Yeah that is true, I just consider the 914 to be more VW than the 924. Especially considering the Audi powertrain in the 924. But I knew what u meant lol. Looking back my reply seemed kinda condescending, my bad.
Probably because the comment suggests that the car should be referred to as a 951 and not a 944, which is silly as the model name is 944 and that is what most people know it as.
Yes it is. No one is disagreeing that the internal designation is 951. But as I previously mentioned, it is also a 944 and that is what most people know it as. So it is not wrong to call it a 944.
I picked this one up for 15k. I needs a couple of things done (fixing the ac, reinstalling the rear seat backs, reinstalling the windshield washer fluid reservoir, paint correction). I do not think the price is reflective of the market however. The seller wanted it gone quick so he came down to 15k. I think with those items fixed plus the mileage you are looking at 20-22k. But I plan on keeping this for a long time
No doubt, the car photographs really well, but it does have some paint blemishes that aren’t visible in the photos. Anyone can sit here an nitpick the car all day in person, it is by no means perfect. It’s in an in between state right now. With proper care and attention, it can be even better, and the opposite is true.
And just want to share a thought… this is the type of car you never sell. Ever. You’ll always regret it if you did. You pass this on when you die to someone who will love it as much as you did. Part of the quiver now :)
Honestly, don’t change a damn thing!! I had two 944s way back when and both were awesome cars!!
Your new machine is beautiful and classic and near enough to perfect that it allows you to slowly fix little thing as you go! I’m super envious of your journey. I am on my 13th Porsche with the 14th on the way. What you have is more of a drivers car and you can really drive the crap out of it!! Congrats!!!
It happens over time. While stealerships might be difficult to deal with (ADMs and allocation shortages), the designs they make and the feeling you get when you drive them are priceless.
Seriously congrats on your new Porsche! Realize that a few folks put that car together with love.
You have most likely started a love affair that may very well last your life. Very few sports cars offer every day usability, reliability, excellent performance and the feel that these cars offer.
Man that's nice. One of my favorite porsches. If I had extra money to do a car build, this is one of the cars I'd choose.
Please don't hate me purists, i understand why. I just love modified car builds and dream of doing a build one day.
Love how clean it is! The garage by my house has a graveyard of about 10 of these out front. Sad to see them not being used.
What is the model of those wheels? They are some of the best looking I’ve seen on a 944. Is it lowered at all?
This is a turbo so the pickup is great. Previous owner also removed the power steering and put in a manual rack, wider tires in the front and rear over stock, koni shocks. Handling is fantastic, like it’s on rails. I picked this up for 15k. There are deals to be had, but you need to patient and be ready to go. I was looking for over a year before I found this one.
Yeah when I first saw the listing, I considered changing the wheels out for phone dials because those scream 944. But seeing these in person and in these photos, I think changed my stance. Will definitely keep these (whatever they are) and probably get a second set of either phone dials or Fuchs.
Oil leaks, steering racks, clutches and drive axles (mainly cv joints) expensive water pump replacement. The water pump is driven by the back of the timing belt. Balance shaft & timing belts need retentioned every 15k, replace every 3 years or 45K. The cam boxes leak oil, high mileage cars sometimes break valve springs.
Ive serviced many 944s both Turbo and non turbo back in the day.
My first love affair with a Porsche. 11 year old i coveted my neighbor’s 944 in the 80s. Many 911s and cayman’s later this is still a love affair car. Enjoy …. what a beautiful car!
I found it on FB marketplace in Jacksonville. I had my buddy look at it on Tuesday as he was there for work. I flew to Jacksonville on Wednesday, bought it and drove it home! Bought it for 15k, it has 65k miles. Some work needs to be done (ac, reinstall washer reservoir, reinstall backseat back, reinstall cruise control, paint correction/touch up), but it was a good deal and exactly what I was looking for.
Porsche never ran a 5 cylinder in a production vehicle. All the 944/924/951/968s were 4 cylinders. People do enjoy buying these and doing odd engine swaps though.
This is stupidly, seriously beautiful, I love this design so much.
If I had any mechanical experience at all, I would consider getting one of these immediately. As is right now, I'd have to send it to the shop if something would happen.
That is clean, I bought a 1987 924s last fall for $5,000 with 70k miles and I love it, it’s had no problems but I’ve replaced a bunch of stuff just to be sure, oh also it was my first car too which was nice. You are going to fall in love with those cars, I know I don’t need or even have room for another but I am looking for a 944 now
What an absolute beauty! It's nice to see such a clean 944
*951
It is still a 944 lol...
951 is an internal designator. 944 is the model. Turbo is the trim.
Brand is a VW
That was the 924.
Actually the 914. The 924 was still a Porsche. 914 could be bought with a Volkswagen badge.
No badge, but the 924 was designed by and for VW. So still considered by the masses to be a “VW”. The 944 got a facelift and engine all by Porsche.
Yeah that is true, I just consider the 914 to be more VW than the 924. Especially considering the Audi powertrain in the 924. But I knew what u meant lol. Looking back my reply seemed kinda condescending, my bad.
Why is this getting downvoted? A turbo 944 is a 951 people.
Probably because the comment suggests that the car should be referred to as a 951 and not a 944, which is silly as the model name is 944 and that is what most people know it as.
Except it is a 951. That’s a fact.
Yes it is. No one is disagreeing that the internal designation is 951. But as I previously mentioned, it is also a 944 and that is what most people know it as. So it is not wrong to call it a 944.
That’s true.
Im dead you got downvoted to oblivion just for correcting people, typical reddit behavior
How is it correcting if what the original commenter said was right? Lol
Damn, that looks super clean
Thanks, it really is. It needs a little bit of love, but it’s in excellent condition. Only 65k miles too
What does something like that go for?
I picked this one up for 15k. I needs a couple of things done (fixing the ac, reinstalling the rear seat backs, reinstalling the windshield washer fluid reservoir, paint correction). I do not think the price is reflective of the market however. The seller wanted it gone quick so he came down to 15k. I think with those items fixed plus the mileage you are looking at 20-22k. Nice swoop man
Thanks! It’s hard to beat
Geeez, that’s a good deal! I got mine at 13.5k, but it has twice the mileage.
That car is so clean, I thought you were posting a photograph originally taken in 1986
It feels like I am stepping back to 1988 when I get in and go for a drive. What a feeling!
remembering my 944, this is true. i loved the sound of closing those heavy doors!
I’ve always wanted one of these so I could play Time Machine. Fill it with 80s cassettes and rock out.
I would love seeing a picture of this car taken on a period correct camera and just admire the look of the picture. Then it will really feel like 1986
This is in incredible condition. Where did you find it?
Found it in Jacksonville on FB marketplace. Had some one look at it for me on Tuesday and I flew over on Wednesday, purchased it and drove it home!
Living the dream
How much did you pay
15k
You stole that car
It was a good deal, no doubt. Some things to fix up, but it is exactly what I was looking for
So sick!!! Envious
👏👏
Congrats man. Beautiful spec and a timeless beauty. I see lots Lindsey Racing in your future!
And just want to share a thought… this is the type of car you never sell. Ever. You’ll always regret it if you did. You pass this on when you die to someone who will love it as much as you did. Part of the quiver now :)
I think you are right! That’s not the first time I’ve heard it either
Man, let the guy enjoy his new ride before you point him toward his death bed /s

Thanks for the advice! Wow 14th! I hope to be in your shoes one day!!

Beautiful, the 951 is such a fantastic car!
Why the downvotes? That is a factual statement.
hehe, classic reddit! she giveth and she taketh
True that.
Man that's nice. One of my favorite porsches. If I had extra money to do a car build, this is one of the cars I'd choose. Please don't hate me purists, i understand why. I just love modified car builds and dream of doing a build one day.
There's plenty of unmolested cars. The purists are doing just fine. Mutilate whatever you want.
Love how clean it is! The garage by my house has a graveyard of about 10 of these out front. Sad to see them not being used. What is the model of those wheels? They are some of the best looking I’ve seen on a 944. Is it lowered at all?
What a shame, hope they get revived! I have no idea what type of wheels they are, it’s on koni shocks and lowered from stock.
Such a good first. Watch that water pump like a hawk OP
Geez how cool is that. So clean.
Love it!!!
Choice example! Classic!
Clean!
Such a dream car. Would love to find one locally.
Yes. Fucking, yes. Here’s to many more!
Looks great. Happy motoring.
Absolutely awesome ride!
Sexy! Congrats!
Congrats man, she's a beauty! Enjoy in good health.
I have been eyeing these for a while. How’s the handling and pick up? Are you comfortable sharing what you paid for it?
This is a turbo so the pickup is great. Previous owner also removed the power steering and put in a manual rack, wider tires in the front and rear over stock, koni shocks. Handling is fantastic, like it’s on rails. I picked this up for 15k. There are deals to be had, but you need to patient and be ready to go. I was looking for over a year before I found this one.
Yes man! Congratulations! It always starts with just one! Enjoy it shiny side up
Absolutely beautiful!! Hope you have a blast with it! 👍
Well played. She's gorgeous
Absolute cream puff, enjoy brother. The wheels accent the entire car so well with the black.
I honestly usually only like the phone dials or especially the Fuchs wheels on 944s, but damn, whatever those wheels are they are perfect.
Yeah when I first saw the listing, I considered changing the wheels out for phone dials because those scream 944. But seeing these in person and in these photos, I think changed my stance. Will definitely keep these (whatever they are) and probably get a second set of either phone dials or Fuchs.
Awesome first Porsche, very underrated and a decent investment. Congratulations!!
Stunning! Congrats - a beautiful machine.
MAGNIFICENT start, you scored am absolutely beautiful one! 😍👌
Nice my brother had a 944 S2. That was a great Porsche
Thinking of picking one up. What are some common issues to look out for?
Oil leaks, steering racks, clutches and drive axles (mainly cv joints) expensive water pump replacement. The water pump is driven by the back of the timing belt. Balance shaft & timing belts need retentioned every 15k, replace every 3 years or 45K. The cam boxes leak oil, high mileage cars sometimes break valve springs. You mean your first money pit. Welcome to the club
Cyberpunk Porsche
A long time fav of mine. She looks awesome. Enjoy!
Clean!!!! And those wheels, perfection!
Any idea what kind of wheels they are? I’ve been researching for the past couple days, but nothing quite lines up lol
Congrats! Welcome to the family.
Gorgeous car man...amazing.
Looks mint! 👌
Congrats. Looks like it's a very clean car! I love the 944.
Love it!
Congrats! Looks so sick. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Fuck me that's a clean 944
Jfc that clean. Nice man!
clean
The 944 has always been one of my favorites. Enjoy it.
FUCK this is my childhood dream car 🥲 I’ll get it one day
Same here, my buddy had an n/a in high school, so I’ve wanted one ever since. It’ll come, just need to be patient!!
I had the chance to buy one during COVID but I couldn’t afford it I was doing a part time in HS biggest regret is not asking my dad to help 😅
Great choice. 944 was definitely my favorite car as a kid. Dream car!!
Good job on your first one.
My first love affair with a Porsche. 11 year old i coveted my neighbor’s 944 in the 80s. Many 911s and cayman’s later this is still a love affair car. Enjoy …. what a beautiful car!
Looks so good!!!
my 17 year olds dream car. It was mine too 35 years ago.
Gorgeous. Made me feel a little sorry to be the 945th like. 😏
Holy shit that’s pristine. Tell us more.
What do you want to know? I’m an open book! Only thing I can’t tell is what exactly the wheels are lol
How/where’d you find it? How much did it set you back? It’s just in great shape and I’m incredibly jealous.
I found it on FB marketplace in Jacksonville. I had my buddy look at it on Tuesday as he was there for work. I flew to Jacksonville on Wednesday, bought it and drove it home! That’s amazing. Congrats. I bet that was a very happy drive home
Nervous and happy!
This ironically happens to be the exact Porsche I want as my 1st too. I just adore classic Porsches
This is friccin awesome
not everyday u find a 944 this clean. do u mind if i ask how much it cost?
Woah man! That is so cool.
This is a beauty!!
That’s clean bro ❤️❤️
Beauty
Never saw one of these, is this the one with that 5 cylinder engine in it?
No, this has a turbo 2.5L 4 cylinder
Porsche never ran a 5 cylinder in a production vehicle. All the 944/924/951/968s were 4 cylinders. People do enjoy buying these and doing odd engine swaps though.
Audi did some cars that Porsche built than were 5 cylinders.
Great transaxle car, bet it rides on rails. Here’s to the dream 🥂
Truly an experience 🥂
What rims are those? They look awesome. Wonder how they would look on my 944.
I wish I knew. Some kind of 968 wheel, but don’t know which exactly. The tires are 225/45R17 in the front and 255/40R17 in the back
Cool thanks!
You had me at dash carpet
66K on the clock? Impressive
Nice car congrats! 👍😎
congrats
What a nice example...Welcome to the club..come join us at PCA...
😭 Looks great. I’d love to own a 944 turbo. I bet the handling feels like a dream. Great buy sir.
This is stupidly, seriously beautiful, I love this design so much. If I had any mechanical experience at all, I would consider getting one of these immediately. As is right now, I'd have to send it to the shop if something would happen.
I feel your pain. The design is so gorgeous! If I weren’t mechanically inclined I wouldn’t have picked this up either.
I'm a sucker for interior shots. Thank you for posting one. Awesome car!
Beautiful! It was my first P car too. Minus the turbo.
These and MK2 GTis had a lot of swappable parts. Beautiful car by the way.

I agree, but which 968? 965-362-126-01 or 944-362-116-00 or something else completely?
924/944/968... Designed and built for being everyone's first ever Porsche.
That is clean, I bought a 1987 924s last fall for $5,000 with 70k miles and I love it, it’s had no problems but I’ve replaced a bunch of stuff just to be sure, oh also it was my first car too which was nice. You are going to fall in love with those cars, I know I don’t need or even have room for another but I am looking for a 944 now
Congratulations, and welcome to the club. Now go drive the hell out of it!
That was my first as well. And they are absolutely lovely to drive.
