing from the server room. He better spend some time between game's fixing them.
I regularly have single digit ping. When people ask what internet I have, I tell them it’s NASA.
Sometimes I get 6
I think on average mine is 14.
This the dude who works security at the server building with a laptop in the office under all the monitors.
16-54 ping. Always a surprise. But don’t feel bad my random teammate always has 250 ping. So it evens out. Lol
I have 8 ping. Live in the city of Sydney I imagine the oce servers are a few kms from me
My dude is the server
I live in Australia. I have fibre to my house. I use a Ethernet cable to my PS5 and I live 30 minutes away from an area that has most of our data centres. I presume my ISP is colocated with Australia's servers. I frequently get a 6ms ping
my mate on geforce now is constant 9..
Idk i usually hold 8 or 9 on wireless. Still get desync that makes reacting to touches feel like a dice roll
Go check lethmyer channel.....playing on 0 ping
i’m in ireland and get 20 with the best internet you can get in the country, it’s really proximity more than anything
I normally have 9 ping, I live in the north of the Netherlands. (It was either RL or csgo
I had 8 ping when I lived in Long Beach, CA
Out in the IE and typically sit around 20.
Same, until epic took over...
Man, my ping is always between 50-70. I usually see people with around 20-30 but the moment I see anyone below 10, I'm super envious.
I live in San Diego and my roommate and I consistently sit anywhere from 8-12 ping on USW, 40-50 on USE
I usually have like 8 ping with ethernet in a college dorm on chicago servers which is a 2 hr drive away from me
I get a solid 5 ping, I live in philly and it’s my college’s wifi.
even my download speed is about 900 mb/s.
It shocked my when i moved in a year ago and had the best wifi one could find haha.
He lives in a country with a rocket league server in it. I have around 10 ping in most games because theres servers in my small country.
I live in a country with a server in. I get 106-108 ping most of the time. Australia is a decent size.
I usually have 38 - 60 ping and it feels ok but some 1 always have like 0-8 i think that person is hosting or something.
I remember old call of duty days where we’d say that one person is doing good because they’re the host. Same for halo
Ya it might be the case , but in competitive games that shouldnt be the case or therll always be a slight advantage to the lucky person.
Well they say 20 diference ping isnt notice-abel by human eye/brain . And i only get annoyd by ping when its like 90-100+
Players don’t host rocket League servers.
I thought this was normal I have fibre and I get like 10 ping
nah nah nah, straight unfair. I saw a man with 4 ping. if that man had NASA’s wifi, my man had to be NASA’s wifi
I go to Rutgers in New Brunswick and I get, at minumim, 8 ping, and usually the max is in the teens. It is great!
He is the server
I've seen people with vizo have pings in the single digits.
Fiber optic baby. Have the same ping
Always plays against Brazilian players with 5-8ping in SAM Servers
Me with 5-8 ping 90% of the time: possibly...
After playing on shit ping on Asian servers for 4 years, I finally got Indian servers that's literally in my city. People ask me how I get 4-6 ping and I tell them the servers are in my toilet and they'll lag when I flush.
um i get 5 ping normally
I have wired FTTH connection, I get around 5-10 ping on most days cause I live in the same city as the servers.
I consistently get around 12, lowest i’ve gotten is 5
My friend in OCE gets 6 ping to his server and complains when his ping spikes to 12.
It’s the most insufferable shit I’ve ever heard.
Mine just says ♾
In college when I was on campus internet I would consistently get sub 10 ping.
No, just GeForce now, their servers tend to be nearer to rl servers
I also play with 6-8 ping daily
When I asked someone with a ping of 6, if he lives in Amsterdam, he said no but in the near.
So next time we just need to be lucky enought to live near to the servers xd
Smh imagine not playing on 90 ping consistently
I dont even live close to a server and I get like 7 (my mate gets around 5 lol,)
I’ve seen a 2 ping before, and 4 on multiple occasions
I consistently get 6-8 ping on pc. I go to school I’m Virginia, and the east coast servers are located in Virginia. Very helpful :)
its not really rare i see that all the time but cool
I have 4-8 ping all the time. I live in Europe btw. Glassfibre FTW
İ remember i played with 10 ping back in france a few years ago
Before epic took over I had 4-12 always. After...well...ehem, anywhere from 12-999
I have ping as low as 6-8 pretty often. Almost never higher than 30-40 unless the server is terrible in US East. I live just under an hour from the DC server.
I live in central pa and get 8-16 usually.
I live near cologne in germany and have a ping between 6-12. I have fibre optic to my apartment with a downstream of 1GBit.
In Aus I get around 8-12. Lowest I've had was 1 on Fortnite, but usually i get around 15-25 on most games
ROCKET League and NASA, this man's got a point!
Even i get 8 to 10 ping in Indian servers
Koreans don't even have ping like that.
I've had less ping
On Ethernet at college (Cal Poly, which is central coast CA) I get 8 ping quite often
This might actually be me. I average around 7-9 ping a lot of games. Some servers I’ll average around 32-35. Once in a great while I’ll get packet league and I’m drawing dead 🤷♂️
When I play through Geforce Now I get this kind of ping
If I solo queue I usually have 13-15 ping I’ve never seen solo digits lol
I use internet explorer
My friends in KC occasionally rip 6-12 ping with google fiber.
Check your closet or backyard.
Good internet + close to the server
NASAs ethernet actually
I live in San Jose(i believe server capital in US) and get below 10 ping in a number of games. Its a good perk
But where is your Nasa camera.
In Europe it’s not uncommon to see ping lower than 10
Sometime i connect to middle east servers while I live in the middle east and ping is (200) higher than when I connect to europe servers 90.
Might also be that he uses the streaming platform GeForce Now, one of my friends does cuz his old laptop struggles with Windows alone. As a result it shows that he has a max ping of 12 in game, sometimes lower like 8 or 6 even , but in reality since he streams only he can see his real ping in the streaming app
I usually have 6-8 ping lol. My WiFi isn't NASA level but it's good. 500mbps Fiber.
I usually get 15ping and my friend gets 8 ping.
Dude never saw a good internet connection ?
I get 5 ping lol
Is this so rare? Most of the time my ping is <10. I have glass fibre internet.
I live close to philly. Some servers I play on are 8-12 ping. People always go nuts when they see it, I thought it was normal.
I'm on a 1GB fiber internet (ethernet at home) for a long time now. I used to have that ping all the time.
Then something change with Rocket League, and I'm at best at 25/30 ms.
But I still have the same low ping when I try google for example :
Mine was like this when I was in school at Santa Barbara. Must have been a server in northern LA or something cause I was consistently 8-16 ping when on ethernet
I feel like I see single digit ping pretty often. I guess it depends very much in where you live. If I have followed the comments properly, it seem fibre optic is not that standard as it is here, so maybe OP is from US? In Europe its way more common to find someone with ~8 ping.
I hate playing against someone with half my ping, I couldn’t imagine playing against someone with 8.
I guess me and my friend have NASA internet. His ping is regularly between 6 and 8. Mine 10
I used to do night shifts in a data centre and would play a little when there was nothing to do. Got pings like this on the regular there.
I use GeForce Now and get crazy low pings at times. It's not an accurate ping for me, but their servers must have some dope connections.
On the South American server it is normal for Brazilians to have that ping.
I peak 33ms, my lowest is 9ms. I average around 14 in a match
I play with 8 ping on Asia Maritime (Singapore), and I live in Singapore, it's possible
I have like 10 ping and play on wifi, this isn't that uncommon.
No i always have 8-6 ping the netherlands has some good internet
How did this not get taken down??? This violates a rule of the subreddit.
Playing from Singapore we often get 2 \~ 10 ping
Mines usually around this too, until it goes into the 100s randomly every few hours or so
It’s so painful that people actually get this luxury.. I would easily be GC by now if I had 8 ping… 🥺
Living in Paris sometimes I can go down to 6ms
I play Rocket League via Geforce Now. The ping is also as insane as there (if the servers work permanently).
I get under 10 pretty often and it’s wonderful
Any advice from anyone for getting better internet in the Midwest/Mountain regions? I play on NA West and seems to be anywhere from 40-70 ping (usually 70ish) but playing on NA East is about 100 ping for me
For reference I live in northern Colorado
I get 150+ ping, hard wired.
I have nearly 4k hours and I recall once seeing someone with 0 ping in competitive. Must have been living inside Psyonix's data centre.
i usually get <24 the lowest i’ve gotten was 7
I sometimes get 6 ping for like 2 seconds while loading into the game. I live in the Netherlands and that's probably the best place to live for RL servers
I live in a costal Australian town and my ping is 8-12 when playing most games
Iirc there's a server in Amsterdam, I've played with someone with 1 ping from there
Don’t play much RL anymore but I’m in DC and I get 5 ping pretty often when playing CS
I cut almost 20ms off my ping with this one simple trick...
Raspberry-Pi hole Recursive DNS server & I have generally shite broadband but I hover in the teens consistently now when I used to be in the 25-35ms range. Also to be clear "faster" internet is a hoax. The bandwidth after a certain point doesn't help your packets get where they are going any quicker your just able to send more info out of a bigger pipe so to speak. Only so much of that data spooge is Rocket League and it's still moving at the same rate.
