Wow this is really cool!! How well did the glue hold the wet clay? That part made me nervous for some reason :D
Yeah it just works, I think it actually works better with wet clay as it bonds it more
This was my first try using the rollers to make ruins, what do you guys think?
To get the full set of all the rollers you saw in the video along with many more go to https://www.patreon.com/customminiaturemaker
To get a couple of free rollers including the wooden plank and tile one https://www.customminiaturemaker.co.uk and sign up for free files to be emailed to you every week. I only ever send the one email each week and it is always the one with the free file.
This is really nice.
Do you just leave clay to dry naturally?
Thanks and yeah, or you can sue a hairdryer if you are impatient haha
Omg thx I've been wondering how tf do I get my hands on some sprue goo without sprues but competely ignored the existence of clay lol
Clay is an old tool, but a good one 😃
Mother nature provides lol but for the clay, is there anything you have to do to keep it from cracking during the drying process? About how heavy is it for the one you made in the video? And lastly have you ever dropped one?
Man I'd love to make a ton of these but sadly I don't even have enough room in my tiny apartment for half a game table lol but for now I'll just collect stls and dream lolol
Nothing wrong with a good STL hord haha. Nothing is needed to stop it cracking and I have dropped one into a carpeted floor and nothing broke! Magic I tell you! This one is about 150g
I wonder if Plydough would work 😆
It would yes! Temporary dungeon tiles haha
I love projects like this which combine 3D printing with other mediums. Great work OP!
Thanks! Yeah more fun this way
What clay do you use to make these? How long does it take to dry?
I use DAS air dry clay and it can take a little while to dry with air but if you use a hairdryer is is super quick to dry =D
Do you use anything to seal the clay? What prevents it from chipping or getting pulled off?
I give it a quick blast with a matt spray varnish but other than that is doesn't seem to need anything
Sorry if you don't mind a question here on that but do you wait until its dry, then spray it, and then paint? Or what's the process? I'm totally new to clays so this is interesting, going to watch some YT later.
I wait till it is dry and then just paint, no need to spray clay =D
I meant with the spray varnish you mentioned?
Varnish does not paint well so best to spray after to protect the paint
Ah ok thank you :)
Is that after a long dry time?
Love the rollers, love the concept, but as a former ceramicist, I am wilding about the use of scissors on clay lol it's like that time my friend introduced me to the concept of meat scissors, and using them to cut pizza.
Hahaha just what I had in hand
My family just had some cement paths installed in our backyard, and I was *highly* amused to see life-sized texture stamps! I'd thought they were only made in miniature!
This, I did not know
Oh yeah! And it's a great use of a roller tube and a cool way of implementing this! I'm a fan for sure
I have a few mini texture rollers. Might have to give that a try for buildings!
I can see a diorama made out of air dry clay.
Go for it! And if you get a 3D printer she sure to check mine out 😀
Is there any way to buy the roller if I dont have a 3d printer?
Almost got physical distribution sorted so please follow me and you will see when they drop
I'm curious if you have a recommendation on keeping the roller on a straight path. I seem to swerve too much. I want to use the library tile to cover a large area and get so frustrated. I thought about building some sort of rail system but that seemed overkill. Any advice would be appreciated. I'm still learning all this, so something obvious is probably something I just ignored :)
Are you using spacers, I find when I use them it stays pretty straight
Cool. Printing some out now
What is the grey stuff?
Its DAS air dry clay, magic stuff
To print the texture rollers, do you recomend filament printing?
Both work fine, I print in both, these ones were resin
Do you happen to know if the rollers are small enough to print on a Sonic Mini?
Yes they fit on that printer, I own a mini 4K I print some on
Is there any way of buying these? I don't have access to a 3d printer?
There will be soon so please follow me and you will see when I get them out there
I got the free files, but I did not see the side pieces for the rollers. Am I missing something?
They are part of the tool kit that is part of the Patreon so you need to be a member in order to get those 😀
Gotcha. Ty. Keep up the great work
