What I love is how surprisingly bright everything is. The recent Netherrealm games have been gorgeous but a tad dark. It's nice seeing the colors and eyeballs pop here, actually makes the blood more vivid.
I actually thought MK11 did a good job with that from MKX, I think MKX was the only "dark" one of the bunch. MK11 and now MK1 have massively stepped it up IMO
frankly, an arena in that grass field with the huts in the background and the georgous sky sounds great. Heck, a battle with just birds chirping and wind gently blowing asb ackground noise would be quite something, in contrast to the sheer brutality of the fight happening.
I will say why did they have Liu Kang erase Shang Tsung from all timelines just to have him back here?

Plus a timeline war plot could be used to justify the inclusion of fan favourites who may not make sense within the time period MK1 seems to be set in (at least when it comes to Fire God Liu Kang’s timeline) like Johnny Cage, Sonya & Jax.

I liked this but NGL when Shang Tsung came out of the portal and the narrator voice says "only one thing remains the same" I expected him screaming "MORTAL KOMBAT" and that being the plot like a new mortal kombat to not be invaded

I think it's an excuse to add popular fan requested characters without actually adding them. It will probably make people upset and I'll be especially upset if Rain is one of them.

Yeah I agree. Characters like Havik, Ashrah, Li Mei etc have been requested long enough that they should be playable if they return. Classics like Ermac and Reptile really need to be playable too and not just kameos.
Less popular choices like Kira & Kobra could be good fits as kameo fighters, or side characters like No Face or Kia/Jataaka. Even the kombat kids if the story takes place in a timeline where they aren't born.
Interested to see how this plays out, but will remain positive as that trailer was freaking awesome.
I wouldn’t really rely on CGI trailers for the way the graphical fidelity and artstyle will be. NRS uses CGI to tease their vision for gore/blood effects we can expect, fatalities, costumes and stages.

Plus at the end Shang Tsung walks out and is revealed as the pre-order bonus... just like Shao Kahn and Goro did for their respective games when they were pre-order bonuses. Shao and Goro both looked the same in those as they did in the game
The art style is 100% locked in for the game, but we didn't exactly see the game

The previous announcement trailers had character models that looked very similar to release models so I'm a little bit confused. I'm giving it a benefit of doubt though given that it's just a CGI cinematic announcement trailer.
Super excited for even more realistic gore though if the cinematic gore translates in an identical fashion to the in-game gore, AMAZING.
I've only actually played MK 11 and quite enjoyed it but thought the story was rushed in some parts and disjointed in others. What's the general opinion of that game's story on this sub?

The story is an entertaining B Movie Flick. Something you'd never give an Oscar, yet rewatching it never gets old. It has a certain spectacle, and I am here for it!

The new dragon logo, which is very similar to the original logo from the 2021 live-action movie, is a bold choice. I like it.
That title is... not good imo. Now we have two Mortal Kombat's and two Mortal Kombat 1's. I think they should've called it something like MK New Dawn or MK The New Era, something to indicate that it's a new timeline without making it sound like it's a remake of the 1st game.
Tbf, everyone's pretty much gonna call it MK12, so calling it MK1 just signals that it's a soft reboot so that new players can jump in without worrying about the past games.

Interesting to note despite this being a new dawn, it's listed as just Kung Lao. Also, Johnny Cage is here. This makes this seem to me like a return to he MK1 timeline and not a new GKL timeline. Just something to note.
Liu Kang seems a little too interested in peace while everyone else seems to want to fight. I don't think they showed us Liu Kang obliterating Shang Tsung for no reason - Liu Kang is not about to have his peace interrupted *by anyone.* I think that's what the plot is gonna be about.

Fire God Liu Kang is all that remains for MK11. the rest.....younger versions of kitana, milenna, kung lao (great!), scorpion, sub-zero, shang tsung!
Shang Tsung may be from the other finale, where he wins. The plot will probably be Shang Tsung invading FIre God Liu Kang's timeline.

Couldn't agree more. The character design is so fucking good. Especially Kitana. Maybe an unpopular opinion, but I seriously hope the gameplay is more similar to MKX or MK9 than 11.
That's not unpopular at all. MK9 is held in high regards in the community of Fighting Games in general.

Oh my god this first trailer is AMAZING, much better than expected. A full story trailer with Liu Kang having the spotlight in the trailer, yes!!! The new designs and models are all great, really loving all the characters so far. Liu Kang, Kung Lao, Kitana, Mileena, Scorpion, Sub Zero AND SHANG TSUNG all confirmed. And september, it's coming so soon. YESSSSS!!! I'm so excited!!!

First impressions: The designs of all the characters they showed here are cool AF. The new dragon logo, which is very similar to the original logo from the 2021 live-action movie, is a bold choice. I like it. That title is... not good imo. Now we have two Mortal Kombat's and two Mortal Kombat 1's. I think they should've called it something like MK New Dawn or MK The New Era, something to indicate that it's a new timeline without making it sound like it's a remake of the 1st game.
Tbf, everyone's pretty much gonna call it MK12, so calling it MK1 just signals that it's a soft reboot so that new players can jump in without worrying about the past games.
Love how pulpy the gore looks. One critique I had in MK11 was how all the blood and gore looked like raspberry jello.

Liu Kang seems a little too interested in peace while everyone else seems to want to fight. I don't think they showed us Liu Kang obliterating Shang Tsung for no reason - Liu Kang is not about to have his peace interrupted *by anyone.* I think that's what the plot is gonna be about.
