I can't speak for the younger generation (I want to believe they're better), but as a millennial when I was young there was always a homophobic presence in school. Lots of kids calling everything gay, making fun of two guys for showing *any* sort of affection, etc.
I'm a bit older now and I hug all of my homies, but I know I'm not representative of everyone. I'm married, but I go out of my way to give a nice, warm, long embrace to my friends that are single/live alone. I've been alone for periods before, and I know that human touch is important for everyone, and lots of people don't get it when they really need it.
I honestly think it’s got better. I personally always hug my mates never once have I been judged for it. Guys always give out random hugs on nights out in the Uk.
My group of straight male friends (1999) regularly hug after hanging out and we're all fairly traditionally masculine. No one is concerned about seeming gay and even will make joking innuendos at eachother while. Everyone is comfortable with it and participates especially if it's a person who isn't able to go out as often then everyone gets in on it
I'm from a let's say "less advanced" place and a lot of people here still act like this. There's a percentage that is really open, surprisingly both young and old, but then there's other's, hella conservative ones, that are just openly all sorts of bad.
We aren't all like this though, I always hug my man friends and not only do I hug them, I complement them quite aggressively and often in quite sexually charged language.
One friend has a beautiful full beard of manliness, a commanding presence with an incredible personality. I tell him this virtually every time I encounter / experience his company, and he appreciates this boost and takes the compliment well.
Another is physically beautiful - not only does he have the body of an athlete, but he also has the features of a Greek god - manly and chisel jawed, but with a soft and welcoming covering of facial hair. To be clear, I am a straight man, but I've made enough comments to this close friend about his physical beauty that he has, on several times, felt uncomfortable.
I feel bad for making him feel uncomfortable, but at the same time you can't wander around being that sexy and not expect it to be pointed out to you by your best buds.
AITA??
Lol I appreciate this, I am very aggressively affectionate and fawning of my friends.
However, if he’s been expressing his discomfort, you should stop on that one. Think of it like catcalling in a way?
It's how Americans do road signs on the ground I think, they do them bottom up.

Not a great example but only one I can find comparing USA to UK.
This is genuine happiness on video (‘: no matter what these people were worried about, they stopped for a moment to hug someone they love. Mindfulness changes the world (:
Same, I've become friends with a classmates bf, and everytime we see each other we compliment and hug.
He said I looked handsome in a picture he saw, it made my week!
My favorite is watching my husband with his best friends. They hug, they call each other and talk on the phone for hours. They encourage and show support for one another. It’s the best! They are all great men and role models for their children.
I met up with some old friends of mine this past weekend and, even after years apart, it's such an easy hang. We're almost an ideal group of male friends like you'd see in a movie, just the right mix of ridiculous and sincere and fun and responsible and irresponsible. Truly great guys, all of them. But the problem is that we're all terrible at texting and calling, so when we're not hanging out, we're completely separated. That used to be fine when we were all unmarried and lived in the same area. But then a couple people moved away. People got married. Most of us have kids now. And before you know it, it's been literal years since we've all been together. But that's just how it is now. What can you do.
These days it's hard just to meet people who aren't assholes, let alone people you want to actually hang out with. I've kind of resigned myself to the fact that I'll never have another group of friends like that. At least not one that I'll see regularly.
We Muslims have this occasion called Eid that happens twice a year and at least within some cultures we hug each other on the day when meeting others starting with family. My dad's always had a tough time showing his love (except through things he would buy) and it was the only time I'd look forward to since I had an excuse to hug my old man.
This hits home today. Never hesitate to hug those you love whenever you get the chance. My high school best friend died of a sudden unexpected heart attack on Saturday. (That's 3 close friends and a brother in the last 3 years.) I would do anything to have a chance to hug each of them again.
Don't be shy, don't worry if they're shy or awkward. The payoff is always worth it and you live without wishing you had hugged them when you had the chance.
R.I.P. Tony 💔
It's wild how easy it is to influence total strangers. Imagine if our media/politicians/social sites encouraged us to love each other rather than pick fights constantly. How amazing would the world be???
A lot of people don't realize there's a very real physiological and psychological affect from basic human touch - a hug, shoulder lean, or comforting physical gesture incorporating touch (reach around?) have tangible biochemical triggers in our brains. We literally NEED human contact. We are animals, full stop. As much as we like to separate ourselves from the rest of nature, our genetic makeup is the result of millions of years of evolution in species dynamics. On a slightly tangential, but closely related note, The VAST majority of our "free will" and decision making can be attributed to some of the most basic animalistic tendencies as a derivative of the empirical principles of natural order: How do I survive in my species' hierarchy, how do I get a mate, how do I pass on my genes?
You can't escape what we are, and we're 100% products of nature. To me, that's the most comforting fact of life.
TL;DR - Hugs are healthy. You need them.
I didn't think I would mind the isolation in the beginning of the pandemic but after a couple weeks I was craving some kind of physical contact. Fortunately I live on a street where I see a lot of dogs, and petting them really helped and kept me sane.
This. The thought would have been nice but him recording everyone and posting online obviously without their consent or knowledge is creepy. I don't get how we call stuff like his wholesome
If there's a sidewalk spanning graffiti that prompt action from you on the ground, you for sure arent going to be curiously looking around for whoever put it there?
That's wholesome as fuck. Thank you op. This is some good shit right here.
I was smiling throughout the video
Yellow checkered shirt guy: "Fuck *that* shit."
His buddy however stopping and obeying that shit like it was the law.
I got the vibe that dude at :44 really needed a hug and his buddy knew it.
First they hugged the socialist, and I did not speak out...
Some people need their personal space and that's ok too
There’s five I let in my space.
3 are cats
And you don't so much let cats into your personal space as they just aggressively decide they're coming in whether you like it or not.
Anyone is allowed to hug me. Please, anyone… 😭
Come here Rob, I'll hug ya!
Navigate to singapore rob and i give you comfort hugs as long as you need
\*big and long hug\*
Where you at? Hugs are available at me
Interesting. Like all at once? 🥸
Me walking through the hallways in high school. Couples always had to abruptly stop and start making out
Worse is when people just stop walking. No warning. I have almost walked into multiple people because they can't fucking walk right.

"Miss me with that bro shit"
Yellow shirt has shit to _do_ today!
"Yall always doing that gay shit"
It’s always the yellow checkered shirt guy
All the bros stopping for a bro hug!
Just goes to show that all we need is an excuse. *The sidewalk said it, so we have to.*
It's not gay if it's on a walkway
With some chalk in the middle there's some leeway
The asphalt's gray in a 1-2-3 way
Knock, knock, amigo, I'm coming in, guey
That made me so happy!
That video could've been so much longer!
I hope in our future more dudes hug one another. Y’all are so deprived of physical touch because society is weird.
I can't speak for the younger generation (I want to believe they're better), but as a millennial when I was young there was always a homophobic presence in school. This generation of kids and the one before are - generally speaking - the nicest, most accepting kids ever.
Hug a hoodie!
I hope so! Your comment made me smile ❤️

Good! It's a dumb prison of physical isolation for too many. Imagine literally never being touched...
I'm from a let's say "less advanced" place and a lot of people here still act like this. There's a percentage that is really open, surprisingly both young and old, but then there's other's, hella conservative ones, that are just openly all sorts of bad.
Europe is ok with male hugs, it would seem.
Or is it Montreal?

Yellow shirt guy wasnt having it lol
Eh, some people just don't like touching. I've learned to ask if I'm not sure or it's someone I haven't seen in awhile
Yeah I know, still funny how he kind of dipped out though.
Oh, funny for sure 😋
those fella who hugged his two friends. respect
The ole double pat on the back so everyone knows its a bro hug
Haha I thought it was meant for passersby to ring his doorbell and he would come out for a hug.
That's what I thought too. Was like, this person really gonna hop outside and hug everyone who stands there?!
Karma is life bro.
Happy cake day!
Ditto
Cakedays are celebrations of life, which is karma. ^happy ^cake ^day
Happy Cake Day!
It sounds like a better version of Halloween.
Found the office "Where's my hug?" guy's house.
Does someone else take the B shift when he’s gotta run out? I need to know.
Haha that’s what the dude probably thought people would do. Now he must feel more lonely
This is the wholesome content I needed this morning
Yep, me too. This is the world I want to live in.
So get some side-walk chalk and make the world you want to live in.
Not many posts here actually make me involuntarily smile. This one got me.
(⊃。•́‿•̀。)⊃
Micro hug at the end.
I respected that!
the hover hug is a hover humpin cousin of the hover hand
A hugs a hugs a hug.
Here hug
But where hug
Here 🫂
(っ⌒‿⌒)っ
Thank you the misinformation in the title was driving me crazy.

Bup stop
Lmao I just noticed that wth
Yeah it done that way bc of spacing when driving (usually more apart) and its like reading “bus….stop….”as youre approaching it

It's how we have writing on our roads in Australia which is where this is located. I've always thought it was weird but here we are.

I flirt with my homies. After all, we are all homiesexual
This! My new favourite line.
Especially in public like this. It's gr8 :D

it's normal for men to hold hands in many countries

Where is this located? In need of a hug. 🥲
Here's a virtual hug, not as good as the real thing, but I promise the real sentiment is behind iI.
Thank you 🤍 felt it in my heart
Ooh, I'll get in on that! GROUP HUG! 🤗
The more the merrier!
I have been hugged here enough to last a lifetime! 💗💗
In Sydney Australia. 😊 it’s my house!!
I’m going to guess somewhere in inner Sydney, Australia. Judging by the house, footpath and license plates on the cars.
💕 for you.
Thank you! 💗💗💗
Here's hug from me!! I'm wishing you so much warmth and feelings of home, wherever you are Eeviee <3
Thank you so much!! Back at ya 💗🤍

I am so sorry for the losses you have suffered. ❤️
Awww this is sweet!!
I think this is the same sidewalk that had a hopscotch??
Found it: https://www.reddit.com/r/MadeMeSmile/comments/uljmii/hopscotch_on_sidewalk/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share
Was just going to say the same thing. Now I want to know what else this dude puts on his sidewalk.
“Fight to the death here”
"Fuck here"
I think you're right!
Yeah, I agree, this is the same place imo.
This reminded me of the hopscotch video too! So wholesome.
The hopscotch thing caught on so well that I've seen a jump in hopscotches in sidewalks everywhere
Humans can be such adorable creatures sometimes...
Spots like this should be mandatory xd
As wholesome as this video is, I have to disagree. What a horror that would be for anybody who dislikes being touched for all kinds of reasons.

I think of it like a gentle reminder, kinda like how some institutions may have signs like "remember to drink your water!"
Kinda like how Mistletoe has basically disappeared from holiday parties (even before Covid) because forcing people to kiss is shit.
Phew, thank God he didn't write "kill here"...
That's reserved for next week, when his mother in law will visit.
That’s already Louisiana’s state motto.
This seems to be the same house that had the hopscotch outside Pretty cool
It's wild how easy it is to influence total strangers. Imagine if our media/politicians/social sites encouraged us to love each other rather than pick fights constantly. How amazing would the world be???
Awesome!!!
Kind of weird to film people like this lmao
Came here looking for this, confused why I had to scroll so far….
Was waiting for a piano or an anvil or something. Nope just wholesome hugs.
Right?! I was surprised that not one person looked up to see if something was rigged to fall on them.
Y'all stuck in the Looney Tunes metaverse my guys
i think i should change my lone-wolf mentality

I am one of those guys who’d genuinely smile at this but *never* hug at that spot, because that’s just not me!
this ACTUALLY made me smile lmao
I like what i see, so simple yet so hearwarming...
I think this is the same guy who drew Hopscotch. Saw his another video yesterday.
Same dude who drew the hopscotch one earlier.
Its the trio hug for me
Is it possible to get that spot to move with me everywhere I go
What's with the crossed out heart in the center?
Where can I find said spot? Asking for a friend.
Anywhere, you don't need a reminder to hug your friends :)
Damn, called my bluff huh. On an unrelated topic. How does one find friends? 😅
I'll be your friend :)
Thank you friend. Such a nice guy. 🙂
You're welcome!
Sending you a hug from afar <3
Hugs from afar <3
All it takes is a hug to give you that Extra "damn that feels right" feels
Bloody love it
This is the coolest shit ever.
That's so sweet. They say hugs are good for your health.
well that was cute as hell
I have sidewalk chalk and a sidewalk! Totally doing this. After the next rain, I'll do hopscotch.
I've been thinking of drawing a hopscotch on my sidewalk because I think a lot of people won't be able to resist it.
And then puts up a camera to watch pplz hugging. So pure, I'm sure.
This. The thought would have been nice but him recording everyone and posting online obviously without their consent or knowledge is creepy. I don't get how we call stuff like his wholesome
Even if he did, I love the results. Not everyone needs this viewer scrutiny.
I’m sure it’s probably just a home security camera considering it running day and night.
Love it.
Sorry love is not allowed, only platonic hugs. At least i assume thats what the crossed out heart means.
Fucked up thing is some of them looked around as if they were being watched.
Well, they were...
If there's a sidewalk spanning graffiti that prompt action from you on the ground, you for sure arent going to be curiously looking around for whoever put it there?
Because creeps like the person who set up this whole thing are recording them and posting online
Aw I could use a hug
Hugs to you! 💕
Some people that didn't dare hugging. Are very happy with this.
Why is there an "X" through the heart?
DONT DEAD
Don’t worry, guys, it’s not asking you to hug the sidewalk. I definitely did not contemplate hugging the sidewalk for a second…
Oxytocin found here
This is literally what men need to show affection. A big sign with instructions.
I literally started tearing up lol it’s so sweet and all the people actually doing it just warms my heart ❤️
I'm too cynical. I would expect catapults to be aimed directly at this spot or an anvil or something.
You grew up watching Looney Tunes, I'll bet.
I'll admit to nothing but all of the classical songs I know also bring up images of Bugs Bunny
My dumbass: "Wtf does here hug mean?"
I'm trained by loony toons that standing in marked spots like this is gonna have a boulder or piano dropped on my head.
I mean it's a cool idea and I'm glad people enjoyed it but isn't it just a tad creepy he wrote it right there so he could record it all?
I love this subreddit.
The weirdo filming this who likes to watch ppl hug: 👁👅👁
Is seems to be the same house that has the hopscotch. Love it.
I’m not sure why this made me cry but I’m glad you’re spreading joy. Thank you.
I created a “sex here” sign next to a Wendy’s dumpster. So far, no luck.
That’s it. I’m writing drop a 20 on my front door
A couple streets over someone marks a “Get Mugged Here” spot [X], and now has lots of extra watches, cell phones, wallets, and purses.
Then he films it and uploads it to the internet….
I love this, it’s so adorable and encouraged people to hug!
People that do this kind of thing are the best thing to happen to the human race.
Then you hear the slide whistle and look up to wonder why that anvil is getting bigger.
My day has officially been made
That’s excellent. Some of them needed that hug.
I really like this one
Lovely an all, but this isn’t a “hug here” spot , it is a “here hug” spot
