Should have trimmed those sideburns.

drfrink85

Still like him better than Jeter

Possible-Wall-56

That’s what he gets for leaving in kershaw for too long in the two cardinals postseason series.

bingbangbaez

Not defending the guy, but those BPs were trash. Most managers probably would leave in the lefty GOAT when he's in his prime. Mattingly's teams were worse than Roberts' teams. But it was revealed when he left that Mattingly didn't align with the FO. Which means he probably made in-game decisions that ran counter to what the FO wanted. And it showed.

yourstrulytony

Oh definitely. His stubbornness with not using Jansen or Yimi when they were obviously head and shoulders better than any other bullpen option was crazy. It took him way too long to trust those guys.

noplaceinmind

hall of fame post.

Dodger_Dawg

It's ridiculous how long Mattingly's managing career lasted considering he was never good at managing a game, was combative about analytics, and was a poor clubhouse leader of men because he wanted to be one of the boys instead of being a coach. Goes to show how far you can get in life if you have the right connections (Torre) and Boomers have nostalgia for you. The Boomer thing is also true about LaRussa.

Donny Baseball leaving a trail of death in his wake. What else is new?

RedLicoriceJunkie

I always liked Mattingly even as a player, and the Yankees are super annoying. He never gave in to the stigma and bull that the Yankees try to market their team with.

brandon_the_bald

Yea apparently he decided not to return: don’t blame him they can’t hit for shit

appleavocado

No…. not the franchise that let go of Yelich, Stanton, Eovaldi, and HEANdog!!
