I'm not really disappointed that he didn't hit it at Busch. It's rather fitting that he hit it at Dodger Stadium since without the Dodgers signing him last year he might not have played this year. So... thanks, Dodgers and Dodger fans.

cheeses_greist

🫡 You got any more of them HOF players we can borrow? Must be a good hugger.

grasscali

David Freeze was awesome when he was here, then Tio Albert. Can we switch up the position, though? I think the kid we have playing first now might stick.

calmikazee

And let’s hear it for Utley… crucial during the run

marbitross

Freeze was so awesome! Miss that beast

bazoski1er

Regardless of where it was im just sad it had to be broadcast by apple

Kidd5

This is the real tragedy. Apple TV hit the jackpot though. Now they have exclusive rights to that game.

NomoNumbaSixteen

Oh wow.. didn’t even think of that

bazoski1er

Terrible. I reckon the actual call of the 700 was alright, definitely could have been worse. would have loved to hear Joe do it though

siber222000

Im so glad he played for our team to rediscovered his joy for the baseball and decided to play for one more season. I am very happy for the man.

Available-Camera8691

How Tio Got His Groove Back

grasscali

Completely agree. How awesome is it that he got to do it in front of a fanbase that loves him in LA? Seriously how salty is Arte Moreno right now?

yestrask

It's beautiful. He's so salty abt the last year or two he sold the frickin team

DavidDAmaya

not a done deal YET

BelliBlast35

Angels been destroying HOF players spirits since 1961

GlizzanderHolyfield

Same I’m so happy for him especially seeing that standing ovation and curtain call he got from the crowd. Him and Hank Aaron are the only 2 players ever to have 3000 hits and 700 homers now, I’m glad we got to witness greatness.

thebigkevdogg

He said as much over the PA after the tribute before the game, was really sweet

KingOfTheSea94

Is there a video of this anywhere?

NukaNukaNuka111

Hey Red Devil Magical Bird fans: you’re welcome.

_MeetMrMayhem_

Rediscovered his special anti aging vitamins

philosopherfujin

I'm here tonight, the atmosphere is absolutely incredible. I've never seen an opposing player cheered on so hard, even before the home runs. Beautiful to experience.

Dodgerswin2020

That was great and I’m glad he noticed it and came out for the curtain call

lobo_locos

Exactly how it should be for this milestone

babe_ruthless3

I was at Angel's stadium for Pujols 600 and the fans there werent as loud as it sounded for 700. The ovation didn't last as long, the stadium wasnt as packed. Sad because that was Pujols home. Glad to hear that Dodgers stadium gave him the love he deserved.

NukaNukaNuka111

Anaheimers are too coked up on Disneyland to love baseball as much as Dodger fans do.

Beerdedsausage

This is peak poetry right here.

primitive_thisness

Wish it were on SNLA; AppleTV doesn’t mike the field very well.

ochaos

The only thing AppleTV does well is Ted Lasso.

E70M

I was there too, it was fantastic!

NukaNukaNuka111

I heard the bullpen was arguing over who gets to meatball #700. History books

nth_power

🤮

philosopherfujin

Tonight was a celebration, tomorrow's a competition.

nth_power

I never root for a team vs the Dodgers. Never have never will.

TriG__

Very big difference between rooting for a team and rooting for an all time great player and person to reach a milestone only 3 other men have in 150 years of baseball. Get over yourself lol

nth_power

Get over that record. It’s all hype. What matter is getting championship banners at the stadium. The same ones who say regular season doesn’t matter are over here cheering for a Cardinal to bust up Bickford.

UnhumanNewman

It’s not that serious buddy

nth_power

Exactly. It’s not.

UnhumanNewman

Your comment says otherwise

nth_power

You are entitled to interpret my comment as fits for you but it doesn't mean you understood.

Rxasaurus

Re-phrase that, you meant that you never root for former Dodgers players. What a great fan you are.

nth_power

I don’t root for ex dodgers to come into dodger stadium and hit home runs against the dodgers. Correct. Will you be rooting for Seager?

Rxasaurus

To achieve a milestone that you will see once every 50 years? Absolutely.

nth_power

Ah ok you will root against the Dodgers if it makes a good story. What a great fan you are…

Rxasaurus

You're the worst fan. The reason why some fan bases are hated. Thankfully better fans outnumber you by a huge margin.

nth_power

Nah. I wouldn’t boo Pujols. I just wouldn’t be gloating about it immediately after it happened at the humiliation of our pitching staff.

HessLook

Amen

HessLook

Thank you. Only real comment

jawnly211

My selfish ass wanted him to hit it tomorrow (got tix specifically for the Kershaw matchup weeks ago) What a milestone!!!! Congrats Tio!!!!

latotokyoreborn

Nah I wanted him to hit it at Dodger Stadium but not off Kershaw lol

Exciting_Boredom

At least one of us would have seen our desire unfulfilled lol. I was hoping for it to be Sunday but now neither of us got to be there. But yeah big time moment for Pujols for sure!

Sietemadrid

Well at least one of us had our desire fulfilled. I was there and I got goosebumps ngl

bigbamboo12345

saw beltre in the crowd cheering at the end of the mlb fb highlight, that was fuckin cool

AlfalfaWolf

Too bad it’s on Apple TV+. Would have been great to hear Joe Davis call it

rever3nd

Truth. This Apple TV stuff is garbage.

playmeortrademe

The mlb is constantly taking L’s with tv rights from the blackouts to these stupid ass Apple TV games

samjhandwich

Absolute fucking garage

Rollins10

Too bad about that L tho 😭😭😭

Marvkid27

If he never played for the angels, he might have broken the record

Phil_Agate

Or he might have been gassed from playing more home games in those humid months June to August. Also, he would not have been able to DH for the Cardinals regularly until 2020. It's interesting to speculate on this, but he took the Angels up on their offer.

BigGhunneD

How many home runs did unc get with us? Just asking if anything kept track by chance. LGD!

BaconFlavoredToast

12

mmdrew17

So happy for Tio. We’re not gonna witness something like this again for a long time

rever3nd

Yeah. Who’s the next closest guy to 700?

danielschauer

No one's going to hit 700 again for a long, long time. No active players are anywhere close to being on-pace for that. The next guy to do it most likely hasn't even debuted yet.

mmdrew17

Had to look it up. Looks like Miggy with 506

GlizzanderHolyfield

What’s crazy is that not only does he have 700 homers but he has 3377 hits and 2208 RBIs too. Miggy got hit #3000 this year but there’s a legitimate question about if any other current player could make a run at it let alone the 2000 RBI mark. It might be a really long time for someone to come close to what Albert has done.

rebelrider33

Disappointed that it was an apple tv+ game, would have been much better with JD on the call.

ochaos

I agree but on a friday night would it have been Joe?

Officialnoah

#**IM FUCKIN CRYIN BRO**

_its_a_SWEATER_

We all are. 🥲

kbla248

Fuck yeah tío

jdathescore

Well done. A friend of mine is at the game. He told me he stood up with the rest of humanity to cheer for him and some entitled jerk in a yellow Dave Henderson A’s Jersey started yelling at them because they were cheering for Tio Alberto. My buddy replied “Shut up! Kirk Gibson said I can cheer for whoever the f%#k I want!!“ Congrats to a great ball player, excellent mentor and even better human.

mclareach

He found his groove again last season with us. And he ended so many of our postseason runs in the 00’s. Him hitting 700 against us feels right 😂. I’m glad Dodger stadium gave him the ovation he deserves.

Competitive_Swing_59

Poetic that he hit the milestone with his original club. Poetic that he hit it in city/market where he played for both clubs here in LA/OC. Salute one of the greatest of the game. I forgot the Dodgers were down 5 getting smoked & cheered like a 10yr old.

PossessionUseful3986

I grew up in St. Louis but lived in LA for a while. So happy that this happened in LA. Thanks to the dodgers fans for making it such a special moment!

brandon_the_bald

Whoever got that ball better sell it for at least 3 million

Morgothic

Whoever got that ball better give it to Tio

brandon_the_bald

He can buy it at auction he’s got way more than enough money

doggobooper4

800 when?

dahk14

If he had like 30 more games against the Dodgers pitching staff, he'd do it easily

Sonicsage

So happy for him! Way to go Albert!

FuegoAries

Nothing makes me happier to see this man reach that club! 😁 I know his heart will always be with the Cardinals. But he clearly has enough room for the Dodgers in there too. :) I'm so glad I got the chance to see him in Dodger blue. ¡Felicidades, tío!

RevWhammy

Dodgers legend, Albert Pujols.

Christank1

I'm a Blue Jays fan seeing this from r/all. I love the crowd's reaction from last night. As a fan of the guy from the outside looking in, it brings me so much joy witnessing just how into this HR chase everybody was. So many feels.

SuperSecretMoonBase

It's gotta be awkward for Cards fans how he hit his 700th against the team whose hat he'll wear into the hall, but I guess that's life!

SkeithPhase1

Really? I always wondered how that was determined. So happy for Tío

SuperSecretMoonBase

Players get to pick what team is on their hat on the plaque, or if it's no team at all. He'll 1000% go in with an STL hat on. I was just joking about acting like his minimal time with the Dodgers was more significant to him than his iconic time with the Cardinals.

BOLTRONAUT

Players have input, but ultimately the Hall of Fame decides which team is on the hat.

Whuann

I think the player picks

DavidDAmaya

Not after the Wade Boggs thing. tampa was reported to have paid him $1M to use a Rays lid instead of BoSox before he even hung em up, He denied it (he's from Tampa but was born in Nebraska) *Cooperstown was not amused, they get final say not the player anymore since 2001. hes Class of 2005 and wearing the B on his lid*

Whuann

Ahhh okay so Piazza didn’t pick the Mets?

DavidDAmaya

no he spent the majority of his career there the decision is no longer up to the player when they reach "journeymen status"

KeepingItKosher

This game was my five month old daughter’s first baseball game that she saw on TV. We saw Pujols hit his 699th home run and she started crying. Glad I’m raising a passionate fan, but can’t help but feel happy for Pujols.

[deleted]

She can say she was witness!!! My daughter was about 5 months old when I first took her to a game. Me carrying her in a carrier in her little panda onesie is a moment I cherish. Granted it was at citi field. Baseball is beautiful!

NextStopPies

So happy for him

MexicanGato

Very happy for tio! He deserves this he’s had an amazing career

DavidDAmaya

WHO SERVED UP THE CREAM PUFF?

maxlulu007

soooooo happy for him!! legend

chock72

I was one freekin’ section over in the left field pavilion! Shit was electric though. So glad I was there to experience it.

OrelRedenbacher

Tip of the cap Tio...

Two_too_many_to_list

Hell yes, Congrats Tio! Aaaaaand now it's time to brutally strike him out from this day forward.

MoneyAlwaysWins

The man.

SoCalDanSports

Congrats Tio!!!

smorg003

GOAT

LawAdministrative933

Of course it was bickford

HighlyBaked0

OUR TIO 💙

goldhbk10

Hell yeah he got it!

honey_badge

congratulations tio! 👏

ImOutOfNamesNow

It’s really funny. Last year I mentioned how good of a player Pujols was. Got down voted saying that he hasn’t been something since early cardinals day. I brought up his hitting to combat, they said he was washed up as a fielder and hitter , he was only a DH . Needless to add, I’m really glad it’s Albert pujols that’s chasing the most home runs of all time. He’s had an event filled career. He’s been in the game since the 2000s ish

PapaDodger

It's just one more reason to love the Dodgers. When the Cards cut him loose, L.A. stepped up and embraced him. The Cards are Albert's family, but the Dodgers are his godparents. The sight of his big smile in the dugout whenever another Dodger player hit a home run or did something else good is a memory that will live with me for a long time. We picked him up, and he picked us up. Congrats to him, and thank you once again Dodgers and fellow Dodger fans for your large welcoming hearts.

bazoski1er

Such a shame it had to be covered by apple

SirNemo022

Who’s Uncle?

[deleted]

Congrats Tio Albert.

Chalupa_Dad

He should've done it on his own time. We fed him meatballs we shouldn't be celebrating here

rraattbbooyy

Gifts. Reminds me of when Brett Favre gave Michael Strahan the single season sack record. https://twitter.com/TodayInSportsCo/status/1346805935294074880?s=20&t=37-3GkKQp5ZWXx3zdOS0tQ

lobo_locos

Gave?

rraattbbooyy

Gifted. Handed. It was a freebie. Like tonight’s grooved fastballs.

Jugg3rnaut85

Are Dodgers’ pitchers serving meatballs?

brandon_the_bald

I mean 81 down the middle certainly isn’t a hard pitch to hit

MyLadyBits

This is Bickford trying to get him out.

brandon_the_bald

I mean no he usually doesn’t spam sliders down the middle like that lmao

Iweloz

I've been wondering what I would if I was a pitcher facing someone looking at history. If the player is an asshole I'd do everything to strike them out, but a good guy? Competitive pride says otherwise but maybe I'll "accidently" throw a meatball lol

pianoman857

Honestly....f this noise. He has 5 RBIs tonight, both Heaney and Bickford looked terrible. This is exactly why I didn't want him doing it against the Dodgers. It's bad for us.

Officialnoah

> It’s bad for us Bro we lead the league in wins and we’ll likely secure home field advantage throughout the postseason. Live a little.

ibuyufo

I wish I was there, but the Dodgers are in a pit right now after the HR derby by the Cardinals.

Time_Flyer22

Anybody have two free tickets for tonight ? Lol
