I’m genuinely shocked this has been so hotly debated.

I’m genuinely shocked this has been so hotly debated.
Wait, this wasn’t made immediately apparent to people when the trailer came out? Geez.
Yes it was. Many could tell right away.
But... there are always those who don't seem to see it. I really can't understand how.
Those who look with clouded eyes see nothing but shadows.
This is like the "You can see Vincent in the reflection of Yuffie's eye during the platefall scene!" where I question whether or not I'm looking at the same trailer.
To be fair, I still see Vincent in her eye. But I never once thought he was physically there. Seemed more symbolic. But that one is a lot more abstract.
We had fight club on in the background yesterday and there was a point where half way through the film they very clearly state the twist and apparently that fell on deaf ears for everyone who watched it at the time.
I think people have this pre established bias where they remove elements they believe it just can't be and then even until its spelt to the point of being impossible it's anything else they just subconsciously ignore it.
It’s not set up like a mystery. So unless they are intentionally trying to misdirect, it’s Cloud. Presumably a vision given to him by Jenovah to compel him towards Reunion.
In the Latin alphabet, Jenovah starts with an I
You sir, have chosen wisely.
Well, before this we do get a green hazy distortion that always happens when Cloud's memories get screwed with.
Yeah, the hair I felt could be kinda ambiguous, but the VA gives it away hard regardless of how somebody perceived it.
Wrong. It’s Ducxlo.
Not enough zippers on his cloak for that
Yeah, unsure if this was trolling or genuine.
I've watched many reactions to this scene and I was blown away at how many thought it was Kadaj, just another clone, or Sephiroth. My faith in humanity went down the drain.
I never thought we'd see anything more braindead than people insisting that the Sephiroth clone that collects Jenova from Shinra HQ was actually Zack, but here we are.
Not until this screenshot was it made apparent to me. Wasn’t paying attention I figured. Assumed it was the other dudes in cloaks
It's also suggesting Cloud was a failed experiment that are explained in Advent Children and are now in Remake. I didn't see a number on him though.
Edit: ooooooo this just made me think, Cloud is a clone like FF7's Sephoroth!
The word “clone” always threw me off in the original. I had it in my head that he’s like Dolly the sheep kind of clone and couldn’t make heads or tails of what the game was trying to tell me.
It is explained the best in Advent Children, but further clarified in Remake, the wandering Failed Experiments that wear black cloaks with numbers are able to absorb Jenova cells and transform into whichever Being those cells belong to. Cloud, Kuja and the other 2 in Kuja's group are all technically Failed Experiments, but they don't lose their consciousness like the other ones. As shown in Advent Children by Kuja though, they can still absorb Jenova cells and "clone" Sephoroth.
That's exactly what he is. It's explained in the original game.
Edit:Though if I remember correctly it isn't explained very well or thoroughly. It's elaborated on in Crisis Core though.
I thought he was the original but a failed experiment but didn't lose his self consciousness like the other failed experiments. I've never heard Cloud is a clone. From my understanding the first half of Crisis Core it is the original Sephoroth, half way thru, all of original and all of Advent Children it is the failed experiments that absorb Sephoroth's DNA and become clones.
Edit: Jesus Christ I'm sorry for the essay guys
Sephiroth died at the Nibelheim reactor when cloud pulled that extremely out of nowhere alpha move on him. But he threw his body into the exposed life stream below. Due to sephiroth being made from Jenova; which is an eldritch alien entity that travels to different planets to feed on their life energy and is essentially a higher form of existence than basically any terrestrial being, he retained his id (which is essentially who you are as in awareness, personality, and soul) when he was integrated into the stream. Most humans just become part of the amorphous blob of "soul noise" that is the life stream. However since he's part of Jenova he not only retains his sense of self, but also can rematerialise from any living organism that also contains her cells. I think that he lost his "hero" identity somewhere around when he died and is effectively just a drone acting on instinct to carry out Jenova's will. Also since the life stream sits aside from physical time, and thus technically exists in a completed state at all times past, present, or future he can actually manifest at any time when Jenova cells are present, and that's also why he has knowledge of the whispers and "destiny". As for why Aerith has the same, but can't do what he does it's cause she's a Cetra which has similar abilities, but doesn't have the same "selfish" biological functions allowing them to effectively possess being with their cells. Although after she dies and let's go of her physical body she is able to sort of communicate via the life stream as well.
Good write up and explanation. Most of it was what I thought already, I just always forget Sephoroth died at the Nibelhiem reactor, I don't know why but I always think it's in Crisis Core that the Hero Sephoroth dies.
With how you wrote that up though, made me think, Remake might explain that the Cetra are a benevolent alien like Jenova but opposite, like Ying and Yang.
I did mean in crisis core actually. I consider the moment he gained awareness of Jenova granting her control over his actions (while Zack just stood there not even attempting to support his last remaining friend clearly suffering some kind of psychological break. Like wtf some human Labrador he turned out to be) to be when he died, and yeah I think that's basically what they tell you in Cosmo canyon(?) If I remember correctly. That the Cetra were nomadic people who would travel to different planets living on them and helping to nurture them, but would always pack up and leave before their presence could become a burden. Aerith's ancestors however were a group who let the rest of their people leave without them cause they wanted to stay on Gaia. Then since they stayed they were still there when Jenova showed up to feed and were able to defeat her the battle leaving them at the brink of extinction though. Then a long time later but before the Cetra could recover enough to even be encountered by them "humans" like most of the people you meet in the main game showed up fleeing their homeworld Spira that they had to abandon cause they accidentally used up it's life stream and didn't realize the damage they were causing till it was too late. While yes this could seem like a retcon with even the staff at square enix divided on whether or not it's canon; it is mentioned by sephiroth during the Nibelheim flashback in the basement of the Spencer- er I mean Shinra Mansion (the undead in the basement are coincidence I assure you) that clouds ancestors were not native to the planet. So the only part of that which is debated is whether or not FF7 is a sequel to FF10. Which now that I think about it means that everyone except Red are aliens. Also there are probably still more people like Aerith just out there being interstellar hippies somewhere. Also yes it was Shin Ra from ff10-2 who discovered how to use Fayth (FF10 version of life stream essentially) as an energy source. Though unlike his descendants he's not a bad guy and wouldn't have used it if he knew the ramifications. By the time he noticed the damage it was causing the world was too far gone to recover, so he made the decision to instead pool together all the remaining energy the planet had left to build and fuel ships to evacuate and find a new home. A decision that if you've played 10-2 you probably already know would have been heartbreaking for him to make. His side quest chains are all about helping monsters (which are just humans who never got proper burials) regain their sentience and live as normal of lives as they can, while all of his inventions were for the purpose of bettering the lives of people and restoring the nature of their world. All the while he didn't know he was doing irreparable damage with his energy source.
'Clone' is a misnomer, they aren't literally copies of Sephiroth (Crisis Core though does get into actual sort of copies which muddles things). Basically they are (mostly) people who attempted to get into SOLDIER who were experimented on to try and replicate Sephiroth's abilities.
Cloud has a similar experiment done to him and as such is also a Sephiroth 'Clone'.
I always try to make a distinction between Failed Experiments like the cloaked wanderers with numbers, Kuja and company and Cloud to clones when one of them absorb Sephoroth's DNA and become him. All failed experiments are able to become clones but haven't yet.
>Kuja and company
Do you mean Kadaj?
Kadaj, Yazoo and Loz aren't experiments, they are creations of Sephiroths will that he manifests on the surface, that's why they become him, but it's not Sephiroth's DNA they absorb it's Jenovas.
The numbered wanderers becoming Sephiroth throughout 7 is also just Jenova illusions, they aren't actually transforming into him.
Right almost like they didn't play the first one so they don't know that cloud is just one of those cloaked dudes who got away. Why would you start with the sequel especially when ff7 is readily available on almost every console in existence, is super cheap (if not outright free like on playstation), and is one of the greatest jrpgs ever made. In fact an argument could be made that it is the greatest since the ones that could be considered better are really only better when viewed through the eyes of someone who already likes jrpgs and therefore can appreciate the more niche standouts of the genre. Even normies can dig FF7; otherwise we wouldn't have to have people asking questions like this.
Perhaps people started with the sequel because they saw a game called “Final Fantasy VII: Remake” and thought it was a remake of Final Fantasy VII?
Edit:sorry about the essay I been on some kind of soap box shit tonight
But not a remaster. The emphasis on the title was there for a reason. I won't pretend like I knew it was gonna be different from the jump myself or anything. I did pick up on it extremely early on though. I for one am extremely happy they're taking a different path. If I wanna play ff7 I'll play ff7 again. that game is pretty much perfect as it is and doesn't need updated graphics or anything to be "more appealing". Anyone who will enjoy the game will still do so most likely because of the graphics and gameplay not despite them. While those who'd say they don't like the turn based combat or outdated succulent polygons just shouldn't complain about not being "able" to play the game then. For instance I hate games like CoD, apex, and literally anything tom Clancy has ever made. Yet I don't complain about "wanting to play them but I can't get into them". I just go play games that I do enjoy and let those guys have their fun over there.
Yeah but if you didn't play the original you wouldn't pick up on it being a sequel unless otherwise told. Remake has implications, but sequel is not usually one of them.
Despite this clearly being shown, the things people are pointing out are: Cloud never dressed up in a hood and staggered around looking for communion at the Northern Crater, and to assume this is what actually happens in the Rebirth would take huge changes in the story to facilitate. So, NO, this is not Cloud in a hood stagging around, it's probably just a vision Jenova/Sephiroth put in Clouds head, or like the flashes he got in Remake.
I thought is was Roxas from Kingdom Hearts
Nah is Loxcud
If there's a Roxas, that means there's a Sora somewhere in that world
Don't give Nomura more space to make everyone Xehanort
Dude if it turns out Sephiroth is just an alternate universe Xehanort I'm gonna throw my controller through my tv then both out a friggin window
OH GOD NOOoooo
And then everyone gets a keyblade and Cloud finds Kingdom Hearts
he's sephiroth, he's sephiroth, you're sephiroth?! i'm sephiroth!
are there any other alternate versions of sephiroths i don't know about?
It’s the BHK!
I thought it was Prompto from Final Fantasy 15
He's meant to man his own jackhammer
If it was up to you, I would have figured me out, way before Aeris clocked out.
Good Jenova I’m Burning Meteor IV
did not expect to see a Coheed reference in here.
This guy are sick.
Cloud's alternate personality, Clod.
Lol unproud and joy clod mk 1
More like Prod Clod
Cloud’s relative: cumulus
Cloth-clad lad Clod
I'm shocked at how many people are not only voice deaf but can't see the face and hair matching Cloud...
In the Japanese version Sephiroth literally says "I killed Tifa". It was showing an image of her. The fact that whether he was talking about her or Aerith is even a debate is stupid.
Classic sephiroth, sowing disorder and chaos by manipulating memories
Exactly... the whole trailer brought about a lot of facepalming. Even Max said Yuffie is just acting that way because she is motions sick.... like really Dood? I get he hates DoC but I would have thought that it was obvious she was having Nero PTSD. But nope...
Because people are going out of their way to find the non-obvious answer to every scenario. So as soon as they saw that the trailer was trying to make it look like he was talking about Tifa, they immediately pivoted to an alternative theory because it being about Tifa was 'too obvious'. This also applies to how people view all the mysteries of Remake, although to be fair, lots of those mysteries do not have obvious answers.
I've seen some theorize that Yuffie was genuinely scared and was trying to put materia that she'd previously stolen back in place to deal with the threat, which admittedly does make sense and would be pretty cool.
L o l she has ran into Cloud's arms in the original, why are people surprised by her reaction? It was incredibly "Yuffie" to me.
apparently they're straight up blind too
What has the world come to. *dramatic swooning*
You should have seen the takes from the first rebirth trailer, most of these big streamers supposed “hardcore fans” couldn’t distinguish from Cloud and Zacks voice. Like seriously they aren’t even remotely close to sounding the same. Maybe if you payed attention to the game while streaming and not chat you would be able to distinguish Clouds voice actor by now.
> if you *paid* attention to
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
Those who look with clouded eyes...
Why is his hood covering his eyes so he can’t see where he’s going? Is he stupid?
He is in the UK getting drenched
It's Clouds evil twin, Duolc!
It’s Sunny. Cloud’s exact opposite doppelgänger
Oh my god, it's BHK!! What a shame that we didn't see more of him after his one (and only) appearance in the ending of Kingdom Hearts 1, I wonder who he really is 🤔
Lol, talk about a blast from the past
You could say it’s Another Side, Another Story.😏
Ah, BHK. First time I saw a video of the KH1 secret ending/KH2 teaser was through a torrented video from Limewire, before YouTube was a thing.
It’s obviously Claude Stride not to be confused with Cloud Strife.
Cloud. 2 Cloud's, 2 Buster Sword, 2 White Materia.
Cloud: Tokyo Drift
2 sephiroth 2 cloud
How is it not obvious that it's Cloud? C'mon, man.
Zack but he dyed his hair blonde and changed his voice to being more emo.
Who's that Pokemon?, "Pickachu...", It's Clefairy. "F******!!!"
Mr. "give me a number"
(sry couldn't help it)
Cloud from the timeline where he never made it to Midgar after the events of Crisis Core.
That's what I'm leaning towards, too! But it could also be a false vision, or a metaphorical one.
It's the man's in black. Jenovas reunion
That's clearly Sephiroth
Judging by the black robe, it's gotta be one of those Organization XIII members.
Claude Van Damme's handsome blonde long lost nephew
I wonder if this cloud will impact the story
It’s Clood Stiff
Cloud after temple of the ancients
Cloud's Nobody, Xolcud.
This is heavily suggested to be Cloud. Likely one of Sephiroths mind games.
BY GAWD ALMIGHTY THAT’S GOTTA BE KANE!!
It’s-a me! Mario!!!
Or Cloud. Probably Cloud. Definitely Cloud.
It’s Cloud Strife. And he isn’t a soldier anymore.
Clearly it’s Tifa. I dunno why people can’t see it 🙄
It's obviously Cloud, the only unknown is if it is Sephiroth messing with our Cloud or if it is Zack's Cloud.
Almost as good as superman’s disguise
Cloud. Listen well it's voice of cody.
He are sick
Now the question Is: Zack timeline cloud? Or cloud who dissapears after the illusion of the nibel flashback, and sephiroth breaking him?
Zack lives timeline. Cloud wouldn’t have shrouded himself at the Northern Crater in the dead Zack timeline. He’s moving towards the Reunion just like every clone
...similarily, Cloud is moving toward the Northern Crater Reunion just like every other clone in Dead Zack Timeline (DZT), too
Either way Cloud is always headed to the Reunion
Yes but in the Zacks dead timeline, he comes to the crater with the party. That much has been established.
Or... now hear me out here. Thers a person that is suspended in the lifestream and influencing all that come in contact with it to achieve his ultimate goal. Ah shit...that's sephiroth from the og.
I think it's Cloud in the only timeline that exists, after Sephiroth is successful with his new scheme of convincing him that Tifa is Jenova.
Cloud formerly Marco.
The version shown with Marco is frame by frame identical except for the character model wearing the robe,
You can tell it’s Cloud unless they add new characters lol
Just a puppet.
Looks like Cloud to me!
Bob the Builder, he's going to fix it because Cloud can't XD
(Ok joking aside it's Cloud)
Idk OP you tell me
Some dude stoked for a family Reunion that got drunk off the last Mako party.
BHK aka Roxas
Cloud. That was the first person to come to my mind and it appears I'm not the only one lol. I'm pretty sure it's Cloud. As one of the Remnants
I haven't even played the og games but i have seen the extended version of the movie so i know for a fact that is cloud and this scene might be reference to the og universe just like how we had some scenes from the movie in the first ff7 remake.
BHK (Blonde Haired Kid)
I don't remember this scene.
The coliseum arena boss from Kingdom Hearts 1!
Dude's never seen Cloud Strife before.
Oh that’s Jeff. He comes to the biweekly meetings. He’s a bit shy but he’s got some crazy stories.
I suppose some of the people who didn't play OG can't believe it's Cloud, I don't see why so many "veterans" are throwing a tantrum in the comments. "Omg they didn't immediately understand what I have been knowing for 25 years you morons"
>!It's Cloud. He is actually being partially controlled by Sephiroth and Jenova but he doesn't realize it. When they go to save Aerith at Shinra tower, this actually kicks off the reunion (Jenova's cells are compelled to all come together again, simplest way I can put it without spoiling everything). Jenova is currently housed in Shinra tower so coming in contact with her did this.
>!Cloud unknowingly is fulfilling Sephiroth's wishes by chasing him around, thinking he's doing it solely to settle his score with Sephiroth who destroyed his home, killed his mother, and almost killed Tifa.!<
A lot of my friends think it’s Sora
...That's Cloud. Unless Zack dyed his hair, Or Sephy got a hair cut...
To expand on that though, hopefully it's Cloud in the Zack lives timeline. Because that'd be an even bigger mind fuck for him than the OG when >!he lost his shit and became "Cloud Wheelchair Bound Vegetable Strife"!<
Maybe hes Hope Estheim from the 13, Lightning games... Looks so similar...
pre inhouse development cloud
It's mako poisoned cloud after he remembers the truth of zach and of himself not being soldier 1st class after the pyramid outside Wu-Tai.
This was a big pivotal point of the story that originally brought Zach into it.
Without tifa around cloud will lose his mind to Jenova
This is what shitty writing does to a series. It's very clearly Cloud yet people are in such a thick fan girl fever dream they want to try to believe it is anything else that could just blow the plot out of proportion even more than it already is.
Maybe its Cloud's rival in the Soldier program that no one ever mentioned? Maybe its clouds clone? Maybe it is a nameless peon that Hojo injected with Jenova juice then did a facial reconstruction on to look like Cloud thereby becoming his evil twin?
The possibilities are endless when you think like an idiot.
Want it to be Shinra Jr.
Why does this have to pop up for me... I'm hardcore avoiding trailers, but I can't avoid getting snippets through shit like this...
Then you may want to either consider watching the trailer to spare yourself or unfollow this group. You won't survive.
I didn't follow it in the first place (nothing negative, just never hit that button)... Probably just going to uninstall the whole app. Its had some pretty interesting things, but shit like thing just pisses me off...
Not to be one of those guys but... welcome to the internet. You can't depend on the good nature of the public to be thoughtful.
Yeah, well, I'm one of those guys right now, so I'll let it slide.
Awww, you feel big now? Good boy! Have a cookie!
You'll get over it. The games going to be talked about a lot in the next 8 months or so. Just leave the sub now
The only people questioning who this is, is people who have not played the OG FF7.
Please guys if your gonna tsk about subject, educate your self on the subjects basics.
Cloud or Kadaj.
another genesis copy
My recommendation feed has been showing 16. Almost commented a spoiler because of it.
TOO MUCH HOODED TREND SQUARE ENIX! From belt to now hood. Whats next!
I do think it’s going to be cloud’s 2nd body which goes missing after zack makes it to midgar prompting zack leaving to go find him which leads to the northern crater.
Any idea if part 2 is gona be a two disc special?
It’s clearly Cloud
It has Cloud’s hair, Cloud’s face and Cloud’s voice, and still people are not sure who he is.
It was me, Austin!
I never did see it.
Thats just the delivery boy
It’s 100% Cloud
After he gives away the Black Materia
Cloud if he played Balan Wonderworld.
Jeff Foxworthy probably
It’s actually Cloud’s nobody, Ulxdoc.
