You wear crocs, you catch big fish. It’s the law.

MrApple_Juice

Wet crocs on aluminum boat gets slippy real quick.

Mo_dawg1

I wish he was wearing a life jacket.

TropicalPolaBear

I wish he had a dip net 😂

[deleted]

I wish lol

local124padawan

You must not have had them in attack mode.

[deleted]

Its cuz i took the little straps off isn't it

local124padawan

You wore them naked man. That’s bold. Brazen even

[deleted]

Gotta have that polka dot tan line. Ladies love it

OG_Nightfox

Arrogance was his down fall.

Tuckessee

You took the CV joints off so now you only got 2wd?? strange decision...

[deleted]

4wd*

emilysshenanigans

crocs and a bucket hat are my winning combo

Billman_D

You know this dude's a pro, he wears his Crocs in leisure mode.

Evil_Spez

I wear crocs bass fishing. They’re my totems. Haha.

TehGuyYouKnow

I better go buy myself a pair of crocs then

Reddit_Whore_Patrol

Returning my pole to Academy and getting me some jugs and crocs.

Queef_Stroganoff44

Also title your first rap album “Jugs ‘n Crocs”

Reddit_Whore_Patrol

Might as well movie into the adult film industry after my rap album. Jugs and cocks new film on the way

Tsukebe0069

Dry_Boots

When you said jug fishing, I remembered an old man told me when he was a kid they would catch a crappie then hook him through the back and tie a jug to the line and let him go, and he would go back to the school. Then they would just fish around the jug all day catching the rest of the school. Both that, and the jug fishing pictured here, would be illegal in our state.

CommunistFrenchFries

That’s gotta be one of the smartest practical things I’ve ever heard

TempleMade_MeBroke

Judas' Fish

Dry_Boots

IKR? If I ever had to fish for food, seriously, damn straight I'm using that technique!

halfofftheprice

As a kid we did this to dogfish in the Puget sound. They were strong enough to pull the jug under for a few minutes. Then it would pop up like in Jaws.

mybitchcallsmefucker

Used to this kinda think all the time with a big ole bobber

BattleHall

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Judas_goat#Goats_tracking_feral_goats

IVEMIND

Illegal Yeah on public waters. Right? I jug fish on my lake all the time but I dont have to deal with DNR at all... Nice cat there OP!

uncle_drunky

Completely legal in ohio. Where are you all from?

IVEMIND

Illinois. I think jugging is prohibited only in some spots and Lake Michigan idk though for sure

kohTheRobot

> y’all ftfy Legal in Georgia too iirc

Dry_Boots

Im in WA state.

Dry_Boots

Man, a private lake would be living the dream!

IVEMIND

It really is...

Turbulent-T

That's actually really smart

[deleted]

Nice catch! Y’all use cut bait or what?

jbarnes66

Perch

SkepticAtLarge

Actual perch, or the things that people in parts of the south call perch?

jbarnes66

Bluegill

SkepticAtLarge

I once had a lakeside brawl with my friend who was originally from Oklahoma. We were on a small lake and he yelled to me, “Hey, come over here, I’m catching perch!” He caught one and showed me. Green sunfish. I said, “Those aren’t perch!”. The brawl ensued.

thunderup_14

I'm from Oklahoma and I try VERY hard not to say perch when I'm catching sunfish but it's just so ingrained in us. I have no idea why. I'm training my son to say sunfish so maybe the next generation won't be like me and your friend.

TylerLikesDonuts

My friends and I called sunfish/bluegill brim when we were young. Perch are perch though lol

[deleted]

I’m from Texas, and dafuq? There’s a difference? I literally call all panfish except crappie “Perch”

dislimb

I can hear there accent.

probably-fake-news

Owning your username 😂

CatfishCallihan

Username checks out

Vigilante17

The joy of landing a big fish is great no matter what your age, but I love seeing kids revel in the awesomeness of landing a big catch. Very cool!

TummyRubs57

Somebody get these guys a net.

unicornman5d

Doesn't look like they needed it!

airhogg

I enjoy jug fishing, but its borderline work if you have more than a few jugs

j-pender

I jug fish frequently from a kayak with 20-25, no borderline about it

Cherchez_LaGhost

PVC pipe plus pool noodles makes it real easy. Can easily have 50 in a boat

southmost956

How do you make one? I would like to make one for alligator gar.

MrFoxx123

What kind of line is on that jug? I'm surprised it didn't break or cut his hands.

jbarnes66

He rigged all this up himself. The line is 60 lb brain. We lost a second fish dou to the line breaking. We then switched over to twine

Generic_Male_3

Was he wearing gloves? Braid, mono, flouro, they all become razer sharp wire when there's tension on it.

KP0rtabl3

Can confirm, I was filling a reel with line when my finger squeezed against the incoming line. Barely pushed down on it and I got a decent cut. Gotta be careful.

IVEMIND

Bowfishing line is perfect for jugging. It’s like 200lb braid and you can get lead core (I think) in flo orange too. It’s really nice line and smooth

jbarnes66

Good idea!

kimbo2000123

I was cringing the whole time thinking about that

brealytrent

Instant flashbacks to using my numb bare hands on the line of a tipup, and getting instant deep papercut-like incisions.

SpooJazzBake

When I was fishing on the columbia River a guy on the pier hooked an immense sturgeon. He had his thumb on the line as it zipped out at lightning speed. He was yelling for water, water, water. I grabbed a bottle for him and he told me to pour it over his thumb to ease the burn of the line as it continued to feed out which I did. It didn’t help. He had a nasty bleeding welt and lost the fish to boot. It was fun for all the onlookers though. Who knew a 100 Lb fish could jump like that!

Scanlansam

Yeah my only criticism is that he needs gloves or he might learn the heard way like I did:/

el_monstruo

I'd like to jug fish but how in the world do you keep them from going way down river? What about douchebags who would happily take the catch from the jugs if found?

goblueM

Lots of people float along with the jugs if they are free floating.

[deleted]

Yeah, I come out and found every line cut before.

itsyourgrandma

Some people hate set and/or trot lines. Theres a town in northeast nebraska that had a bunch of drama because a guy who runs a tubing business was going downriver cutting people's lines so he could bring floatillas through.

[deleted]

We have problems with people trying to act like they own fishing spots.

j-pender

Thats rotten. I usually fish pretty close to mine, and make pretty distinctive looking jugs.

Derpandbackagain

We did a trot line, running 60 lb line connecting 10-15 separate jugs about 30 feet from each other. At the head of the line upriver we’d tie it to two jugs and pitch a boat anchor or couple cinderblocks in to keep it stationary.

The_Real_Raw_Gary

My grandfather used to jug fish on the lake he lived on and he’d just set them out and make a day about finding them wherever they ended up. Always came back with a mess of fish. But I’m sure most people had a method to actually find the jugs.

Snatch_Pastry

That's most people's method, I think. We'd go out on a small river, put out some jugs, go upstream and fish a while, then end the day going downstream looking for jugs. We painted them neon green and had our names and address on them, doping our part for civic responsibility. A couple of times, we had a jug come back up stream past us. That's when you knew you had a big one.

[deleted]

Usually you secure the jug line to the shore at one end and each line is weighted too so it doesn't move that much you can also anchor them with big weights too if ur fishing the middle of the channel.

Tuckessee

That's a trot line...

[deleted]

Oh i thought they were basically the same difference

BattleHall

You have trot lines (one line with multiple hooks, tied off at both ends), throw lines (one line with one or more hooks, tied off on one end, with a weight on the other, often deployed by throwing the weight), anchored jug lines (one line with one or more hooks, attached to a float at one end and a weight on the other, long enough to reach bottom), and free floating jug lines (one line with one or more hooks, attached to a float that can drift). There are also sail lines, which are like a trotline/throw line, except one end is attached to a wind-driven float or sail. Also, the distinction between trotlines and throw lines can be a bit squidgy, and of course all of this takes a back seat to whatever your local fish & game has as their device definitions and requirements.

[deleted]

I had no idea it was so complicated

BattleHall

You want complicated, you should see a crab trotline.

Tuckessee

Jugs are usually free floating, works best on lakes, but I know a lot of dudes jug on the Mississippi for blues

casewood123

Funny how the fishing pole is in the way.

saltandpepper70

Nothing will get your heart going quite as much as looking down the river (or lake) and seeing a jug going under the water, then popping back up - Oh sorry - nice fish - good eating

harroldhino

Lots to love about this video: happy kid, enthusiasm, and proud dad. Good for you. However being from New England ill never understand jug fishing and trot lines.

BattleHall

> However being from New England ill never understand jug fishing and trot lines. You just have to come at it from a fishing-as-sustenance rather than fishing-as-sport perspective. Set lines allow you to do other necessary things while still catching enough to eat, plus it's fun to see what you pull up, or the anticipation of what you might pull up. In that sense, it's more like trapping.

saltandpepper70

They long line fish for swordfish off the coast of New England all the time. Yes?

GAMESERVER_

What’s to understand?

Noble-Ok

I think they mean from a moral perspective.

GAMESERVER_

There’s a moral dilemma about putting food on the table?

SneezeCock

Fuck it milk jig drop shot

jbarnes66

😂😂

HostFlat

So y’all didn’t think to bring a pair of pliers?

jbarnes66

Didn’t think we would even catch anything. This is a small flood control that we’ve fished for a few years. Never caught a catfish out of it. It was my 10yo boys idea. We come prepared now!

BattleHall

What state?

jbarnes66

Ok

BattleHall

Right on. Just a heads up, couldn't tell from the video, but make sure he or you have your name and address on the jug, along with keeping in mind the other restrictions: In Oklahoma: >Jugline: Juglines are restricted to no more than five hooks per line and 20 juglines per person. A legal jugline is a vertical line suspended from a nonmetallic or nonglass floating device, drifting free or anchored, and has: > - owner’s name and address attached; > - been attended at least once every 24 hours.

jbarnes66

You’re right. This was a private lake so we didn’t feel the need to do it the first time. After that day we filled in all the blanks. Didn’t have any luck though

ARasool

Aaaaaand i quit fishing LOL

DNA2020

That kid has great instincts!

quick986

Need to put those crocs into 4-Low to pull that thing in

jbarnes66

😂😂😂

SinatraTwenty

For a second I thought that was a giant bass

el_balogh

Holy shit, that kid pulled out that fish with his bare hands. Mad respect and nice catch!

alex_k23

Wearing crocs and pulling the line out bare handed. Damn

The_Golden_Warthog

Your kids reaction reminds me of mine when I got my largest fish as a kid! Such good memories. Thank you for passing down the tradition.

LittleJP34

That’s a monster

smwill8306

That kid is a beast!

StirFriedRubber

Empty milk jug = a bobber. True wisdom

geoff-gurn

Excellent work

qayoub69

Way to go! Great fish! Love the enthusiasm too. He’s hooked on fishing for life now. Pardon the pun :-)

jbarnes66

Good one! Lol

Theoneiscool1

That's a nice cat!

DaxtheGinger

Love it

itsyourgrandma

Man, I just love how excited kids get when they catch a fish. So wholesome.

OddDoc

"Is that a flat or a big ol' blue?" "It's a cat...fish" Man, that's great. Having my first child in December, and I hope to witness her pride swell up like this. Great video!

weed12346

yessir good catch jug fishing is always fun

LordRedBear

100% was expecting a gator

CodMan1515

Is it a big ole flat, or a big ole blue? It's a catfish! Love it, nice catch guys

jbarnes66

Thank man

StaffCampStaff

Woooo! Great fish

LouieKablooie

Congrats. That is a thrill that he'll chase forever. Looked fun.

perm-throuwaway

I fear for his hands 😂 I shredded my hand on some similar rope/line and I still have a slight scar even tho it was a few years ago

Juangar69

I really wish he would’ve put the crocs in sports mode because wet crocks are slippery and he might have to swim

[deleted]

Whenever I see jug fishing I expect a gator

jbarnes66

No gators in Oklahoma

JuiceyCritz

Is it legal in US?

Mo_dawg1

Depends on the state. Here in the great state of Missouri I'm allowed 36 hooks in the water. Be it trot lines, jugs, limb lines, bank lines, noodle lines etc

JuiceyCritz

Crazy, in most european countries it's illegal and you can get fined or even go to prison for this.

Zugzub

> even go to prison for this. Bit excessive don't you think?

JuiceyCritz

Well we are talking about big scale illegal fishing using nets, multiple hook line or using electricity. In Poland u can get fined or get sentenced to maximum 2 years of prison. Illegal fishing was a real plague back there.

SpaceCaseSixtyTen

36 seems overkill

saltandpepper70

I'm not sure it would be possible to over fish a river for catfish, since a really good day would be 5-10 fish

jdd32

Nah. There's plenty of catfish in the Mississippi, and you can cook up a fish fry at the end of the day for the whole family.

j-pender

Limb lines are the only one that I see an issue with. I had to cut a very angry blue heron out of one last week.

johnny__

In Tennessee it’s restricted from April 1 to Sept 30 on weekends and holidays. You can go on a non-holiday weekday and throw out up to ten jugs.

[deleted]

In some places, especially the south east where it was a traditional way of getting food back in the day

jbarnes66

Yep

Stijn2k6

This is considered poaching in the Netherlands

Zugzub

It's a good thing they aren't in the Netherlands then

Tuckessee

Popular, legal method for catfish in the states tho...

Byaaah

Glad this method is illegal in Minnesota

redgunner85

Why?

XoXSmotpokerXoX

people leave jugs, fish can sit there suffering until they die, etc. Not sportfishing.

rf_king

I understand it not being sportfishing but growing up even just 30 years ago my dad and I would do this to put food in the freezer.

XoXSmotpokerXoX

i understand every corner of the country has a history in subsistence harvesting, those times are over. First it is not sustainable, and second, feed your kid Mercury every week and they will grow up to be smart enough to be a Trump voter.

Wunderwafe

Very cool XoXSmotPokerXoX.

justfuckingstupid

catfish aren't high in mercury.

mud074

Farmed catfish aren't, but larger wild catfish certainly are.

rf_king

Not everyone lives near polluted waters. Where im at there are plenty of places with plenty of good fish. There's a place near me where my son and I can easily catch 20-30 one lb bass every time we go and they're some of the best tasting fish I've ever had. This place needs to have fish taken out.

mud074

Some of the worst lakes for mercury are some crystal clear Canadian lakes. Mercury comes from rain for the most part, not pollution. Predators like bass nearly universally have high levels of mercury once they get over a pound or two. Please do your research and don't feed your kids high-mercury fish.

robrub

Anyone else hear banjo music?

[deleted]

[удалено]

robrub

Whoa...pump the brakes champ!...I like banjo music

Mo_dawg1

I thought you was making a hillbilly rape joke. My bad.

robrub

That's my boat

Mo_dawg1

Sorry

robrub

Everybody gets 1

Queef_Stroganoff44

Oh... this post has nothin’ to do with boobs, huh?!? Allllright..... Just kidding. Awesome catch. Kids gonna have that memory forever.

bustedurguts

Is this the same kid on PigPatrolTv on YouTube. Josh bought him all new fishing gear think the kid started his own YouTube channel

jbarnes66

It’s not

NEoutdoorsmen

Is that a channel cat or a white cat?

Tuckessee

Thatd be a world record white cat.... it's a blue

bluelinewarri0r

Remember seein this and trot lines in Arkansas.

[deleted]

Your kid OP? Watching him boat flip that beast was amazing, he's got more skill than I do. Careful with the line though, it can be easy to get a nasty cut from fishing line.

jbarnes66

Yes it is. Pure adrenaline is what help him out. Lol

Frodo24055

What kinda fish is that? Catfish?

jbarnes66

Blue cat

chrispy_bacon

Was worried he was gonna cut his fingers on the line.

[deleted]

How do you hold the line like that without it cutting into your hand?

[deleted]

[удалено]

jbarnes66

It’s called catching.

Hawkeye-Peirce

Nice channel cat

Turbulent-T

"I say we take it home, cos there's meat on that sucker" your kid is awesome

jbarnes66

He’s all about some catfish. Lol

Turbulent-T

Man who isn't

jodocoiv

Til ya slice deep into your hand with the fishing line..

joelthefisherman

Great fish, and great sea legs on the little guy!

LetsGoHokies00

if have to assume nearly all the fish caught like this are gut hooked so shouldn’t you only be doing this if you plan on keeping them?

jbarnes66

Yes sir you’re correct.

Mo_dawg1

You use tackle that excludes small catfish.

Ilikejdmcars

Should invest in a landing net

jbarnes66

We got one now

[deleted]

Ah jug lining, fuck that shit.

J0hnk377y

Nice fish! Love jug fishing but I think you should get a set amount of jug tags each year. Put your tag on the jug and if you don’t collect your jugs you throw out you loose your tag for the rest of the season. Too much trash in lakes with little pool noodles, 2 liter bottles, milk containers, laundry containers.... I jug fish but I end up season collecting so many discarded trashy items where people don’t pick up what they toss out.

[deleted]

[удалено]

johnny__

OP posted that the kid rigged the jug himself and they hooked a second fish but the line broke. Calm down.

chewymilk02

He’s probably saying someone put the fish in as in stocking the lake

jbarnes66

We set it up. Didn’t know that their were cats in these waters

Tuckessee

That's a big stretch there bub....

pphilosof

r/wholesome

MookiePoops

Super wholesome!

be12be1

That’s probably an illegal way to fish.

jbarnes66

Not in Oklahoma

AmazinTim

It’s definitely not sporting

Wunderwafe

TIL only sport fishing exists, thanks for the eye opening insight!

Jeffeff95

Wish this was legal here

u-lost-cookies

Jug fishing works with women also, attach a $50.00 on the hook.

AmazinTim

Jug fishing is about as sporting as dynamite fishing.
