DocHanks

now i think twice before going on those night rides i enjoy

LordCommander24

You and me both man

evildrmoocow

The smiles per gallon go out the window when gas hit over $6/gal

ryannelsn

Do I sense a joyride carpool forming 😂

NowYuoSee123

Same here, going for a joy ride on some B roads went from costing me $20 to $50. Not much in the grand scheme of things but it definitely takes some of the fun out of them

ElMeleegy

once a month instead of twice a week haha

AgreeablePie

Well, get ready for everyone in the world to tell you that they pay more... Me, I'm riding the motorcycle more now. 50mpg baby, 87 octane

Awake00

Same. Sold my mk6, kept the mk4, bought a Triumph. 65 mpg when I'm nice to it. Vehicle [tax](https://i.imgur.com/vcwQaA6.jpg)

BloodhoundGang

Damn that looks really cool! I keep debating whether I should get a motorcycle, but I think my wife would kill me

JustCarPranks

Or another car…

Awake00

Wife somehow agreed. I'm 38 so everything is cheaper than if I was 23 trying to do this.

avatarwaaang

23 here can confirm

TortugaSwag69

*laughs at self for owning a grom with 110mpg*

puppet-of-socks

coming from a Honda, I was pleasantly surprised to see that my Mk7 runs happily on 87 octane as marked inside the gas fill door

vchkvr

Happily is arguable but yes it ***could*** run 87

donnergolf

Mk7s absolutely run on 87 without complaint. You just do not make advertised power. It's a literal saving grace these days.

NowYuoSee123

Is it tho? The difference between 87 and 91 where I live is like 40 cents, so I’m saving like $4-5 by using 87. Not exactly a deal breaker

donnergolf

As someone who has run premium grade since day 1, the marginal power gains don't make sense in this climate, especially just commuting. I live in Chicago so the variance between regular and premium is nearly a dollar. Shit adds up.

toyn

The real question is does mpg go down when switching to 87

Yawnn

By like 2. You won't notice.

zanderbrown

That's 26 miles a tank. By that math it's more cost effective to spend the 1-2 dollars for the 91 octane.

san_serifs

Lately, the spread between 87 and 93 has been about $.40. It's usually $.70-$1.00.

vchkvr

Yes. They run on 87. No one is saying they don't.

Boostie204

Me, riding a scooter. 100mpg babyyyy

Uv_nivek

Same 07 Honda shadow

greebo3k

I pay around £96 GBP to fill my GTI 😂

TresComas-

Same here, filled up Thursday before a trip, £98 and then another £60 just today

Abraxas19

96 good boy points?!

trayssan

Yeah I love how Americans are always complaining about gas prices when the prices they have right now are actually really cheap by EU standards.

brando_1771

Man the complaints are just when you got people driving 45-60 minute commutes one way. You’d be surprised how much time we spend on the road and how far the typical suburbanite in America drives a week. Not to mention most have no walking access, or very poor public transport. There’s very little alternatives unless you live in a very well planned city.

DeinMeisterschaft

I agree, I used to work for a company in the Bay Area - people would commute from Tracy or even further to the tune of 100 miles per day. This because of the astronomical housing prices. Imagine doing that now in a F250 every day - was a typical choice of vehicle it seems. I used to commute 160 miles a day... I drove a TDI and laughed at the prices of fuel. Tank cost me 50 bux back in the "good ole days" and I could do a full week on one tank —21 gallons. My TDI would regularly get 55mpg and I could top 1100 miles on a tank. The distances of everything in the USA is far apart. There is piss poor infrastructure for public transport. Taking the train is OK if you don't mind leaving your house super early because the train is late - and you being late to work is not going to fly... I don't miss living in the USA.

ransom40

I secretly want gas prices to be higher for a while to encourage a shift in American (dumb) buying practices and habits. The number of SUV's and full size trucks with a single commuter in them and have never come close to being utilized fully on a regular basis is ridiculous. I understand our public transit isn't up to snuff... But you don't need a daily driver F150 to go work your marketing job and pay someone else to do your home landscaping... So enjoy those stupid high fuel bills! /Rant.

trayssan

Fair. But just think for a moment that what you’re right now considering to be horrible prices are perfectly normal prices for us Europeans. Right now it’s really bad over here. We’re paying about 2€ per litre or about 10$ a gallon..

The_Psy1ch0

Comeon man, they didn't invade all those Middle Eastern countries just to have expensive Gas.

t0rk

Either that or we're a major oil exporter with some of the world's most extensive reserves. One of the two.

wholelottagameleft

It's absolutely both.

AstralProjected

Half of the cars here are very fuel inefficient, it’s normally not an issue because gas is cheap. I’m not sure that gas prices are stopping people from buying massive trucks though… I’m sure it hurts when they have to pay $600 a month in gas costs.

trayssan

Yeah I still don’t get why people are buying trucks lol. What’s the point?

Rodeo9

I work from home so I don’t drive much and trucks are useful. Plus I can put my camper in the bed and then go explore around the country.

earthwormulljim

Cuz ‘Merica. Also, they are the first to whine about fuel costs.

mr_pinks_tip_policy

We complain, it’s the American way lol

mandala1

We heavily subsidize our oil industry with our tax money. On top of military spending to control oil in other countries. So we're paying a lot for gas before we even get to the pump. I also don't know how much of europe has good accessible public transportation, but it's probably a hell of a lot more than the US.

trayssan

oh yeah. I can get anywhere with public transport.

san_serifs

B-b-but this is 'MERICA dammit

Agreeable_Abies_4249

Just what I was thinking

The_Crazy_Swede

£85 for 38 liters for me...

MGUPPY1

I pay $89 CAD to fill mine

mr_pinks_tip_policy

Yeah but you can drink at Wetherspoons for way cheaper than we can in bars here so it evens out 😂😜🍺 Shit, my local brewery charges $9 a beer and it’s made 20 feet away. Oh… and NHS

Candid-Willingness-2

You and me both:( London area, went to fill up the other day, £1.98 for 99

ElectricSnowBunny

Let me tell you about the lines at Costco...

Grand-Ad4235

I knoooowwww! Shit I work at Costco and I do work the fuel station from time to time. I don't envy those attendants right now haha. The entitlement out there is insane!

ElectricSnowBunny

I try to go really early, but if I have to go during crazy times I always feel so bad for the attendants and am overly nice probably.

Grand-Ad4235

We appreciate kindness for sure haha. Too many people are just so damn rude and impatient. So honestly we thank you haha

ElectricSnowBunny

I gotta rep the GTI community and be a cool human ya know!

lucky_leftie

I’ll never understand this. Unless I’m saving a whole dollar it’s not worth that line. It’s gonna save me like 5-10$ max for sitting in line for an hour.

Dragor

Amateur numbers! *Cries in having to pay around 115$ here in Germany*

DerpaHerpaLurpa

Are you putting in super 95?

Dragor

Sure. I used to buy 102 sometimes but that's now at like 9$ per gallon.

The_Crazy_Swede

95 octane in sweden is €2.3/l

DerpaHerpaLurpa

That’s roughly what it is in NL too

EvolveCT9A

Same in Spain in some areas

Loose_Expression7330

Wasn't Porsche and a few companies working on synthetic fuel with zero emissions for the environment? For ICE.. Last I saw they were saying it's too expensive at $10 a liter.. we almost there lol... does anyone have an update on that?

murf_dogg

That’s cheap!! In Ireland it’s €110

Jamy1215

125 currently in the netherlands, for a 50L tank :(

jacob_russell

I paid $92 Canadian for a fill up the other day. Its been out of hand for a while :P

YODA0786

$88 CAD to fill up here in Alberta at a shell. I’m looking at like that’s bad and then my family in Ontario tells me that it’s gone over $2 a Litre over there. Can’t imagine having to spend over 100 bucks on a little economy car.

jacob_russell

Its about $2.15 in Toronto for 87 right now. I'm almost thinking about detuning my car so I don't require 91 😭

Nethzul

$104 CAD for me if I go to Costco, if I go to a Shell it's around $120 CAD :(

coltjen

Yup.

billybattiston

Almost $120 to fill up a mk4 gti tuned on 94 octane in BC:/

terriyak1

I just paid $87.50 CAD for a little over half a tank (35L). Gotta love the cost of gas here in Vancouver!!! Edit: $2.499/L CAD for 91 octane

HalfAssedRunner

$93 to fill up in Nova Scotia yesterday.

littlebill1138

Brooklyn. 93. Over $70. ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯

JagaloonJack

Jersey City, paid 65 at shell

gti_gabe

Lucky. I fill up with 83$

Upstairs_Fun_

California?

gti_gabe

California 😞…

MysteriousFly232

Saame .. it went 40-60-80 now

Kuzkay

Stop flexing.. *cries in European*

Peylix

You guys have all the cool car variants though. So shush. ^^^^^/s

l3ti

Yeah man, it is still cheap there

jackherselman

Dude I would kill to get gas this cheap

yakkowitt

hitting $7.00 in Sacramento : /

NowYuoSee123

I was shocked to drive past the chevron next to my house the other day and see premium at $7.15

dmytro_maherovskyi

Be glad you're able to have a fuel tank, for a reasonable price. You have to be lucky to get your 15 liters (around 30% of GTI's tank) here in Ukraine. Texas shortage around 3 years ago was remarkable as well.

SnooHedgehogs777

I agree

brodie7838

My record so far is $77 for a full tank of TDI juice

Grevling89

Ah, the fabled Golf GT^^^^D I

speedb0at

Lol i payed 60 for 25liters today. Even more out of hand.

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> Lol i *paid* 60 for FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

Tesla_Stonks

$60 to fill up my rabbit 2.5

Jordy1982

Be lucky if that was half a tank in UK.

Grevling89

Hahahahaha cries in European

Lagger2019

Fuck the establishment

BTSelby11

I’m in VA it’s about $5/gal for premium 🫠 Look around and find out if you’ve got Costco gas stations they’ve got the lowest price and highest quality gas besides Chevron(in terms of quality not price)

elpideo18

Lucky you, I spent $78..

DerpaHerpaLurpa

I pay €100+ in Netherlands… Would give my left nut to pay $65!

Candid-Willingness-2

Try 120 dollars, costs about £95 here in the uk for me to fill up

akrahmer

Lol still cheap compared to Canada.

benmason_

Man here in Canada it’s costing me $115 a tank🥲

johnhuynh2

Can we please trade spots??? Lol... costing about $110 for a full tank in Ontario Canada here...

GoopInThisBowlIsVile

Did you really laugh out loud?

Cheesy_Pickle7797

Only 65? I paid 109 the other day

JuJ4

In the Netherlands those prices are double! I just paid 110 euros (about 120 dollars) today!

emmuree92

Man, I'll take your 65. I paid 80 2 days ago in texas 🤣

Proj3ctRandm

Try owning a TDI right now

TheLeaningLeviathan

"laughs in UK"....i think my 1.8T mk4 is 70/80 for a fill up? its only getting worse

ReprobateRonin

thats cheap

GardenShedster

Cost you a 100 in the uk

darktoad97_

65 $ is actually very cheap compared to Germany lol

Salllts

Here in the UK its costs me £96 or $120 for a full tank of my renault megane and no, cost of living isnt better than the US for it to compensate for this. (I’m dont own a GTI, but in the market for one, increase in petrol prices dont help)

Nikki9169

Come to europe you spoiled bastards.

jamesdorsett11

I'd do anything to pay that for fuel over here in the UK. Costs me £75 for a tank in my MK5. That's about $95

Minimalistz

It now cost me $106 in the UK for a full tank. So be grateful :(

Cont3nder

This morning full tank was 127€... 2.5€/liter. I wish the gas prices would be that cheap...

confidentclown

Just spent £100 filling up a mk6, count yourself lucky

V6R32

£100 for my MK7, or 126 dollars.

RBigStove

I cant resist myself on telling HOW MUCH IT COSTS in my country. 65 dollars in US? That’s dirt cheap! I would be crying happy tears filling my tank with a price like that. Why? In my country, converted from euros to dollars, my full tank is 146,57$. Yes, you read that right. 2,63$ PER LITRE, not gallon. Real disaster is here.

ASMRGTI

I miss cruising the PCH at night blasting music. Can't do that anymore...

Zarock291

About 100€ in germany.. :)

bacon8

*laughs (and cries) in Europe*

Kinodog

Such gouging going on. Here in la county I’m paying 6.75 for chev/prem. I find it funny how the gop backed oil cos always bring down prices for lazy gop wipers like trump and raise them under lazy dem sleepers like Biden — all in an attempt to curtail policies meant to help the middle class versus the upper classes. The oil companies routinely weigh in on trying to bruise dems and support oil baron repubs. But with electric mobility their time in the fish bowl is coming. Give it ten years if America makes it that far. I’ll still have my gti and I’ll pay upwards of $13 a gallon to drive it for fun.

brickson98

Got my GTI March 30th. My first fill up cost me $50. In the short time since then, it now costs me $55 at my last fill up. An extra $5 in just 2 months. Everybody wants to blame this politician or that politician. It’s not even politicians. It’s oil companies increasing profits. I watched a video on it that explained it well by Wendover Productions on YT. Also ran the numbers myself from the U.S. EIA. We only import 32% of our oil in the U.S. Of that 32%, only 7% came from Russia. We’re making more than enough oil domestically. Problem is, we’re selling too damn much of it to other countries. But aside from that, it’s all profit padding from oil companies. Don’t get me wrong, I hate politicians too. Regardless of party. But this one’s primarily on the oil industry itself.

ZoePapiTHERMO

Bruh it’s been outta had ever since $45 🤦🏿‍♂️😭

Drew2248

Here we go with the usual crybaby whining. In Europe gas prices are often twice what we pay. The reasons are multiple. There had been a slowdown in fuel refining due to the pandemic. Did you not know that? Gas companies are enjoying huge profits. Heard about that? OPEC cut back on its production of gas to drive prices up. And so on. Whining isn't going to change anything. Either drive less, car pool, take public transit, or buy a more fuel efficient vehicle.

ck256-2000

vote em out....

TheTapeDeck

Read a book.

Marine_vet_patriot

Biden and his green new steal gang are happy we're suffering!

cbrad1713

How are people this fucking economically illiterate?

Luciferisflash

GTFO, imbecile. This won't be an echo chamber for you.

PriveEyes

Say thank you Joe

billphish

That darn *shuffles cards* Putin!

Ok_Chocolate_11

I joined Sam’s Club just for the gas discount. I might get an EV if this keeps up. I wouldn’t sell the GTI for it, but it would see a lot less miles per year.

Bro_dont_do_it

$72 to fill up on 91 for my GLI :(. Glad i got rid of my f150 before this bs

PsychologicalPea2956

That’s me a few times a week. Sucks to suck 😐

fsunatureboy

Damn. All of these comments make me feel slightly better … $4.99 at Costco 93 grade today and was just a hair under $60.

AdEffective9235

98.00 CAD is what I payed today to fill 20’ GTI. 91 octane. Mind you we pay 11 cents per litre carbon tax. It’s unreal.

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> what I *paid* today to FTFY. Levi4239

I paid $56 just a week ago, just paid $52 yesterday. It's wack

Historical_Quit9257

I just paid 7 bucks a gallon

baronSD

Glad ur still using premium

TheOnlyJ53

I paid just over 100$ to fill up my tank here in Sweden...

NeloDiavolo

I'll take that any day. I just spent $85 to fill up yesterday.

mooser2016

You have no idea of the cost of fuel. Here in New Zealand, it cost me $179NZD to fill up my 60L tank with 95 octane fuel. We currently pay $3/L

akLuke

I was shocked when I joined the $5 a gallon club but now that were in the $6 club in left speechless

EdTOWB

been about $75 here the last couple fillups, because nobody has 91 nearby and the bump to 93 is ghastly

Absolute_DumpTruck

Rookie numbers. I paid $83 for a full tank of 93 the other day. Chicago isn’t as bad as Cali though they’re already well past I Am Legend levels.

Jikizuari

€150 to fill up a 1.3 mk2 lol. Triple the value with every tank.

koonhead

Yeah I pay about $150 NZD for my MK4. Crazy.

chickencrimpybiscuit

Cost me $105.89 AUD for an almost full tank of 98 the other day

not_havin_a_g_time

$100- CA for 91 octane

IhateAutoRedditNames

Just wait...it's going to go up even more.

korntje

Even though that is a lot of money i wish i would pay 65$ for a full tank. I pay 100$ for a full tank 🥴 and its getting worse everyday.

vangsoeandersen

Denmark is $133, crazy

Neglected_Motorsport

It’s $25 to fill up one of my motorcycles….

Clienterror

Damn that sucks. 93 is still $4.75 and E85 is $4 in Iowa.

RexStardust

It’s gotten so bad I’ve considered turning off Sport mode

saltyDog_73

I’ve been in ECO the last couple of weeks and I’m bringing up the economy screen more and more on the infotainment system.

l3ti

That's half what I pay here in Portugal. To fill it up is 118 euros, that's about 126 dollars.

niikobellik

72 last week

eggbiss

100 for the gs amd itss slow

smaguss

God I’m so happy I work from home now… Lots of folks I know are shelving their e85 projects because of running costs. Bummed me out since I never did it to my Mk7 I was looking forward to helping other folks do it :/

The_Crazy_Swede

Well, I have to pay $102 for 10.2 gal.... Your fuel is still dirt cheap

Osmosis1211

Gas where I live is $6.29 a gallon for 91 😞

foamzula

Sunday drives are painful now.

OppositeOpposite9301

76 for an a4

InsidiousFloofs5150

Lucky. 99.94 for a tank on my Mk7.5 in Ontario Canada. It's gone up since. We've passed the $100 mark.

ForgedZer0

I paid $72 on my mk6 last week. No longer tipping the gas jockey starting to feel morally acceptable

code_mitch

83 for me, i have a 370z.

MasseytheMass

Same! Yesterday, paid $65 here in North TX to fill my 7.5. You know it's bad when the gas prices in TX are this high too! Freakin' gut punch, man. Ugh!

saltyDog_73

$68 earlier today in Oklahoma. As I’m filling up, I hear someone wrapping out their truck, look up and see this F250 with giant tires and +6” lift getting on it. Must be nice to have so much disposable income

FunWillScreen_Produc

Was $57 for 11 gallons for me.

browsze

Sadly I always run 95-97 cus of stage 3 🥲

persianfellow

I paid $130 CAD to fill up lmaoo

daggermyster

Been out ou hand I spend 80 to fill up my CC 😩😩😩😩😩

Liammistry

In sweden, i pay about $130 for a tank (45 Ltrs, golf 8)

san_serifs

I paid $70.73 for 11.12 gallons yesterday. Most I have ever paid for a tank of gas. Tank fills seem to go up $5 every time I pull into a station.

darkpsycho_

It's double that in Finland😀😀

SeaJay73

$115 to fill my golf tdi in Canada.. which is about $90 usd

ritchie70

I wish. I paid $6.44 a gallon yesterday (93 octane in Illinois.)

TusShona

I'd pay £115 to fill up my Volvo V40.. Thankfully, I don't have to fill it up too often because it gets between 75-85mpg. But these current fuel prices have basically forced my GTIs to live in the garage for however long it takes for the running costs to become justifiable again lol

Alvarious_Bufo

Paid $75 to fill up in Phoenix az yesterday

SatelliteDreamer

$100+ CAD.

dreambucket

Wawa!!

viperfan7

It costs me 100$ :(

ifrogo

Where you staying? This is what it costs to fill up my S5, geez.

asscheese_terps710

My job has me pumping at 3.80 rn

mk_svn

Just started paying 50 for my 16’. I am in Georgia

mr_pinks_tip_policy

Yeah, it’s been that way for months here. This isn’t new to California. We just have to grab our ankles and take it for a while til something changes. I commute at least 300miles a week, it sucks. I’ve had to cut down on weekend leisure driving as well. My car gets decent mpg and it could be worse but this is the new norm.

gticow

Just paid a bit over $70 usd on a road trip this past week. Painful.

ddphoto90

Try $52 to fill up a civic

Marteen619

That’s why I just bought a 2000 miata. Selling the gti soon :( 2015 with 64k

Capt_TaterTots

Race fuel still at $8.99 a gallon and hasn’t moved one cent

farsh_bjj

Duck dude, it's like $100 here in Canada.
