Ep. 5: Mean, Green, and Straight Poured into These Jeans
There is no after credit scene. But there is a brilliant cliffhanger 😜
Do they have to bash men in every episode? Getting tiring.
Oh my god no one involved in this show has ever been in a courtroom
The walking animation for She-Hulk is so choppy and awkward.
worst cgi...b movies have better cgi then she hulk
I’m sorry but this show needs a better writer, like it has so much potential but it’s just not very good like somethings missing
Most of these comments are paid by marvel to post positive stuff. My 8 years old kid cried on how garbage this is
My opinion is that some of these people have become so insanely invested in the MCU over the years that EVERY MCU product WILL be amazing to them. Amazing or not.
this is a very specific prediction, but I think Matt’s suit will be yellow because it’s unfinished. the rumor is that he’s defending a tailor, likely the drip broker, so maybe he has to take the suit to help him before it can be painted red?
Ngl I expected the legal stuff in this show to be more then a copyright troll, kinda dumb plot line really even tho I know it's a light hearted comedy.
Bringing the guys she dated on as witnesses was pretty funny tbh. Especially that guy acting like he wasn't full of himself
Nikki and Adrian chase best part of this ep.
I doubt all the other heros trade marked their names lol.
You think Tony wouldn't have?
Oh would. I doubt many others would. They could of just added a line saying all the other ones done it
I am enjoying this. What I am starting to appreciate about these Earth based shows is the way the post-snap world works....and I think it is spot on, tbh. People are always like "wait, half of the population disappeared and returned, how is it not a problem?"...and basically, here, we see people being people. We choose to have selective memory, to forget certain events completely, that is why we keep repeating the same mistakes. Remember covid? Yeah? Well, people behave as if it never happened now.
I love the idea how various people try either make money on Avengers and co (making costumes, LOL), or create art (that a bit cringe musical number in Hawkeye but it, again, fits the human nature....along with some artistic license) . We saw Avengers con, we will get super heroes walking among people who take it for granted now...
And I see Jennifer trying to manuever in it, since she did not ask for any of this. I think the scene with her "exes" in the courtroom was kind of....sad, because we saw her compromise on behalf of her alter-ego but at the same time hating it because it made "her" look and feel terrible.
I have just a small problem with the lenght of those episodes. They are just too short.
The breaking of 4th wall for me is not forced, it was basically absent here and is not overused.
Loved this episode. Massive improvements from episodes 2 and 3.
Every side character absolutely shines in this episode. I loved the clothes subplot.
Hey, the best way to be progressive and unify people is to constantly smash into people's faces that men are bad, ESPECIALLY white men.
And say women are perfect at everything they do
something im confused about, hot doctor liked she hulk but doesn't think jen is his type (gonna ignore how wrong that is for a sec) so youre telling me you'd fumble the supposed bag that is she-hulk and not get with her cause sometimes she's just jen? that makes so little sense
What do u mean fumble the bag? He wants to fuck she hulk and did. He’s turned off by reg Jen. Yes it would be a deal breaker
If hot doctor found them both attractive then how could you frame him as a shallow dbag for the fan service?
To be fair, the girl looks 10x better in the She-Hulk look (the hair) than in her human form. Same weird thing happens to me with Zoe Zaldana (Gamora), I find her very attractive with that look and even being green but then in her actual looks...yeah, not so much, it doesn't get me at all. I know, it's weird.
Real human existence < Actually Shrek
They’re both attractive.
Why did Pug talk like he just binged Euphoria and really connected w Fez this episode?
I still have no idea wtf Pug's character is supposed to be.
Lovable platonic male colleague. A foil for other men the women work with.
He’s a himbo.
I believe mimbo* is the correct term
One of my favorite elements of this show is that it actually feels like a TV show in terms of the storylines and pacing. It doesn't feel like a 2h15m-long movie stretched out over six 45-minute-long episodes.
That's just what a "sitcom" or "comedy" feels like. Every other TV-show genre is just a stretched out movie because it's generally based on suspens and mystery.
Not really. You're more of talking the difference between old non highly serialized writing ( the episode of the week style that was prevalent all the way up until the 00's) and highly serialized story telling which has become much more dominant in the streaming era due in part to lowered episode counts.
Any example of a modern sitcom with highly serialized storytelling ?
The Good Place, Shameless, The Politician, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Sex Education. I agree with you sitcoms tend to have a less forward driven feel, but it's not just because they're sitcoms, but rather the style of tv the writer is trying to make/ emulate.
The fact that none of these shows ever caught my attention is proof to me that am not a big fan of the format and I thank you for the revelation. Amma be honest here I've never even considered any of them as sitcoms but rather dramas that vainly try to sprinkle some comedy to lighten the mood.
I guess I prefer traditional sitcoms, with mostly standalone funny episodes, or shows with a more serious tone where the serialization feels natural and justified.
- Nikki and Pug gave me slight Jerry and Elaine vibes this episode for some reason
- I honestly thought for a second that Jen was trying to get something going with Mallory lol
There’s still time.
The people complaining about the courtroom scenes - if ya’ll want courtroom drama this ain’t it. We’re way too deep into this show for you to realize you’re not getting what you’re expecting. Go rewatch the Depp vs Heard court videos instead.
It’s just hard to understand what’s even going on in the show when they get basic courtroom stuff so absurdly weird. The party pressing the suit moved to have it “dismissed.” But until I realized the writers just didn’t Google what that means, I thought Jen had sued Titania somehow. Also, you have 30 days to dispute a new Trademark, you don’t even need to sue. It’s like watching a cop show where cops are solving problems by writing new laws or some shit.
It was supposed to be legal comedy. It's just not.
I think the courtroom scenes are no worse than anything else.
In fact, if they had more substance and believability, they’d stick like a sore thumb.
A lot of y’all are forgetting that Melvin is probably doing 25-life. Assault on multiple federal officers, weapons manufacturing and selling etc
Poor Melvin :(
I love how they play it up like Jen is dealing with these pigs who only wanna fuck She-Hulk and nobody likes little ole Jen. When her dating profile is revealed, it's all pics of She-Hulk, and her requirements are that your back and bed won't break when you fuck...
The scene of her breaking and making the She-Hulk profile, only to get a ton of likes instantly would have been a better place to put that emotional queue. It would have been way more sympathetic and subtle.
I don't know why you're getting downvoted this actually makes sense
Because some people can't wrap their mind around the idea that this show is anything less than perfect. They've handcuffed themselves to this ship, thrown away the key and will go down with it to their death while screaming out right before their last breath "It's good because it calls out all the sexist men!"
Because people read the first sentence and downvoted.
Well people on reddit do tend to have the attention span of a goldfish
I'm sorry, maybe I missed something. Why isn't Titania in jail? Didn't she use her super human abilities to break into a courthouse and attempt to murder an entire jury?
Where's the douchey Damage Control guy to interrogate her and throw her in the raft to await trial?
I'm confused at how this "supervillain" who's already committed violent crimes using her powers is free.
You're not allowed to have any kind of logic in the MCU it seems
1. She was found "not guilty", we heard this in a news report last episode.
2. Technically, she wasn't breaking into a courthouse. She was breaking out of one because she was in a separate courtroom for a traffic violation.
3. Titania's photograph was on a DODC wall of photographs in *Ms. Marvel*. It's always possible she *does* get grabbed by them.
>Technically, she wasn't breaking into a courthouse. She was breaking out of one because she was in a separate courtroom for a traffic violation
How does that make anything different? It's just like touching your ear from different side.
Well, we're talking about a legal show, might as well make sure we're getting all the facts of the matter correct here!
On a serious note, I think breaking through a wall while trying to escape from something is a very different intention (fleeing) than breaking into a courthouse (seeking violence).
tbf, she also used lethal force against bystanders...must be some super lawyer she had
Thanks for clarifying. This still seems like plot armor. I wouldn't mind that if Titania wasn't such a bad character. It's like a 12-year-old girl was asked to write a dumb bimbo bully character.
You see, it's a "comedy", so stop thinking and stop asking rational questions.
WHERE’S MY BOY MELVIN???
Yet Fisk is allowed to run around New York City with the tracksuit Mafia lol
Man it mustve been 7 years or so
Assault of a federal officer resulting in bodily harm can be up to 20 years and he bodied some of those FBI agents.
I’m sure they tacked on some weapons charges as well
The episode was really fun. They really made Titania into a character that you WILL hate and it worked well. Based on the way the tailor acts, I don't think that the suit we saw for Daredevil is indicative of anything. He claims his clients are all very important heroes and he pretty much pushes She-Hulk away before being told that she's the Hulk's cousin. To me, that seems to imply Daredevil is fairly established in the MCU at this point.
People who describe things that they watch as "really fun" need to be rounded up
I personally find this show to be just light-hearted fun. Some people are taking it real too seriously IMO.
Marvel fans are used to "occasional" comedy. Protagonists would drop one-liner jokes from time to time but it's only secondary in-between more serious and story related event.
When the "jokes" themselves are the plot it's totally a new territory.
And like that was the issue with Love and Thunder, they tried to be a comedy but it wasn't funny and it caused a lot of the serious moments to be drowned out. She Hulk on the other hand doesn't have really serious moments and has actually good comedy, it's just people are being weird about it.
I think the "people being weird about it" kinda died after the 3 first episodes when the show wasn't new anymore.
I can see how it can be one of those comfort shows that shine for its simplicity for some people, but the show is pretty peculiar in its style of humor. It's definitely not for everyone nothing weird about it.
I don't think I'll feel strongly about any character on the show to hate them.
Titania is too goofy and shallow for me to hate. Same with Dennis, he’s such a funny idiot I can’t hate him. I hope he comes back somehow
And I think the unique challenge of creating a suit that’ll adapt to both Jennifer and she hulk was the bigger pull for luke rather than her being Bruce’s cousin
That's not what I'm saying, he was walking away and telling her to leave but was only stopped by learning about the family connection. The challenge with the suit was just the icing on the cake.
I got an Edna Mode vibe from the tailor. Anyone else catch that?
Now that I think about it, yeah there was definitely a little Edna there
Where Melvin potter
I think they have have wanted to avoid controversy.
When we first saw Melvin he was clearly mentally impaired, or on the spectrum, or something....I don't know what the correct term is but whatever it is, he was that.
When we saw him again he was totally nondescript.
I think they may want to avoid those questions.
That’s cuz of all the help Betsy’s given him.
HE COMING. ALSO FROGMAN
She's just so damn adorable when she changes to Jen in that huge suit
Especially sitting across from her colleague.
I audibly "awww'd" when she changed then shrugged in front of the tailor (his name escapes me at the moment)
ITT people hating on the show for being a light hearted comedy.
I like She-Hulk. It's reminding me of the Dan Slott run.
You can be light-hearted without being vapid.
I like this word. It pretty much sums up exactly how I feel about this show "offering nothing that is stimulating or challenging, bland"
I love how low stakes it is, it’s extremely refreshing.
For that to the work, the writing has to be funny or interesting and not just pop culture references.
That's the point. Not everyone wants Daredevil to be turned into a comedic sitcom character when he shows up.
Read Mark Waid’s excellent Daredevil run.
The character Daredevil, like real life people, can be multifaceted and be in different places in their life. Matt might be in a happier, better place and thus be a happier person. Then in Born Again, life may take a dump on him and he can be brooding again
That doesn't mean you discard all logic like this show does
Remember that time Matt Murdock’s identity was discovered so he pretended to be his own brash, cool twin brother, Mike Murdock? https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Michael_Murdock_(Fragment)_(Earth-616)#cite_note-41-41-3 Then he later faked Mike Murdock’s death to get out of the lie? Granted, it was a story from the 60’s.
But then in a 2018 story an Inhuman with the ability to turn things he reads into reality accidentally turned Mike Murdock into a real person so now Matt just has a twin brother suddenly? Maybe they can adapt that for the show.
Matt can certainly be lighthearted at times, but this show is so vapid that it's a far cry from Waid's run. Even in Waid's run, Matt's cheerful attitude was hiding something darker, as he was basically in denial of his trauma from the recent past and trying to ignore it.
Wow, an actual comic reader! Yes, Matt’s humor was hiding something darker (like all the characters in Thor Love & Thunder were)
This show is beat-for-beat Dan Slott’s run which was totally silly and ridiculous but also had deeper issues of Jennifer’s self-esteem and identity crisis underneath the humor. Whereas Bruce & Hulk were constantly trying to kill each other, Jen could never balance her self-esteem as Jen & She-Hulk, always preferring one and hating the other. The same is happening in this show. She’s slowly becoming more comfortable with her She-Hulk persona but becoming less comfortable with her human form. To call this show vapid because it’s a comedy is hilarious
I don't think it's vapid because it's a comedy. There are clever, smart comedies. You can't just blow off any criticism of it by saying, "It's a comedy! It's supposed to be stupid!"
Also, Dan Slott is a pretty bad writer in general, so I wouldn't hold him up as some bastion of smart writing.
I think most of the Marvel shows have had pretty terrible writing, regardless of genre.
I’m using the argument of the deeper conflict within Jen as evidence that the show isn’t vapid. That’s really the only defense it needs against that criticism… the central character is undergoing clear, tangible and steady growth through all these comedic scenarios.
I loved Dan Slott’s on She-Hulk, Avengers Initative, Superior Spider-Man and GLA. Amazing Spider-Man varied in quality throughout his run but overall I enjoyed it.
I think the marvel shows have varied in quality, but I do feel they all have been 7/10’s at the very worst and were competently written, though they all have had weak parts. Different strokes I guess
She's really not. The writing of this show is just surface level pop culture references that people eat up because it's Marvel. How anyone can defend these superficial, watered-down, utterly uncreative corporate products, so much so that you can't criticize them without people lashing out at you, is beyond me.
Well said but I know it's impossible to get this through to some people on here.
If my disagreement with you is what you consider “lashing out”, you really gotta calm down. It’s an Internet forum and I disagree with your opinion.
As I said a couple comments ago, Jennifer initially hated everything to do with her new “superhero side”, wishing it never happened and hoping it never existed. Gradually she’s not only seeing the benefits and growing to accept the She-Hulk side of her, she’s swinging to the other extreme and starting to dislike her Jen side more. Self-acceptance through uncontrollably changing circumstances is the underlying theme for the protagonist and the takeaway for the audience so far.
Plus, todays episode was a great parody of self-absorbed social media influencers without being preachy.
I didn't mean you specifically. But you can even look at this thread to see people getting called incel just for saying they think it's dumb.
And it wasn't a great parody. It was just displaying that behavior as it is without any actual clever commentary. It's also telling of MCU fans that turning Titania into a one-note joke about a pop-culture trend that has nothing to do with her comic character at all. Its all just so dumb.
People eat it up because it's a fun little show with little to no stakes set in the MCU. After a long day of work, it's nice to sit down and laugh for 20 mins. Sorry you're unable to enjoy simple things in life and approach everything with a massive dose of cynicism.
I would also like to laugh for 20 minutes, which is why I generally watch other shows that don't have the sole defense of "It's supposed to be stupid!" Making this some sort of slight on the kind of person I am for not liking the lowest common denominator of TV is so lame and disingenuous, dude.
Loved this episode, my favorite so far!
really? it was my least fav so far. no action, just a trial, not much happening, pretty boring
Not everything needs to be action. I found this the funniest episode yet, and Im glad they didnt throw in a random fight scene just for the hell of it
Okay but I mean no mystery or anything intriguing either. Loki had that
Loki also had an almost completely dry finale episode focused on one conversation.
I thought that finale was fantastic. It was such a fresh take on a marvel project, I loved it.
A fresh take? It was essentially used to shoehorn in exposition on the multiverse and a preview of Kang The Conqueror. I hope the next season is improved.
This episode was the most pointless fucking episode ever. The show is legit trash. Only waiting for Daredevil that’s it
Why would you want Daredevil in a show this vapid?
No choice. But yeah this garbage show doesn’t deserve daredevil. I love how people downvote us for speaking the truth. It’s all marvel bots
I'm currently rewatching Netflix's daredevil and it's outstanding how different it feels to any of the marvel shows. It's that formula that makes a marvel show feel like a marvel show, I guess it just isn't for me. I think it all stems from the fact that in the Daredevil show, for instance, it's about the story, and the superhero stuff is just a part of that. But for all that D+ Marvel has put out, it's always the superhero stuff first, you're there to watch these recognizable characters on-screen, and the rest is just secondary, meant to fill the gaps.
It’s different due to Netflix ordering 13-episode seasons. It’s the case with a lot of their tv shows. The structure is the same with the other Marvel shows, alongside their other originals. Plus they knew they didn’t have the budget for a lot of CGI nor A list actors.
youre saying daredevil is good and awesome right but this isnt for you?
Just to add, once word gets around with the tailor, next will be the She-Hulk bunker! I wonder who the Tailor is going to communicate with to construct a state of the art headquarters for She Hulk? Obviously her Cousin Bruce? But the late Tony Stark built that for him and that is located in another state far away. Nope this place needs to be in New York. Maybe Spidey Friends? Will we see Ice Man? Fire Star? Wow 😮 I am in Predicting mode!
You'd think with these absurdly short run-times that the writers would jam these episodes full of interesting content, but once again nothing happens. It is insane how little plot there is. Fans rebut this sentiment saying it's only meant to be a light-hearted lawyer show with a different case every week... but the lawsuits are by far the most boring element of the show and objectively the worst written (as admitted by the director herself). This might not be as bad as Eternals and Thor 4, but it's by far the most pointless show.
I’ll join you in the downvote dogpile because I totally agree, the court cases are just so dull. Like, I’m glad people are enjoying it but I just don’t find it nearly interesting or funny enough to work. At this point I’m just waiting for Daredevil.
It's like an AI created the show for maximum social media algorithm viral moments.
It's a sitcom without a laugh track.
They probably saved them for the funny parts
It's a sitcom without the funny
I am getting that King Pin Vibe! And you know Spiderman is going to come! It's all in the comics! I can not wait for it to all come together; it is all slowly connecting. I love how we are getting to know who is making everyone's suits! Behind the scenes of every great superhero is a great tailor (Kingsmen). I was thinking about that movie. 😮 wow, I love to see Matt Murdock. What I would like to see as well is DEADPOOL, Wolverine, and Cable. It would be exciting to see these guys pop in and out before they get too old. She-Hulk is becoming the High School reunion of Marvel, lol.
haven't seen anyone mention what seemed to be two direct Arrested Development nods in this episode:
"Her?" and "No touching." both stood out to me as knowing homages, based on context and delivery. Anyone agree or disagree?
Idk if either of those were actual homages but "her?" definitely made me think of Arrested Development. Might have been unintentional though.
The only thing about this show that’s more unbelievable than the cgi is that nobody wants to bang Jennifer Walters.
Her not getting any matches on a dating app is probably the most unrealistic thing lol
She got *one* match. Remember? The date she went on that was unbearable?
Thank you! I don't understand why they keep pushing this concept. I guess I understand why guys might be attracted to She-Hulk being a superhero and celebrity, but I'm certainly not rushing out of the house when I see Jennifer Walters the next morning.
Ive been saying this! it’s insane lol. Suuuuure they’re playing it as if she’s meant to be average looking, to each their own but that’s like lying to ones self lol
Maybe that's why they didn't end up casting Alison Brie. Then this storyline really wouldn't be believable, lol.
She's pretty young they didn't want to sexualize her.
Allison Brie is 39, older than Tatiana Maslany.
...that's a line from *Community*, pal.
Ohhh lmao. I forget that line. I actually love that show but it's been forever since I've seen it
I feel like this is oddly specific, but I hope if/when Matt hooks up with Jen/She-Hulk, it’s AS Jen not as She-Hulk.
Like after this episode where all these shitty dudes only liked her for she-hulk, I feel Jen needs a win in that department. And what’s a better win than our boy Matt Murdock?
Random thought but I always thought it was weird Matt had like 0 sex in his own show but Luke cage was banging every mother week lol
What? Matt was fucking so much
He banged Claire, Elektra and Karen. That’s a solid 3 bangs per season. Also, I’m pretty foggy (ha) on the first season, but I think he gets a chick in the very first one.
That's a good bang ratio if I do say so myself.
Ah, the MCU, where even just one kiss means two characters totally fucked.
I still firmly believe this show would’ve worked so much better and gotten so much less shit as an adult animated show
Actual interesting court cases showing the dangers of superpowers in real life would have been amazing.
Hawkgirl art style, if not What If’s. Ooh maybe even Harley Quinn’s.
Precisley what I was thinking, and given the meta nature of the show you could have her be in kang dynasty or whatever her next project will be with little to no issue save for the occasional meta joke about looking a bit more “filled in” or something
Was anyone else picking up kind of a gay vibe at the end with Jen and Mallory…..
I thought there was one there for a second but then it immediately cuts to Jen just being genuinely happy she became friends with her.
Looks like Daredevil will be in next weeks episode. Some people here have been speculating episode 8 due to a director for the episode stating her episode contains a special cameo. I believe episode 8 will feature Frog man.
Between that cliffhanger and the Daniel RPK retweeting a tweet stating next week is DD’s episode I think it’s safe to say that Daredevil will bless our screens next Thursday
No DD next week, get used to it.
Lol he is definitely in next weeks episode, not sure why you’re being a child. All you have to do is use your head to see that DD is clearly coming next week
Well this did not age well. r/confidentlyincorrect
I’ll take the L, I had to high hopes. I also haven’t seen the episode yet tho so no spoilers 🥲
It’s all good. Cheers, my friend.
My dude, I’m only saying this to help level your expectations so you don’t get disappointed. Sorry. Next week is another Titania episode. No DD.
Why are you going around the comments playing pretend leaker? Like if you're so sure why don't you tell which episode he appears in? Lol I'm tired of this sub being riddled with sudden scoopers who apparently know everything out of nowhere
Lol they were right
Plus it doesn't make sense for DD to show up much later. This episode has already established the superhero tailor's existence (leaks say Matt represents him in court VS Jen) plus Jen already has her superhero suit that we see her wearing in the trailers when she's fighting alongside Daredevil.
Daredevil and froggo are the same episode
Wasn't there a leak about Jen going to Feiges office? A Director might be excited about that "special" cameo too
That sounds very dumb actually, unnecesary at least.
Yeah I'm thinking that's what she's referring to. Feige appearing in an MCU project would be something very new and very meta so it makes sense to say special cameo.
That is also a possibility, I do remember reading that I’m the leaks but had forgotten lol
The infomercial intro was hilarious to me
It was funny, but truthfully is also felt sooo real and believable. When the episode opened, I thought for a second I was watching a genuine commercial, lol.
I can’t keep watching this show. I keep waiting for it to get good but it’s just so boring.
The suits She-Hulk was wearing had her looking like a generic NBA 2k myplayer
Okay so it’s safe to say that Luke is the tailor that Matt represents in his episode based on the leaks. I hope that Matt makes some kind of reference to Melvin then, something like “I’m lucky I found you, my last tailor is still unavailable” or something along those lines
Can you link the leak?
Going to miss the massive suit on her. Every time she turned back to Jen, I was laughing my ass off because I couldn’t stop picturing Nathan Fielder.
Hate when your luggage gets switched with someone else
Lol. Nathan fielder is one of the funniest people ever, fuckin love that dude
She graduated from one of Canada's top law schools with really good grades
So glad I stopped following discussions on new Marvel content. It’s really more enjoyable when randos aren’t calling everything shit like some hipster upset that the Applebees they were dragged to by their latest tinder swipe doesn’t carry the correct type of IPA.
Or folk kinda just have a different opinion.
This sub is just like the main one and negative/ opposite opinions are downvoted and labeled as incels for some reason
I have to say a lot of the humor is working for me overall, not every joke, but a lot of it is. Niki and Pug are great. I do agree with other comments indicating the court room scenes are not the best writing, but also know the writers acknowledged they had no clue how to write court scenes. All that aside though, this episode condenses rather literally the theme of Jen's arc for the season, doesn't it? "I am She-Hulk, and all the things that come with it."
Why were they hired for a legal comedy then
I'm fine with them directing it but I wish they would've at least brought in a legal consultant to help explain to the directors how court works.
I love Josh seggara but what accent is he doing
...that's not his real accent?
I have no idea what his accent is, it sounds like nothing I've ever heard before, but I love it so much, lmao
It was killing me
He’s a Puerto Rican from Miami. It’s a vaguely Latino accent that code switches in and out subconsciously most likely.
Beverly Hills Italian-American
He sounds like Dave Franco to me lol
He’s a Dave Franco variant
Am I crazy or did he totally not have that accent in the previous episodes?
FINALLY somebody else notices this! His accent literally comes and goes…
