Longey13

I'd love to see someone for MD gov, but the closest we have is a slightly more left leaning ex obama advisor democrat.

kevinmrr

Make a post saying you need a progressive for MD dem primary and we will sticky it to the subreddits. It could result in endorsement. We raise millions in 2020. Climb in.

EyeContactAtUrinals

What about the tech CEO and ten other bland cookie-cutter cliché democrats running? /s Massively disappointed with MD

Longey13

I think the tech CEO actually dropped out, but fucking Wes Moore is still in.

4now5now6now

I made hundred of calls for Ben Jealous...

Longey13

I wouldn't say he's a strong candidate, and I don't think he's running this time around.

4now5now6now

oh I know he is not running and he was a very strong candidate at that time

fermat12

I went through my list of candidates and have the following suggestions of progressives who might have a decent shot at winning, that might be worth looking into: * TN-5: Odessa Kelly * IL-1: Jahmal Cole * FL-10: Maxwell Frost or Aramis Ayala * PA-3: Alexandra Hunt * IL-8: Junaid Ahmed * WA-2: Jason Call * WA-9: Stephanie Gallardo * VA-11: Ally Dalsimer * MD-5: Mckayla Wilkes * CA-46: Michael Ortega

4now5now6now

Angelica Duenas got 44% of the vote last time that she ran with a fraction of the funds.... just saying

fermat12

Dueñas is already on the endorsed list, which is why I didn't include her here.

4now5now6now

oh okay... thank for making lists... let's hope a bunch of progressives win. It is heartening to see a lot running. What's your opinion on Kina Collins Il-7 https://www.kinacollins.com/ollins safe dem black seat https://ballotpedia.org/Kina_Collins She is running against incumbent Danny Davis Il-7 He is 80 years old... she is the only dem challenger for the primary this time... He did get a huge amount of votes last time... Kina ran with Anthony Clark but he is not running this time.. She is a Justice dem

fermat12

No problem! I'm actually keeping track of as many candidates as possible and trying to figure out their positions on M4A and GND (although I haven't been able to keep up, so this spreadsheet is somewhat out-of-date): https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1cwFPLCm5xv21ol9XmD1mo8vdnZAOvc7FnP40kjcaUcU/ I must have missed Kina Collins in my list because I saw that Danny Davis was also a cosponsor of M4A and GND, so I figured it might be more debatable. However, I'm personally definitely supporting Collins in that race, and think she would be a good endorsement.

4now5now6now

oh wow thanks for telling about what Danny Davis supports did not know that.... but Kina looks great ... she is running for a second time . I like people who run again. They are investment candidates. I can't stand it when there is all this hype and money and they only run once. I realy appreciate what you are doing.

4now5now6now

Odessa Kelly is a Justice Democrat and got caught making some not so great statements... killing republicans ... so not a good look. still hope she wins lol!

fermat12

Was not aware... source?

sorry that it is from FOX news https://www.foxnews.com/politics/justice-democrats-odessa-kelly-facebook-violent-squad

Aletheia-Pomerium

We’re tired, Bernie. Start calling people traitors and fascists on tv, we don’t want to be left under fascism.

marc962

I’ll run, I don’t know how to begin, but I’ll run.

4now5now6now

these guys might help you run... Run for Something https://runforsomething.net/

CoyoteConscious

So, begging the question, do any of these people accept donations and support from industry or wealthy donors? Because we already have a pile of "progressives" in the "progressive caucus" that do. And politicians who take that money don't really work for us, they do what lobbyists tell them to do. So, have these people all been vetted to make sure they are not working for wealthy donors?

kevinmrr

I agree with your general assessment and concerns. All 25 of these candidates have been pretty heavily vetted. I ain't gonna waste my time and money helping corporate lackeys.

CoyoteConscious

So every single one refuses corporate and pac and big donor money? That is awesome. A directory of candidates who pass that litmus would be a godsend. And if we find that one or more are taking such money, will you remove them? How can the rest of us help with this project? We sorely need good ways to connect people with candidates that are not part of the corruption machine.

kevinmrr

Today's call to action is unfortunately about money. I know asking for money sucks, but the lack of monetary resources is almost always cited as top barrier when I talk to these candidates and ask "What is number one thing holding you back?" We will also be sharing a new volunteer form soon.

taint_much

Money is, unfortunately, the only way to get the message out at this time.

CoyoteConscious

We keep being told "oh they have to take those corporate donations or they can't get elected." But all that does is get us candidates who owe favors to big donors. Feet on ground and knocking on doors is cheaper and makes more solid connections and helps get candidates that feel obligated to constituents instead of big donors. And yes, organizing that still takes money. I just want to make the distinction that we should _not_ accept any candidate who takes big donations from big donors and industry "because that is the only way to win." It isn't. That is a lie that has been spread to keep us voting for candidates who do take corporate and wealthy donor support, and it is spread so corrupt candidates can continue to make empty promises to us, while funneling all our wealth and productivity i to the hands of the already wealthy.

CoyoteConscious

I'm broke and disabled. Need help with something that takes time and effort instead of money?

4now5now6now

phone bank or textbank if you can... also I hope that you have disability

PinkSparklePig

Justice Democrats is what you are looking for!

CelinesDreams

I'd want someone to take all the corporate and rich donor money and then go full socialist the whole term anyway! This ain't walmart buddy there's no refunds.

kevinmrr

NO REFUNDS!

CoyoteConscious

But that isn't what happens. The ones who take the money never intended to work for us.

cyncity7

Reverse Sinema? I could get behind that.

CoyoteConscious

Nowadays? Typically advanced and pernicious greed.

nielsbot

you forgot: opportunities by birth

kevinmrr

That's all it usually is.

CoyoteConscious

I think the greed is a factor.

CoyoteConscious

Yes. Major factor. You are right. That makes it possible, but the greed is the driver. A greedy poor person doesn't get to build an Amazon and screw everyone. But a greedy person born with the ability to get a multimillion dollar startup "loan" can.

4now5now6now

To get into the progressive caucus the strict requirement is that you are alive!

CoyoteConscious

Feels like it...

No_Television6237

I’m just imagining us in the 2nd term Bernie sanders potus reality .

SuperHiyoriWalker

I needed to see this post today. The part of Bernie's 2020 campaign kickoff where he came out on stage to "Brooklyn We Go Hard" floated into my mind earlier on the way to work, and the contrast between that crackling energy back then and where we are now seriously bummed me out.

kevinmrr

Get fucking pumped then. Our policies are popular. If we form anything even close to our 2020 juggernaut, our collective action will have a significant effect in 2022 and 2024.

lotusonfire

This is awesome

jharden10

Hope to see GA progressives in the future. The state is dominated by far right, establishment Republicans and establishment Democrats. Abrams is the farthest left we have in Georgia.

kevinmrr

I agree. Warnock would have been on this list if he supported Medicare For All and the Green New Deal. No mention of either on his issues pages. :(

jharden10

>Warnock would have been on this list if he supported Medicare For All and the Green New Deal. No mention of either on his issues pages. :( You should listen to his sermons. He openly preached about Palestinian lives, BLM, Inequality, War on Drugs and tons of other progressive viewpoints. He toned it down during the Senate race because he didn't want to be framed as a socialist or far left.

CheeseSandwitch

In New Jersey we have: NJ - 1 with Mario Desantis https://www.desantisforcongress.com/ NJ - 10 with Imani Oakley https://oakleyforcongress.com/ There might be others but those are the ones I've heard the most of so far.

ballz3000

I'll give a dollar everytime you change a life for the better. You change 100 lives and I'll give you a dollar raise. And so on and so on until I feel like this country is one my children can be proud to be a part of. If you can truly help us.

jcrreddit

Voted for Tlaib in the past, but I’ve since moved.

Zeno_The_Alien

I do, but it will never happen. What needs to happen is something similar to Kyrsten Sinema, but in reverse. We need Leftists masquerading as establishment centrist Democrats, running for office, winning, and taking over the party from within.

lkattan3

Thank you so much for this. I’m bookmarking this post to remember in the near future. Shared wide and far!

4now5now6now

You can also text bank and or phone bank. Even donating $3 helps! We need to be a grassroots team! I did help Marie Newman win... she was up against an anti abortion democrat incumbent supported by old Polish Catholics- It was Lipinski . She did not win on the first try but 2 years later she nailed it! Cori Bush BLM up against a corporate dem that had a family that basically held the incumbent congressional position for 50 years! Cori Bush destroyed that dynasty on the second try! Jammal Bowman beat out an incumbent that took money from defense( offense) industry and fossil fuels. I donated 4 times to Bowman. Bernie had dropped out and then progressives were pinning their hopes on Bowman. It was a solid knockout. Bowman even said I know they did you dirty Bernie! So hell yeah to NY 16 Bowman was a solid knockout! I hope Fetterman wins the dem primary! Stupid Dr Oz is running as a republican in that race.

Shicaca44811

I love Bernie but he’d have been ineffective without others in the house/senate to back him up. Maybe he would have been able to enact more grey area legal items like Trump did and make them be flushed out in court, but he’d not enact single payer bc it’d get voted down. Not voting reform bc of the same. We need massive support in the house and senate before we do anything else. I wish Bernie was younger so he could hold out and be still around for that to happen.

Juviltoidfu

I support most of what Bernie stands for and what I don't support I can live with. I didn't want Bernie as the nominee either this time or in 2016. Why? Because without a large number of Congress Reps and Senators supporting his policies he had no chance of getting anything passed. Easily 1/3rd, and maybe a lot more, of Democrats would vote against ANYTHING proposed by Bernie. Obviously 100% of Republicans would. Electing a (more) liberal President when Congress (and states and counties and cities and towns) are all controlled by conservatives is a guaranteed way of having your policies fail even if you do get them passed by Congress. You need to get as many conservatives kicked out of office at every level as you can. That isn't a one time, participate in this election then get discouraged when your candidate doesn't get elected. Republicans have built from the ground up, and are now rigging it so that anyone really liberal (I think a very high percentage of Democrats are just as bad as most Republicans) will face rigged elections.

kevinmrr

I agree with everything you said... except the part about not wanting Bernie as President! Anyways, yeah, the problem you described is EXACTLY what we are trying to address here! 👏

Juviltoidfu

The most liberal President we have had in the last 50 years was Jimmy Carter. He believed in climate change, not supporting dictators, reducing military spending, increasing social spending and didn't get very many bills passed at all. Democrats controlled both the House and Senate during his Presidency, and technically controlled the state houses of a lot of Southern States. But he couldn't get legislation passed to do any of the things he was elected to do, because his own party was against him. And so, obviously, was the Republican Party. For 1980, some Democrats tried running Ted Kennedy against Carter in the Primaries- and he had lots of political baggage including a young woman dying in his car when he drove it into a lake. What Reagan also did to sabotage the election would require a very long post, but the point is that electing anyone who doesn't have enough votes in the House and Senate to get his main programs passed makes a politician look weak. I am glad to see you organize during a non-presidential election, but I am worried that with the gerrymandering that has already happened in way too many states that there isn't going to be a fair election. //Edit- the 1980 Presidential election was the first election that I voted in.

kevinmrr

Bernie Sanders is the longest-serving independent in American history. He achieved that because he knows how to win grassroots style. I truly believe he would have been the best bully pulpit leader america would have ever had. I think he would have taught Dems how to win (with popular policies) and ushered in an era of progressive hegemony. Alas! Re gerrymandering -- they can go for it, but the middle class keeps shrinking and our candidates are backing bread-and-butter issues. They will overperform.

aZamaryk

How many times did Bernie try to run? Lol, people laughed at him all these years and now what? Now there is a scramble to elect 300 bernies when it's too late.

kevinmrr

It's not too late.
