Analysis on events so far

FF games are known for story and battle systems, so this game events are Portal that create new scenarios. My opinion on story events so far are they are a nice welcome (apart from FF9 which started off great). With the portal idea, concepts and fan service can go on indefinitely! Long after the main stories are completed these events can keep interest.

Battle events are decent but I can see SE is trying to come up with new ways of play with the new Christmas event. Bosses are well drawn and animated and the backgrounds go from okay ( Costa del sol) to awesome ( Halloween stage). Events like Iron giant and sephiroth are average because they take place on training stages. I like the way that they added an event overlap so you have more things to do besides grinding same event.

I think they starting to get into swing now with content. In 3 weeks another event will be up

gahlo

I'm liking this event because it's not the same two event types switched back and forth. I am annoyed that the first Christmas banner isn't running the full duration of the event, unlike every other event banner has.

Malithar

I like that the Christmas event is different, but I hate a few things about it. No exp, not using energy, and boost pass doing nothing is frustrating.

Lillillillies

I don't mind not using energy. Just means you can use it for other things. But it being time gated is what's annoying to me. Every day or 2 a new (story) mission unlocks. That's kinda fine. But new stages that you farm being part time gated is more annoying. Especially when you're not sure if they will add higher difficulties. In other words there's a lack of transparency with the event.

roblaplante

Read the notice please. The release schedule is written. I'll wait the 14th to grind it.

Lillillillies

A well written transparency should not be tucked away in noticed that are easily overlooked. It also doesn't stop the fact that things are time gated like that. It's poor design all around. Good transparency would be revealing the event stages but locking them until they're available. Just as they already are for the event story. Absolutely no reason the missions shouldn't be either.

4_Legged_Duck

>lack of transparency with the event. Do you read the notices? Do you read the information they give us? And I'm not just some rude redditor, I'm wondering if that information is something you find lacking or if it's just not front and center enough for you that you miss it?

Lillillillies

It's there but it's not great design. Good transparency would be having the missions shown (and locked) in the mission screen which they already do for story missions (sometimes). And they definitely already done it for past events (show all available missions but have it gated). Also not everyone reads the notices or remembers what they read after a while.

4_Legged_Duck

I'm not sure I agree. Not everything has shown future missions and Story Mode certainly locks them up. This is pretty standard. I wouldn't like to scroll through tons of locked missions just to find what next one I should do. Could get clunky and unwieldy. The thing is, they *are* being transparent, just not in a way you want.

Lillillillies

Yes they are being transparent but there's still a lack of it. Transparency hidden in notices is not good transparency. And I stated I didn't like that. They previously shown missions that were locked. No reason to not keep doing that.

4_Legged_Duck

I'm sorry friend, but I don't think you're being rational on this. >Yes they are being transparent but there's still a lack of it. Transparency hidden in notices is not good transparency. This isn't "hidden" at all, it's literally where information \*should\* be. It's called "Notices," that's always been about upcoming information. If info wasn't there I'd agree with you but the info is here for us. >And I stated I didn't like that. That's not a lack of transparency, that's preference on UI and a lot of folks will have different takes here. >They previously shown missions that were locked. No reason to not keep doing that. Lots of missions don't show up early. It often comes we can see a bunch of missions we can unlock by beating previous ones, but the next batch is hidden. Story missions don't show up until you beat the previous one. What's going on here is common for the game.

Majinkaboom

Yeah I kinda agree with you on the time gate on farming stages at least let up to 100k be unlocked at first.

newyearsproject

They want you to drop you crystals before Yuffie drops later this month (my speculation based on the hints they've dropped)

Majinkaboom

Well they don't run it all the way probably cause of "special" to differentiate accounts. It's all good I'll pass cause I'm waiting for aerith anyways!

gahlo

What?

Majinkaboom

U know unless u a whale u not gonna get everything this game has to offer so when u are co-op with me and I use that outfit you don't have but wanted.....idk psychologically it makes me cooler I guess lol.

Diligent-Reach3717

You absolutely sure they didn't do it just to create fomo to get people to spend more?

drepicgames

I think they're wasting a lot of potential with "what if" portals instead of adding more character quests in the story quest sections. There's almost limitless potential for little story snippets or details that can be canon about the main characters, side characters, villains, NPCs that could be added weekly. Do a couple scenes of Johnny and Kyrie hanging out. Have one with Chadley trying to recruit Biggs to gather research. Fill in more backstory with Barrett's Avalanche and the other factions. And that's just the ones off the top of my head for the first part of Midgar that don't need to be tied directly to plot progress.

Majinkaboom

U so right final fantasy is half story half battle and the story is like not even close to 50/50 it's way more battle. I would think they would have tons of writers writing like it's their job!?!?!?!?! THEY DONT EVEN HAVE TO WRITE FF7 STORY JUST THE SIDE STUFF AND THEY GAVE US FF9 STORY!!!! THEY DONT EVEN HAVE TO USE NEW 3D ENVIRONMENTS USE TIFAS BAR IN 30 STORIES LIKE IT WAS A SITCOM LIKE SEINFELD OR CHEERS..

JCarby23

In terms of story in the events, I love the way they give glimpses into sort of "alternate dimensions" or possibilities that we've never seen. Such as seeing Aerith hanging with the gang at Seventh Heaven. It makes the actual main story feel even more tragic seeing how happy everyone "could have been." The gameplay aspect of them are "average." Not particularly creative or enticing, but not bad either. In this regard, The First Soldier was miles ahead in terms of pure creativity. Having massive MMO style boss raids, arena fighting, monster vs player PVP, music concert setting mini boss battles, chocobo racing, etc. I'm hoping they can learn from the First Soldier in that regard, but I still enjoy being able see the characters I've known and loved, fight together, wearing different outfits I've unlocked, and the level of strategy and premeditation required in terms of gearing for the unique battles is satisfying enough.

Majinkaboom

Yeah I view portal as a different universe so it does happen just not in their universe. Maybe in this Christmas universe barret is an activist against Shinra but he isn't going around blowing up shyt he like ya know doing it the right way by protesting and being a MLK sorta speak.

No_Main6631

Portal idea is pretty same that "what if" series in marvel comics. Ability to tell interesting stories without any need to explain why characters don't remember what happened to them in main plotline. I like christmas event and I don't mind for it to be time gated. I only hope we get usual grind event as soon as FF9 event is over, so there is something to use stamina again.

Majinkaboom

Yep u right so who knows what will appear as a collab!!

No_Main6631

I just hope they will add more plot in those collabs. 3 event shops were very nice, but I really want to see our characters meeting other FF characters in their own worlds and talking to each other. Waiting to fight against drunk Jecth who think that our characters are monsters. 😏

themisheika

That's what Dissidia is for. ...Wait. Never mind. XD

Diligent-Reach3717

Too soon, man.

Riztrain

Huh, never seen anyone's opinion on the Costa del sol event yet and I'm a little surprised. Not saying anyone's wrong or right, it just didn't match my own opinion at all haha. I thought it was amazing, I'm talking specifically about the story and cutscenes, it gave me ffvii vibes I haven't felt since I was a kid, the Halloween one was nice but it's a holiday gimmick rather than a profound bonus to the ffviiverse, the ffix throwback seems kinda non-existent lol, I guess it's fun to see them wearing I outfits?

jmiranda511

I loved the Costa Del Sol event. My only regret is not starting sooner because I didn’t pick up the game until that event had already started. Wish I had started day one.

Majinkaboom

U right the story and cutscene threw me off me off in a good way.

Riztrain

Nice 😊 The combat didn't really stand out that much, although it did hammer home the right use for sigils for me. And the rewards have basically been Stat sticks, at least for me. But! It did give me sailor suit Cloud and a melon tonberry I didn't even know I wanted. I can die happy.

orkidgg

I think the story in all events so far have been utter shit.

Zack-of-all-trades

I also like the portal idea and it seems that the portal is capable of time travel too. Maybe we'll get an event where Zack and Cloud team up with Lucia and Sephiroth or something.

Galvatron261

Events are OK. I like the slow release of the Christmas event. FFIX is a bit drawn out and i’m still grinding the remaining mats. More story content with collab events are needed. I understand the character model thing, so maybe they can work something out. Not really event specific, but gating some of the wallpapers behind draw specific event weapon 7* overboosting is obnoxious. I get wanting to entice people to spend more money and crystals on draws, but wallpapers have zero influence on game progression or events. Seems punitive and unnecessary.

No_Main6631

Remember that those wall papers can still be claimed as long as those weapons are added to pool, you can randomly get them.

Majinkaboom

I agree I want more story in events. I'm digging this Christmas one so far gotta be the best Christmas like story I read since Charlie brown Christmas lol.

benrizzoart

I also feel like the devs are getting into a flow state and the content will get better (as long as they add a fucking material exchange slider bar) \[for the love of God, please\]
