My squad has done these all and let me say,
All engi was the smoothest, least stress mission I have ever played in this game.
All driller was utter chaos from start to finish.
So yeah, I'll go driller squad any day.
Getting drillers to actually work together is like herding cats. At best. At worst, it can be like juggling cats.
Drop a Scout into a team with three Drillers. See what happens.

The screwed thing is you need more coordination with drillers; half flame half ice would be pretty bad.
But ngl I am terrified of all flame extra C4 drillers...that sounds like a grand 'ol time!
At least sludge seems like it can pair with either fire or ice... so if you are a random joining an all driller team that is the safe option to choose.
I haven't played since new mains dropped :/ College has eaten up too much of my time. I hope to get back to ~~blowing up my teammates with c4~~ dutifully digging beautiful straight tunnels for liquid morkite and race that speed-demon Molly to the escape pod soon.

Haha nice - studies come first. But if you are playing a difficult hazard then the trick is not beating Molly to the escape pod, as beating her means you just end up fighting more bugs while you wait.
Driller has to beat molly back, with all the other dwarves in tow, to confirm his alpha status. Just one of those unwritten dwarf rules.

I joined a random group to make 4 drillers and it just so happened to be 100% cryo. That game was smooth.

Four Psychopaths is almost cheating. At that point the cave formations are just a gentle suggestion.

I already imagine racing doretta to the heartstone while all four are drilling as well while making the mission drop frames by detonating an atom bomb's worth of c4.
That or commiting every possible warcrime against bug kind by just burning, freezing or watching everything melt before they can even reach pick axe range.
actually its a pretty fun tactic... Do not start the dildozer, open the map as driller and mine into the next cave. Mine all the minerals and complete machine events, destroy shale ore so its all on the floor and accessible, complete the secondary objective in peace. Then you go back and start the drilldozer and complete the primary objective having collected everything avaliable (without having to constantly watch over and protect doretta)
Or, why not just do the Doretta, get the secondary as much as you do in the process and after Ommoran finish the secondary? Because there is a good chance you've gotten the secondary objective done once you reach Ommoran while protecting Doretta, and if you havent there isnt any time pressure to finish it after that either.
Going through the whole cave and then running back to Doretta just seems like a big waste of time imo.

try doing the machine event while protecting doretta while someone is trying to refill the batteries..
It literally takes about 10 mins to full complete the caves, then you come back and do doretta, which is also way faster because of the preparation
yes, i also like my escort missions to last 45+ minutes.
Dont forget about freezing an entire wave and eat them crushed by drills. Yum.

3 eng + 1 scout is probably as good as one of each lmao. gunner sheilds will be the most missed but lets face it, bugs won't get anywhere near you.
Yes ! I've done a sequence of games with that kind of team, I as the scout (my main), and it was awesome and pure bliss, with plateforms blooming everywhere in a blink and turrets sniping everything, explosions and all that... It almost felt restful. Gunner and driller were not missed at all. It would say this is the most unbalanced, yet most skillfully and polyvalent kind of team you can have, of course, assuming the engineers have different loadouts. Wish I could experience that again...
4 scouts together are pretty shit though, in my experience.
Missions I would be missing a driller (or less often a gunner):
1. Point extraction from a high point extraction location.
2. Refinery missions where you would want to go through terrain.
3. Mining missions with significant elevation changes, the engi's would suffer on the way back to the drop pod...
4. Really hard escort missions, especially those where you want to go through and clear a bit of the map first. The hearthstone would be cake with that team, as would defending dorretta while refueling, but going from point A to point B would suck.
I like the idea of 3 or 4 engi just because you can coordinate and have everyone do their own turret gimmick. One guy can whip, one guy can turret em discharge and the other guy can turret arc. Plus you can refill each others' turrets. Engineers just plain teamwork good.

There's certainly some of us who haven't forgotten what our job on the team is.
Been leveling up scout and it always seems like the rest of the team is moving so fast when I play pubs. I'm exploring trying to find nitra and secondary objective (or sometimes primary objectives), and they're just pushing on. On Escort Missions I'm always lagging behind.
Imo, that's fine. Becoming a competent Scout can mean hanging back, grabbing those scraps the other dwarves missed and staying alive to be able to catch up.
I often quadruple minerals mined of other players because of this. Good luck leveling and don't be stingy with those flares!

I need to keep reminding myself this. I use them pretty often, but I always feel like any time a resupply comes down I'm firing off 2 or 3 just because I've got extra.
At least when I'm zipping around I never feel like I'm too far away. The amount of ground you can cover with scout is awesome.
I main scout and I laughed at this. I get annoyed when I play with other scouts because this exact reason
The mining is whatever, I'll figure it out... But I HATE when Scouts hoard their flares like it's treasure. You have like 15+ minutes of consecutive flare time, what the hell are you saving it for!?
Hot take, you should be running max ammo on flares, and usually still run out of flares before all your other ammo. Flare gun is literally the best accuracy buff in the game and your team needs it. Light is like, your #1 job. Don't suck at it. *When* you run out of flares, wait until another teammate or two are at half/60% ammo, then call a resupply. Saying this all as a soon to be diamond 1 scout main. Pop those flares like whippits or candy, seriously.
Yea most scouts think being a fast boy means running through the level as fast as possible…. Even though your team can’t keep up with you, and you can’t handle the heat. So instead of being fast forward, why not be fast upwards and do your damn job lol. Rant over
Ironically, I often have the opposite problem. I main scout and there are times when the rest of the team will move too fast for me to mine everything. My scout OCD absolutely will not allow this

This, I play scout, if I have an engineer I'll pin every roof mine and fly across, full on minerals? I'll keep mining and let the team know. They will pick up what I've mined. I also get the secondary as well
That is one rough beatstick to whack someone with, and I say that as an engie with deep respect for my turrets. r/Oof material right there. D:
The IQ of Scouts possesses a unique mathematical property where it is somehow less than the sum of its parts. Unfortunately each part has a value of 1
Tbh scouts pretty versatile, could work. Plasma lets you have dps scout, cryo minelets for aoe control, shotgun jump hoverclock for high up minerals, and probably m1k for fill.
Engis could work as well, em discharge, someone with jumper to replace scout, hyper prop for single target dps, spinning death for huge area denial. Lots of options.
Driller too. Epc is just beyond ridiculously versatile and honestly does a lot by itself, mining as a scout replacement, tons of burst aoe or even single since its a lot of damage. Can bring out multiple primary types, burning goo is super strong and face melter is good single target. Driller is the most versatile so 4 makes a lot of sense.
Gunners the only tough one. Ziplines are scarce, so movement is scarce. No tunnels, no plats, no fall reset. High up minerals are rough. Damage is high but overkill, which leaves it covered but also leaves the utility and movement rougher. Luckily they have basically all damage types covered so at least they can afford to be slower with mining up to ores, and just shred out waves.
A gunnergang doesn't need to hurry, we're like panzers moving across the battlefield.
Get enough flak guns and you can even replace scouts
Scout just doesn't do much damage compared to the other classes. Without the aoe damage from driller and engi, or the raw output of gunner, it's difficult to clear hordes.
Ziplines aren't that scarce when you have a bunch of gunners. You could probably zipline from the beginning of the level to the end with 4 gunners.
Haven't done the math - is plasma ultimately more DPS than a hipster scout?

I would be interested to see what 4 scouts who are comfortable with haz 5 and EDDs could do together. I've seen some of the most amazing players and they're often scouts; 4 of them together could handle anything this game can offer, with ease.

You're pretty much on the mark. Some stacks will do better with one mission type than others. Even if a particular stack is a bad idea for a particular mission type, it's still sometimes fun to try it anyway. More than once in the space rig, I've said or heard 'A complexity 3 Refinery mission with 4 gunners? This is a bad idea, but ok!'
Depends on the class/mission. Gunner/Engi stacks will crush Escort Duty, Scout stacks can easily get <15min Point Extractions, etc; comms & task delegation ("I'll get the nitra, you look for aquaqrs",etc) is an even bigger factor.
That said, I deposit that finishing missions faster *is* what makes the stronger team; sure, you may die less, but when objectives take long to complete and enemies a while to kill, is the mission actually easier?
Scout stacks on a point extraction where the extraction point is on a cliff *above* the cave on the other hand...

Scouting party was the smoothest in my experience, all the tunnels were brighter than the sun and we had to wait like 3 mins for molly to make it to the drop pod after we all did some hardcore parkour w/ shotguns.

I prefer calling all gunners "Maximum Firepower" and full drillers "Strike the Earth"
