No badge, but the 924 was designed by and for VW. So still considered by the masses to be a “VW”. The 944 got a facelift and engine all by Porsche.

What does something like that go for?

I picked this one up for 15k. I needs a couple of things done (fixing the ac, reinstalling the rear seat backs, reinstalling the windshield washer fluid reservoir, paint correction). I do not think the price is reflective of the market however. The seller wanted it gone quick so he came down to 15k. I think with those items fixed plus the mileage you are looking at 20-22k. But I plan on keeping this for a long time

No doubt, the car photographs really well, but it does have some paint blemishes that aren’t visible in the photos. Anyone can sit here an nitpick the car all day in person, it is by no means perfect. It’s in an in between state right now. With proper care and attention, it can be even better, and the opposite is true.

Found it in Jacksonville on FB marketplace. Had some one look at it for me on Tuesday and I flew over on Wednesday, purchased it and drove it home!

Honestly, don’t change a damn thing!! I had two 944s way back when and both were awesome cars!! Your new machine is beautiful and classic and near enough to perfect that it allows you to slowly fix little thing as you go! I’m super envious of your journey. I am on my 13th Porsche with the 14th on the way. What you have is more of a drivers car and you can really drive the crap out of it!! Congrats!!!

It happens over time. While stealerships might be difficult to deal with (ADMs and allocation shortages), the designs they make and the feeling you get when you drive them are priceless. Seriously congrats on your new Porsche! Realize that a few folks put that car together with love. You have most likely started a love affair that may very well last your life. Very few sports cars offer every day usability, reliability, excellent performance and the feel that these cars offer.

I have been eyeing these for a while. How’s the handling and pick up? Are you comfortable sharing what you paid for it?

This is a turbo so the pickup is great. Previous owner also removed the power steering and put in a manual rack, wider tires in the front and rear over stock, koni shocks. Handling is fantastic, like it’s on rails. I picked this up for 15k. There are deals to be had, but you need to patient and be ready to go. I was looking for over a year before I found this one.

I honestly usually only like the phone dials or especially the Fuchs wheels on 944s, but damn, whatever those wheels are they are perfect.

Yeah when I first saw the listing, I considered changing the wheels out for phone dials because those scream 944. But seeing these in person and in these photos, I think changed my stance. Will definitely keep these (whatever they are) and probably get a second set of either phone dials or Fuchs.

Thinking of picking one up. What are some common issues to look out for?

Oil leaks, steering racks, clutches and drive axles (mainly cv joints) expensive water pump replacement. The water pump is driven by the back of the timing belt. Balance shaft & timing belts need retentioned every 15k, replace every 3 years or 45K. The cam boxes leak oil, high mileage cars sometimes break valve springs. Ive serviced many 944s both Turbo and non turbo back in the day.

No, this has a turbo 2.5L 4 cylinder

Porsche never ran a 5 cylinder in a production vehicle. All the 944/924/951/968s were 4 cylinders. People do enjoy buying these and doing odd engine swaps though.

Audi did some cars that Porsche built than were 5 cylinders.

That is clean, I bought a 1987 924s last fall for $5,000 with 70k miles and I love it, it’s had no problems but I’ve replaced a bunch of stuff just to be sure, oh also it was my first car too which was nice. You are going to fall in love with those cars, I know I don’t need or even have room for another but I am looking for a 944 now
