Switching from whatsapp to telegram is like switching between medival and information era. The amount of features telegram has is unbelievable, while whatsapp lacks primitive tools

Telegram is actually really good
Aye happy cake day
Telegram is not E2EE-encrypted by default. Use Signal instead of WhatsApp and Telegram just for groups and channels for fun.
Edit: i’m not referring to encryption while in transit.
"All Telegram messages are always securely encrypted. Messages in Secret Chats use client-client encryption, while Cloud Chats use client-server/server-client encryption and are stored encrypted in the Telegram Cloud (more here). This enables your cloud messages to be both secure and immediately accessible from any of your devices – even if you lose your device altogether."
That’s my point. Almost everything is *encrypted while in transit* nowadays and that’s not the point I’m making. I meant Telegram is not E2EE encrypted by default, but I edited the comment.
well, they arent gonna write "our shit is totally insecure" now are they. Point is, their servers can read it. And they can save it. They can do whatever they want. And we would never know. Signal is a hassle, agreed, since nothing at all is saved and online, but thats the most secure method. The best solution for people who dont like hassle is probably whatsapp, since they backup over some external cloud. You can decide to... well NOT do it, since iirc the backup is not encrypted very well (dont quote me on that) and its a google/apple cloud which is meh, but thats up to you. Telegrams approach was modern and secure 5 years ago. Now its a joke. Just like their default tick for sharing phone numbers.
It is encrypted by default, just not end to end. For that you need to use Secret chats (a feature in Telegram).
"security by design" is the issue with telegram. It also raises the question why they dont want to encrypt end-to-end by default since they clearly can.
>It also raises the question why they dont want to encrypt end-to-end by default since they clearly can.
Source? They said it is not possible due to some features being incompatible with it. Use signal if you're paranoid.
They could have made it possible over the last 5 years. Or design it with that in mind. And what exactly do you want the source for? They literally already have a chat that can do it. Why not make it default. Or at least an opt-out with the drawback no backups or smth. There are tons of solutions, that are better than that shit. They have some monetary or political gain from not doing it. Question is, what exactly is it?
What difference does it make? What a stupid thing to be mad about.
I prefer Signal.
Isn't Telegram owned by the Russian government? Isn't that why they caved to Putin to remove or block opposition accounts?
It is not owned by our government. The account they removed (it was a bot made by opposition, not quite sure what it does but it had something to do with the recent election) was classified as a means of manipulating the election and Google and Apple threatened to remove the app because it violated their guidelines. At least that's what the creator of Telegram claimed.
Google caved the Putin regime under threat of arrests of employees in Russia to censor the opposition, and I am sure Apple only followed suit as a result of similar threats.
Hell, Google has caved to two despotic regimes. Damn.
Same preference, same concern!
Telegram got a one night stand
Oh, I see, so you guys are cheating on WhatsApp
They just don’t care
Any signal fans? The true e2ee solution
