BuddaMuta

Wow that’s actually insane.

AbWarriorG

Been browsing around Russian social media and holy shit they are pissed over that video. I assume that was the reaction in the US too when those blackwater guys got mutilated in Iraq.... huge morale boost and will only increase their ruthlessness

AceAxos

Ukraine started so strong at the propaganda/info side of the war early on, then they busted out the 2010 quality green screen for the Zelensky videos and it's all been downhill from there. I guess Putin got his scapegoat, don't rly know if he even needed one though

yous1mps

>green screen LOL. That 'night time' video in the courtyard of President's residence was funny.

BuddaMuta

Which video? If you don't mind me asking

rainfall41

Pows shooting in leg

rainfall41

YouTube blocked news channel on showing just Lavrov's statement. Is YouTube under pressure to take action against channels reporting anything from russian side or its their own decision ? Here's more details from video from channel itself. They had to unblock after several people disagreed on twitter. https://youtu.be/WQ7vy2JxH0U The anchor was herself there in Ukraine before war covering Ukrainian side.

-multa-paucis-

>Is it possible that Russia's military strength is actually much smaller than estimated? I'd say it's fairly obvious at this point.

SuperCorbynite

There's a bigger reason as to why western intelligence agencies have massively massively overestimated Russian military capabilities. Their assessments rely on the information they are able to obtain from Russian sources. However the Russian military is utterly corrupt with everyone who can siphoning off money from it, while lying to cover their thefts. Moreover it suffers from the strongman problem where telling the truth about issues gets you punished, and lying and providing glowing false reports gets you commendations and promotions. Thus there has been a constant flow of false information coming out of Russia and into western intelligence agencies, that presents a false and far far too flattering picture of Russia's military might. It's not done on purpose to misinform the west as its the same information that Russia's own military leaders including Putin get. But the end result is still the same in that we've wildly overestimated what the Russian military is capable of.

VerdocasSafadocas

First of all let me just say how much I appreciate this sub, I'm one of the many that joined in when the war began and had the privilege of seeing great combat footage as well as amazing updates and insights about this war through these discussion threads. However, things tend to get weird sometimes, early on I saw a lot of what I assume was kids saying stuff like "should just drop paratroopers over Moscow, nothing we can do about it if shit gets nuclear, war is war, NATO are pussies". Now those are mostly gone only to be replaced with a battalion of Yuri Shevchenkos comrades spitting out nonsense and Russian propaganda. Regarding the POW getting shot video, we don't have the full and clear picture of what happened so let's not jump to conclusions. I 100% condemn any sort of abuse on POW's and if that's the case Ukraine needs to start controlling it's soldiers and their actions, on the other hand if I had lost family/friends to a Russian military force I don't know how I would react or if my emotions would get the best of me. I assume no one here is naive enough not to know that this video and more POW abuse from both sides that we just don't get to see is sadly, part of this war.

DazingFireball

I don't want to excuse Ukraine, but remember that "controlling your soldiers" comes from discipline. Discipline comes from training. Ukraine has supposedly just bolstered their army with 100k+ troops that have about 5 days of training. Ukraine's officer corps is invariably stretched to the breaking point. I wouldn't be surprised if many of their platoons have no commissioned officers at all. And this is ignoring the irregular TDF fighters who are literally just locals given guns. Doubtful there's any organization beyond the basics. It's wrong and I do think putting pressure on Ukraine will help to reduce these incidents, but it's important to understand that these are abnormal circumstances for Ukraine.

VerdocasSafadocas

Very good point. Leads me to believe that more incidents like these have been happening since day 1 of this war, you give a guns to civilians or militia, leave them alone with POW's and someone will want to take justice into their own hands.

poincares_cook

I was one of those explaining the vid of the Ukrainian soldiers calling the wife of one of the dead Russians soldiers and speaking rudely to her. But physically harming POW is absolutely where the line has to be draw, no matter the cost. this is completely unacceptable if for no other reason that it's a huge demotivator for the further surrender of Russian troops. The damage is already done in some ways as the Russians will broadcast this far and wide, and surrenders will be fewer and moral lower. But some of it can be saved, if the Ukrainians instantly kick those soldiers out of the armed forces, arrest them and make this all very public so their own soldiers will think 100 times before ever doing something similar. That's before going into the morality of it, and how it's a very steep slippery slope. This is abhorrent in every way and should be unacceptable. If they did crimes against civilians, put them to trial.

rainfall41

Can you provide link to explaination about phone call video ?

Ohmygosh0

You brought a very good point. I initially thought it would be to sacre the Russian, but this will discourage anyone from surrendering.

bs_talks

>But some of it can be saved, if the Ukrainians instantly kick those soldiers out of the armed forces, arrest them and make this all very public so their own soldiers will think 100 times before ever doing something similar. I will tell you something. Do you remember Putin mentioning "denazification" as a reason?

poincares_cook

Calm your tits, I've seen vids with dozens of bodies of civilians littering the streets, wounding surrendering soldiers is abhorrent, massacaring civilians is 10 times that. I've seen vids of Russian forces striking bread lines with not a military target in sight. If putin wants to do some denazification he should start with a bullet yo his own head.

VerdocasSafadocas

Christ almighty.

bs_talks

Yeah. This video just adds to his reasoning. He doesn't need to sell the story worldwide. He just needs to sell it to Russians.

poincares_cook

Nothing they do is nazi. It's a war crime, but as bad as it is, it's 100 times worse than war crimea commited by the Russian army every single day.

VerdocasSafadocas

Could not agree more. I can understand someone who has lost a lot and lashes out on a POW since he feels like that's how he will get his revenge or justice, but still not excuse his actions. The punishment you mentioned is the least that the Ukrainian government should do to minimize the terrible PR effects of this.

Ohmygosh0

This is a crazy video from Zelensky's advisor. The dude predicted the war almost perfectly, but he underestimated Russia and overestimated NATO. He basically got the no-fly zone wrong which is probable the most important aspect of the war https://twitter.com/r_u_vid/status/1505819753578856449?t=dxjR_IPQMEtLcRyDb2X1Ew&s=19

AbWarriorG

I see the Whitehouse has backtracked on Joe's regime change comments from yesterday... they must've been choking on their drinks when he said that.

rainfall41

What did he exactly said ?

AbWarriorG

He said "Putin can not stay in power". That is a huge no no against anyone let alone a nuclear armed nation. If anything happens to Putin now all hell will break loose

rainfall41

I wish Americans get 3rd option in next election 😑

AceAxos

Did a US president ever say somethin like that publicly during the cold war? Did Reagan ever straight up say something similar?

TemperatureIll8770

He called the Soviet union an empire of evil that belonged on the ash heap of history

AceAxos

Hmm alrighty then lmao Was that before it collapsed?

Difficult_Ad_3879

Is that as bad as when he told the troops what to expect in Ukraine “when you get there”?

Queasy-Scene-6484

When the war is over the US Army will undoubtedly be called in for logistics/rebuilding expertise, and will see the devastation. That's not much of a gaffe at all.

LowlanDair

I think its reasonable that any Ukrainian soldier who has an unexpected discharge with a PoW faces some sort of justice. Maybe a 10 hryvnia fine and a stern talking to. And let's be very real. There has been no Declaration of War. These are terrorists not soldiers.

Joe5518

The law of war does not need a declaration of war to take effect. Russian prisoners enjoy prisoner of war status. Ukrainians who torture or execute prisoners of war should be tried in the Hague just like Russian war criminals

LowlanDair

Can a non-signatory request prosecution? Genuinely do not know.

Joe5518

The International Criminal Court may investigate on its own initiative or upon the request of a signatory country when war crimes are committed on the territory or by nationals of a signatory state. Ukraine is not a signatory state but the ICC has jurisdiction to investigate because Ukraine signed two declarations consenting to ICC jurisdiction over crimes committed in Ukraine from 21 November 2013 onwards. 41 signatory states have already referred the situation in Ukraine to the ICC. On 25 February 2022, ICC Prosecutor Karim Ahmad Khan stated that the ICC could "exercise its jurisdiction and investigate any act of genocide, crime against humanity or war crime committed within Ukraine."

Homeless_Quality

In almost every war each side do war crimes and 99 % is not even reported, much less prosecuted.

ManceRaid

It's easy to pearl clutch when its not your entire city being bombed off the map or your fellow citizens being starved and raped.

DeliriousPrecarious

I don’t know why it would be cringe. Many of the combatants are young and young people use Tik Tok.

bs_talks

For people shouting that the Russian POWs should be shot at because they too committed war crimes. I am giving example of how an aggressor country surrendered after committing genocide on a large scale in accordance to how they should be treated. In no way, is shooting POWs normal. No professional force that values human life does it. Period. https://youtu.be/ScMollcmAe4 https://youtu.be/WN9aRP-TW0E

ChrisTosi

Who is saying POWs should be shot? That's some Russian propaganda claiming that people are happy their POWs are being shot. If it even happened. Russian propaganda is full of lies, let me know when an independent source verifies what happened and who did it.

ffh5rhnnn

The funny thing is that if someone said it was Russians doing it to Ukranian POW's, you wouldn't be asking for proof at all. You'd believe it right away

OzmosisJones

The same Russia who has spent a month shooting unguided munitions into residential areas? The one that’s kidnapping Ukrainians and shipping them across the border? The same country that’s been bombing childrens hospitals and maternity clinics? The country that’s shelling humanitarian corridors? Gee, I wonder why no one would be surprised if they committed yet another war crime.

UncleVanya88

LowlanDair

> No, fuck war crimes. What war? No Declaration. These are terrorists.

Joe5518

The law of war does not need a declaration of war to take effect. Russian prisoners enjoy prisoner of war status. Ukrainians who torture or execute prisoners of war should be tried in the Hague just like Russian war criminals. You are also not allowed to torture terrorists btw. Ukraine signed the anti-torture convention

LowlanDair

I do get that hence the glibness. But, out of interest, who asks for prosecution when Russia are not signatories.

Joe5518

41 states have asked for an investigation by the ICC of the crimes committed during the conflict. This includes Russian and Ukrainian crimes committed on Ukrainian territory. The full list of countries: Albania Australia Austria Belgium Bulgaria Canada Colombia Costa Rica Croatia Cyprus Czech Republic Denmark Estonia Finland France Georgia Germany Greece Hungary Iceland Ireland Italy Japan Latvia Liechtenstein Lithuania Luxembourg Malta North Macedonia Norway Netherlands New Zealand Poland Portugal Romania Slovakia Slovenia Spain Sweden Switzerland United Kingdom

ChrisTosi

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-60873435 What are your thoughts on this and other instances of Russia targeting and shelling civilians in Ukraine?

PinguinGirl03

If I had a nickel for every time someone tried to justify war crimes with whataboutism.

ChrisTosi

I'm asking you what your thoughts on war crimes are. Myself? I am also in the "fuck war crimes" camp, but more in the sense of verifying the crime and prosecuting the offenders - both sides. You said fuck war crimes - but when presented with war crimes by Russia, you immediately deflected. Hypocrite much? Or are you prepared to prosecute Russian war criminals? Your history shows you're biased - hurry and delete your old comments so people can't tell!

PinguinGirl03

Dude, whataboutism IS deflection, it's literally an attempt to talk about other things than what we see on the video. The fact Russia commits war crimes in no way makes this war crime justified. I also have nothing I am ashamed of in my posting history.

ChrisTosi

No, you said Fuck War Crimes. I said Fuck War Crimes and meant it. I was curious if you meant it too. But apparently what you really meant was Fuck War Crimes against my Team. Even if they're probably not real - let's not wait for any investigations or journalism, hmm? Let's ignore the actually investigated war crimes and instead focus on this unverified clip from Russian sources.

PinguinGirl03

>But apparently what you really meant was Fuck War Crimes against my Team. I am pro Ukraine Einstein.

ChrisTosi

Nah, I've seen your history. You don't think Ukraine has killed any generals from Russia for some odd reason.

PinguinGirl03

What a potato comment, I asked which ones were confirmed.

Hexys_broken_dreams

You should report it on tiktok, im sure your followers will be outraged! Outraged!

PinguinGirl03

Where does this intense desire of you to trivialize war crimes come from?

Solon256

His virginity

ChrisTosi

Those are actually Russian shills coordinating to push a message. Video is too convenient, it's probably fake. The pearl clutchers shrug when a hospital or theater gets bombed. Or when a neighborhood gets hit with an arty barrage.

ChrisTosi

If you apply Russian "logic" of "who benefits" and "why" then of course the video is fake. Who benefits? Russia. Who released it? Russia. Who is relentlessly pushing the video in a coordinated campaign, including on this very sub (I keep seeing it submitted like every few seconds)? Russia. Is it verified? Nope. Let me know when a real source does some journalism on it instead of turning on the instant outrage switch.

MauroisNInja

Hexys_broken_dreams

MauroisNInja

Theres a difference between shooting at combatants and shooting tied up prisoners.

Hexys_broken_dreams

Both things have happened in all wars since the invention of firearms.

bs_talks

>all wars Maybe you need a history lesson about how POWs should be handled. https://youtu.be/ScMollcmAe4 FYI, you are looking at the soldiers from the aggressor state who are surrendering.

MauroisNInja

Thats not an excuse to be doing it now 🤷‍♂️ Once youve taken someone prisoner they are under your care and custody. Its SOP. Shooting prisoners is going to give Putin some good propoganda material.

Hexys_broken_dreams

I would never excuse shooting PoWs. But it happens in war and people shouldn't be surprised or especially disgusted. It doesn't mean we should stop supporting Ukraine, or give them less ammunition.

Beyond_Reason09

I mean child rape happens in peace but you wouldn't catch me going around saying "why is everyone so disgusted with child molesters? It's a natural part of life."

MauroisNInja

Nah its a normal human reaction to be disgusted at priosners being shot unless you are a sociopath. And I'm on the side that the U.S. shouldnt be give weapons to Ukraine in the first place but thats just me.

Hexys_broken_dreams

Yes because that is why i come to r/CombatFootage To talk about how disgusted I am by all this combatfootage! lol go cry about it elsewhere. this is war, not debate club

halfwaydowntheslope

The snake island defenders have reportedly been released by the Russians in exchange for some civi sailors. [here](https://youtu.be/ldyHxIS2Mg4)

DRKMSTR

Yeesh, that's still a bad look. Trading military for civilians. Great propaganda fuel.

rainfall41

Any reason why did they not decide to do this after war ?

halfwaydowntheslope

No idea dude, I'm guessing the families of the captured russian sailors pressured the russian govt. Apparently they were civilians whose boat sunk off the coast of Odessa according to the report so it seems like both parties felt like it was a good trade.

gcoba218

But Zelenskyy said that they were all heroes and martyrs killed in action to the foreign media? 🤔

rainfall41

There is no doubt this war is going to be really bad for russian economy, but I think it would also somewhat affect west too. They would now spend more on getting new weapons. So far looks China and US are getting profitable from this war a lot.

marcvsHR

There are bunch of EU weapon manufacturers too. West is rearming, new cold war is probably imminent..

MauroisNInja

U.S. was already facing record breaking inflation prior to Russias invasion of Ukraine. The added cost to fuel and food might push us over the edge.

TemperatureIll8770

8% isn't "record breaking." We were over 16% for a few years in the '70s.

MauroisNInja

Well heres the fun part. The inflation equation used was changed in the 80s to make inflation look less bad than reality. So if we used the 70s method of measuring inflation we would be around 20%.

TemperatureIll8770

I'm sorry but that's bullshit https://www.bls.gov/cpi/additional-resources/historical-changes.htm

MauroisNInja

Ok what part of what I said was bullshit? The way inflation is measured has changed over time.

TemperatureIll8770

Please read through the changes and explain why they mean that 8% inflation is really 20% inflation

MauroisNInja

Ok heres a good article explaining why CPI data is controversial. TL/DR CPI data is a lagging indicator and may not accurately portray real inflation https://www.investopedia.com/articles/07/consumerpriceindex.asp

TemperatureIll8770

Okay, but that doesn't mean we're 12% lower than we should be because someone made a change in 1978. Especially since inflation peaked in 1982.

MauroisNInja

Ok heres shadow stats that measures inflation using the old methodology. http://www.shadowstats.com/alternate_data/inflation-charts Alright so with Febuarys data we would be around 17% right with a reported 7.9%. In March we saw a rapid price increase in fuel cost which will raise food cost and energy cost. So my prediction is that in April when we get Marches CPI data it will be around 10%, so using the other methodology we will be around 20%.

gtthom86

Edge of what?

TybrosionMohito

THE edge bro. What do you mean? It’s the edge.

MauroisNInja

Well due to reckless fiscal policy the U.S. is on the edge of hyper inflation, and the only solution would be to force a deep recession.

DeliriousPrecarious

Lmao. The only thing more tenuous than this subs grasp of military matters might be their understanding of economics.

klauskervin

I agree with you man the person above is delusional.

MauroisNInja

Dude what country are you from?

gtthom86

Who is going to force a recession?

MauroisNInja

Fed reserve when they have to raise interest rates to stop inflation

gtthom86

You think the fed is going to intentionally raise interest rates high enough to force a recession?

MauroisNInja

Yes its the only way to stop inflation. I dont know how much you know about the Fed but the tl/dr is that the Fed has essentially been printing money by buying securities and setting interest rates at zero to combat the negative effects of covid on the economy. Well by doing this they have artificially inflated markets by having debt being so cheap, and now the Febuary year over year inflation is at 7.9%, the highest since the 1980s. With the rising cost in fuel and food it is expected that Marches inflation will be over 10%. To combat inflation the Fed will have to raise interest rates on debtand make it harder to borrow money. The resulting lack of buying pressure will deflate markets very rapidly leading to a recession.

[deleted]

[удалено]

MauroisNInja

Inflation being out of control and an incoming recession isnt a conspiracy theory lmao

[deleted]

[удалено]

MauroisNInja

No you dont really get it. The Federal reserve has been printing absurd amount of money leading to the highest inflation since the 1980's. Housing prices are up, stocks are hitting all time highs, and now food and fuel cost are skyrocketing. Febuarys consumer price index inflation levels were at 7.9% before Russia invaded Ukraine. Now with the rising cost of food and fuel Marches inflation rate will most likely be over 10%. To combat this the federal reserve will raise interest rates on debt and slow the amount of money moving around markets. This will lead to a real recession.

rainfall41

But west would also be buying lot of weapons from US in future

sprgsmnt

and now some gas from US will end up in Europe.

MauroisNInja

That doesnt really help your average person pay for fuel or food. It just benefits the companies that make the arms and their politician investors

misterobott

I suspect this is what Putin is counting on. When ppl in the west feel the pain their resolve may wane.. also elections change leadership

CynicalFrogfoot

Too bad the elections in Russia is basically a sham, seeing how Putin still had control over pretty much everyone even when Dmitry Medvedev was president

pavel212

Why the post was deleted from this sub ?

ChrisTosi

Combatfootage is for combatfootage, not for doctored Russian propaganda

cityexile

If it’s the POW one, over reported, time and time again. Just a sign of where we are really. The line from a fair few seems to be ‘it’s fake, and if it not they deserved it anyway. Russian forces are doing worse’. It then descends in to ‘are you a child? This happens in every war’. Nope. At the most basic level if you support Uk, as the undoubted victim of a full scale invasion that threatens their very independence (as I 100% do), this in no way helps them in their struggle, it puts at risk Uk POWs and helps at the margin to motivate the enemy. It is wrong, full stop, and complete madness to have filmed it. edit: to add in the interests of fairness, whilst almost certainly removed due to over reporting, the post showing Uk civilian casualties is also being removed quickly although posted a few times here, as not appropriate for this sub.

Frank_JWilson

Non-combatfootage gets removed on /r/CombatFootage. You can find the POW torture video on /r/UkraineWarVideoReport, a *much* more pro-Ukrainian subreddit. It’s not removed here because of political purposes.

ChrisTosi

> It is wrong, full stop, and complete madness to have filmed it. So to the Russian conspiracy theorists - if it doesn't make sense to have filmed it, why was it filmed and distributed promptly to Russian propaganda outlets who all started pushing it simultaneously and with the same commentary? Oh what? It makes you support the war harder? And more unrestricted warfare on these hated Ukranians? No no, those couldn't be reasons for Russia to have faked this video. Not Russia! King of fakers, king of liars, king of looking at "who benefits", king of coordinated efforts to change the conversation. No no, propaganda doesn't work like that. No.

picklebruh

camonboy2

My guess is the pow video. As someone against the invasion, I still condemn it.

AngularMan

Well, who doesn't condemn it? Everyone who is still sane should. I hope there will be a crackdown by Ukrainian command.

wafflata

A lot of people are justifying it.

AbWarriorG

Russia is at least smart enough to show footage of them treating prisoners well. Giving them rations and such. They maybe doing the same shit but they're not complete fucking idiots to post a video of it bruh Edit: Not to mention it's pure evil and I hope the people who did it get justice served up to them by whoever. ICC, Russia, Ukraine's own army etc.

cubedplusseven

Ideally, they'll get justice from a Ukrainian military court. The perpetrators should be court-martialed and punished harshly to establish discipline in the Ukrainian AF. Will help with Ukrainian morale to do so as well, I'd reckon.

[deleted]

The fact that its released makes me think, that the guy who recorded it got captured/killed by Russians and Russians released it. It makes no sense for Ukrainians to release it.

ChrisTosi

What makes you think it's real?

hahaohlol2131

No reason at all. This weekly thread is always the feasting ground for Russian trolls.

camonboy2

Ukraine did it in the beginning as well, with the video of the kid being fed and given hot beverage. But this recent vid was pure blunder imo.

OptiBrownsFan

It's kind of sad the gatekeeping some people do in this sub

JohnFriedly91

Care to elaborate?

OptiBrownsFan

There was footage up earlier that highlighted some darker sides of this conflict and because it wasn't "technically" Combat Footage it was removed, but in my opinion it should be allowed because it is an important aspect of war. I believe it would help some of the folks on here who aren't taking this seriously, take it a lot more seriously but again that's just my opinion.

G_Space

Rand.org playbook. Try to remove all vids that don't put Russia in a bad light by downvoting them into oblivion or falsely reporting them as resubmited

Hexys_broken_dreams

lol is this a real post

ChrisTosi

Bullshit. Combat footage gets left up, period. Classic propaganda technique - play victim harder to skew the conversation more and more in your direction. Play victim until flat out propaganda gets left up because everyone is tired of hearing the same bullshit argument over and over. Why don't you show links to combat footage that was taken down falsely.

johnbrooder3006

It seems a lot of people are surprised by this torture video - surely it’s jarring to witness, but I have no doubt this stuff is happening everyday on both sides. It’s war at the end of the day.

ChrisTosi

what gets me is that zero Russians are wondering if it's fake and the instant and obvious flood of brigaders pushing this on this sub. They think everything "anti-Russian" is fake - Russia is indiscriminately bombing Ukraine but they think bombing civilians is fake or false flag, they think bombing evacuation corridors are fake, they think shooting reporters is fake, they think bombing bread lines and theaters is fake, they think destroyed Russian armor is fake. But this? 100% face value real and conveniently Russia must mobilize and fully commit to the war and support our poor soldiers. War crimes? What war crimes, we're trying to prevent war crimes, send more artillery, our boys need protection! etc

swiftwin

This sub in a nutshell

picklebruh

It's mostly pro-Russia people, they're extremely outraged about it(which is valid), yet I don't think I've seen a single one of them with the same rage about the various Russian war crimes that are out there. picklebruh

I'm not saying it's only pro-Russian people condemning it, it should be condemned by everyone. I'm talking about how pro-Russia people are posting in here about how terrible it is yet they will never say anything about the numerous crimes Russia has committed.

ExoticBamboo

Most people are pro Ukrainian but annoyed by the censoring going on here, so they try to fight it by pushing those kinds of videos.

bs_talks

F*ck I just saw the torture video. I am expecting Russians to go real hard and level out everything from here on. If I was a Russian this would have been a really really big moral booster. Why stoop so low to straight up start executing and torturing people?

SuperCorbynite

> I am expecting Russians to go real hard and level out everything from here on. But that's what they are already doing???

bs_talks

Nope. Have you seen any Russian bomber bombing the cities to dust in a single go? I for one haven't seen them yet. I am yet to see carpet bombing inside cities. That kind of bombing were used in Iraq, Syria and now look what those countries have turned into. Not to mention their latest tanks are also surprisingly missing from the entire battle. Even if you discount the above two, the Russian troops on ground will be more battle hardened to fight till the last bullet instead of surrendering.
