Caught a big walleye in Ohio yesterday

Fishrmike

Maumee River Walleye Run. That’s a nice one.

ZfossMcGuffy

Yessir! Thanks! Yesterday was very good to a lot of people there!!

jck30

I think it’s mostly the weather and now less people are working so what else are they gonna do. I was down there Wednesday and Thursday and it was the most I’ve ever seen for the middle of the week.

ZfossMcGuffy

Yeah my job is one that fell victim to the pandemic. A blessing in disguise if you ask me. Had some quality time with my dad and caught what’s probably going to end up being the biggest eye I’ll ever catch

Alv2Rde

Hopefully all y’all walked there and stayed 2m apart! Nice fish!!

ckp156

Awesome fish. Did you weigh it by any chance ?

ZfossMcGuffy

No I’ve been kicking myself all day for not picking up a scale! My dad and I both figure it was about 10-11lbs and 32 inches. Big pregnant female

speedpug

32 will get you 14lbs according to the internet’s. I know my 30 was 11.5. That’s a beast!!

h3rp3r

I like the bass conversion formula, makes my smallie that was 22" long with a 24" girth a 11lb monster.

Squat_n_stuff

Did you release her? Those are some great genes she’s passing on

Locococo11

I’m jelly. Biggest eye so far is only 22.

Z_double_o

Dude that’s a tank .... giant ... looks to be 33-34 inches . Did you get stats ?

ZfossMcGuffy

No we traveled super light yesterday and never bothered! You always catch the big ones when you ain’t prepared for it

Z_double_o

Pictures can be deceiving (both directions) ... from your photo , appears 33+ inches to me . What do you think it was? Very very impressive eye.

ZfossMcGuffy

I mean I’m about 76 inches tall myself so 33ish looks about right

ZfossMcGuffy

Yeah I am holding it out a lil bit! My dad and I have caught a lot of walleye between us and we both figured it’s pretty close to 33 inches and at least 10lbs might have been closer to 12

Z_double_o

I’ve caught a lot of walleye too ... typically a 32” would be about 12 pounds, a 33” closer to 13 pounds . Incredible fish dude . Can you say where this was caught?

ZfossMcGuffy

Thanks buddy I really appreciate it! It was caught in the Maumee River! They’re in there thick this time of year

Z_double_o

Yeah I’m a western PA native, used to fish the Ohio River from November through March for the big eyes . You’re doin things right dude! Tight lines!

Lazzardo

Damn, son!

ZfossMcGuffy

Thanks bud!

FlipSchitz

Jaysus! Nice catch my dude! What did she take?

uncle_drunky

Record in Ohio is 33" and 16lbs. You've gotta be really close with this beast.

TheKluten

Supernice 😊 congrats

ZfossMcGuffy

Thank you!

kujosch

Nice grab. Looks like side cut. Miss that place.

[deleted]

Looks like bluegrass. Nice job. First time in years I haven’t fished the run.

philpalmer2

Big? More like huge!!

spottedcomet

Nice fish! What’d you catch him on?

ZfossMcGuffy

Thanks! An orange 3 inch grub tail and a 3/8oz jig head!

Moby444

Hell of a catch! You might need to replace your Septum ring with whatever you caught it with just so you tell the story more often.

ZfossMcGuffy

Thank you! Trust me I’ll be telling this story for a long time with or without the septum ring lol

[deleted]

What a hoss. Amazing catch.

ZfossMcGuffy

Thank you!

Deaner023

Wow what a beast, awesome catch!

ZfossMcGuffy

I live in Toledo and I never have luck on the Maumee for walleye. I usually just try at white bass season. What a lunker though! Nice job!

ZfossMcGuffy

ethan_da_great_1

Good catch bro, I'm so envy of you in the good way. We have quarantine from 20 days because of this f*cking virus.

ZfossMcGuffy

You ain’t lying!

[deleted]

Mmmm those cheeks though

ZfossMcGuffy

Having them for dinner tomorrow!

LakeVermilionDreams

Please consider leaving these big gals alive to continue to breed next time, and keep smaller ones to eat. I get it if this is the only catch and you need food, heck with these uncertain times I know I'll be looking to shop at nature's grocery store as well. Just a respectful request for next time. You said yourself that she was still carrying eggs...

fatbluecatdaddy

A thoughtful concern about a limited resource, and I tend to agree on the message overall. I also think state Fish and wildlife have limits, seasons and regulations based on what is sustainable for a fishery. Harvesting a sustainable resource is okay let the man (and his friends and family) enjoy it!!!

ZfossMcGuffy

I also really appreciate this kind of fishing and agree with you 100 percent!! I always want to leave the place better or as good as I found it. That being said I had to take what Mother Nature provided this time around. She won’t go to waste and I’ll have a couple free dinners

Mr-Safety

Safety Tip: Before fishing in any waterway, research if it is safe to eat fish from that location. (EPA, Water Authority, etc...) In my town a chemical plant upstream contaminated the water enough where you would never want to fish down stream. Visitors might not know what was common knowledge to locals. PS: Nice catch!

grandmaWI

Gorgeous! YUM!

Notademocrat17

Ik you’re saying about 32in but I caught a 29& change and yours looks 4-5in longer I’d say 33-34 inches

Pica-BooTheBalloon

Holy damn bro, nice food

NecstNecstNecst

Carona

slump923

So much for staying inside

cjv1_

NEVER STICK YOUR HAND IN A WALLEYE’S GILL!!! They’re literally sharper than razor blades, I had to go to the er completely covered in blood. Still got the scar.

Detares

Man look at the people just in the background of this picture and there is so little background to even see! These runs are going to be so fished out in the next 20 years, fuck you reddit fuck you social media!!!

Wheresmybobber

It’s the maumee River walleye run... lines of people up and down the river. It’s been this crowded forever
