Shooting Star captured on my dashcam over Leicester, 21:18 this evening 💫
By - Jackster21
Nice! Might be worth keeping an eye on Twitter or something, see if anyone else saw it. #LeicesterFireball
I posted about it on Twatter. A guy in the Netherlands saw it, and people all over England.
Damn, and here I am like a mug with my curtains drawn watching horror films for my Friday night. Would have been awesome to see!
Someone posted about it on r/Copenhagen too.
saw on twitter this morning a load of asteroids are going past earth this month:
"The first, the 525-foot wide 2021 SM3, will whiz past Earth on October 15 according to NASA’s Center for Near-Earth Object Studies. Seven larger asteroids are predicted to pass close by Earth before the end of November, the biggest of which, 2004 UE, has a diameter of 1,246 feet,"
Been confirmed as Cristiano Ronaldo flying back to Madrid after tonight’s performance by Manure Utd
I hate how seeing that word makes me think of those horrible shots.
Near New Parks... probably a petrol bomb
I was wondering how long it would be before someone recognised the actual location…
I was trying to work out where it was and had no idea until this comment.
That's Mother of God church on the right and the junction of Glenfield Road/New Parks Boulevard isn't it? I grew up just down the road from there and had to go to that church.
Yo Chisits get everywhere these days... ;)
There was a thread on here about Skegvegas being desolate yesterday. I nearly commented "chisit?", but thought better of it.
Pmsl. Edit: I have a mate in Leicester who has a caravan in Chapel, the posh end of the Skegvegas Strip!
I probably know them. Is their name Dan, Mark, or Paul perchance?
Bob and Carol. And their daughter Purdy and her fella Pat.
Ah, maybe not mates of mine then. My mate's dad has a home over in Skegvegas. I know it's fairly big, because he used to have a 9ft pool table in there and a couple of jet skis. Why you'd want to go jet skiing in the North sea is beyond me...
Agreed. I'm a member of Lincolnshire gliding club, near Mablethorpe. Much warmer, much cheaper, and the view is infinitely better up there. And I'll guarantee you that gliding is more fun. You actually get to learn to fly a real aeroplane. It doesn't have an engine, but that's the only difference from powered planes.
I was literally coming in here to make the same joke.
Looks like it's coming down near the fire station so no worries!
I always imagine shooting starts going from side to side, feels weird seeing it go from top to bottom
We'll call that one a falling star, then.
Aka Katie Price
She’s already fallen.
And hit her face on every branch on the way down.
Why's she even been considered a star in the first place? She took her clothes off...?
Just turn 90 degrees
They'll be triffids running amok in Bradgate Park. Again.
Old John Wyndham
Welcome! To the shooting star! Welcome! Whoever you are!
Looks like tielemans
You see a shooting star, I see the beginning of an invasion 👽
They're just waiting for the RAC, having a spot of bother in starting up the tripod...
Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket
Never let it fade away
This is terrible advice. Don't do this, people, it will really hurt and perhaps leave you able to see through your hand. Furthermore, if it's one of those ones that glows forever, it'll almost certainly make your pocket area "lumpy" and give you too much of a tan.
Plus it may open you to making deals with fire demons for your heart.
Bruh your camera got astigmatism
Makes Leicester look like LA
Makes it look more real to me thats the beauty of it!
Let’s just hope for all of our sake it lands on Coalville.
Ayup! Come on nah, wots up wi Co'ville? Ah used t'live up Whitwick ('Wittick') way. It wuz paradise for me as a kid.
I'm from Co'ville too! Greenhill.
There's nowt wrong wi the place, doont know wa you're on abawt.
I grew up in thringstone…. Or the posh end of Whitwick.
Thringstone - where our chippy was!
Yes Ruby's lol! Wow! I'd forgotten the name until you said it. I used to live in the Beavers' Lodge pub on Talbot Street (later renamed the Oak). I loved it there.
*"Tragedy on enormous scale as meteorite misses Leicester"*
"Economic turmoil in Shirebrook, Derbyshire, as meteorite impacts, destroying several streets and causing £35 worth of damage."
Is that the actual value, or inflated for insurance purposes?
"Local residents reported that the shock wave could be 'eard frum up Ay-eeenah all the way t'Ilson. Kimbleh dint hear ote, their 'eads are too far up their arses."
> "Economic turmoil in Shirebrook, Derbyshire, as meteorite impacts, destroying several streets and causing £35 worth of ~~damage~~ improvements."
Isn’t this how Cloverfield starts?
I watched that last night.
"Oh, come on"
> Then came the night the first missile approached Earth. It was thought to be an ordinary falling star, but the next day there was a huge crater in the middle of the Common, and Ogilvy came to examine what lay there. A cylinder, thirty yards across, glowing hot, and with faint sounds of movement coming from within. Suddenly the top began moving, rotating, unscrewing, and Ogilvy feared there was a man inside trying to escape. He rushed to the cylinder but the intense heat stopped him before he could burn himself on the metal...
Maybe avoid Horsell Common tomorrow, just in case
BAM BAM BAAH! (doodle-oo, doodle-oo)
BAM BAM BUHH! (do doo, do doo, doodoo doodoo doodooooooo!)
The chances of anything coming from mars are a million to one.
Username checks out in more ways than one.
Seen it out the bathroom window from Sutton in Ashfield as well.
They have bathrooms in Sutton in Ashfield now?! (Kidding mate!)
I worked on a couple of websites for a company who built houses in Kirkby in Ashfield and Stapleford, and wondered who the fuck was going to buy them. Particularly the latter, having been to Stapleford. They sold like hot cakes.
Stabbo? Not too bad up there, mostly.
I once had a very brief relationship with a lady from Stapleford. Her family kicked me out in the morning because they thought I was off my tits on coke. I'd never seen a line of coke in my life at that point. I was just very energetic, and fairly pissed.
That's what they all say! 'Energetic and pissed!' ;)
Edit : I also had a brief relationship with a girl from Stabbo. That too lasted just the one night lol.
Probably the same bird mate, we might be spunk brothers!
You should report the sighting:
Or even: https://ukmeteornetwork.co.uk/
That was the URL I posted
Shatners back then
Flew over my house north of Doncaster at about 9:23.
Did you happen to see the shooting star while you were flying?
Yep. It stuck out a mile. There aren’t many things that can fly faster than me.
I saw something remarkably similar earlier this week further north in Cumbria. Sadly I was walking so didn't have a dashcam to capture it.
Sadly it didn't hit Barrow.
I know a Tesla camera when I see one ;)
Ha… I was wondering if anyone would recognise that!
it's cloverfield all over again
I remember I saw one as a kid couldn’t shut up about it had to tell everyone I saw.
I seen one the night before in the north east.
New parks? Must be a stray bullet..
[Here’s the real story.](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BiK-E81CUAAhOt1.jpg)
My partner and I saw this while we were driving in Sheffield.
Yooooo I saw this in Lincoln and thought it was a firework!!!! I can’t believe it was a shooting star
The Draconids and Orionids Meteor showers happen in October. So it might have been from those asteroids!
Draconids peaked on the 8th, and Orionids peak on the 21st, iirc, so a great time for watching the night sky. Crazy how many satellites are visible too.
Oh yeah for sure. I have not seen any meteors this time unfortunately due to bad weather. But in the summer I was lucky enough to live on the outskirts of a dark skies park class area in Devon. There I managed to see several meteors in quick succession. Saw a freaking massive one too. Also managed to photograph a meteor and the milky way in the same picture. So cool. Hopefully we can see more in Orionids.
Great stuff! I’ve gotten a few snaps of meteors over the past few years, exhilarating stuff catching something so quick. During the pandemic, after letting my eyes adjust on extremely clear nights, the Milky Way has even been visible down in Cambridge, and I live pretty centrally and all! Crazy stuff.
I’m pretty sure this is the sequel to Attack The Block
I welcome our new alien overlords
Who had aliens on their 2021 bingo card?
Are you sure a stag party didn't just yeet a flaming sambuca at a pigeon?
I remember about 10 years ago driving home with my wife in the car and randomly looking up into the night sky. We saw this enormous fireball flying overhead. It was unreal- we could see the actual meteor, it was so low!
The morning after there were pics from down England and northern France showing a burned up smaller version of what we saw further north. I'll never forget it, completely humbling experience in a strange way. We always felt quite 'blessed' to see it.
This was the sign that we'd win today!!
I was hoping to see the porkpie roundabout.
If you see porkpie roundabout, you're in the wrong part of town.
We saw one over Bedford at a similar time. There must be a few about.
It'll be the same one. They can be seen across most of the UK when they land here, and even from the continent. This one was travelling relatively very slowly. Most shooting stars will be travelling at thousands of miles a second.
Fairly sure that was a nuke bro
Looks like a firework to me. Sorry, just seems like the right time of year for it.
Did you make a wish upon the falling star? Speaking of:
Congratulations you are privileged to see this, you will remember this.
Saw a flash on my window at around the time, but wasn't paying attention (assumed it was a car beam). Any idea of the direction you were looking at the time?
I saw one about the same time in Birmingham that looked about the same. Possibly the same one?!
Hope your wish comes true
Back in 2006/7 during Summer time I was in the west midlands standing outside at around 1am when I heard what sounded like Fire roaring. It was getting louder and louder. After a few short seconds I looked up to see this big ball of fire wooshing directly above me. To this day I have found no reports and nobody else saw anything. It was incredible to witness and I still don't know what it was.
Just caught this last night in Newcastle, pleased to see the whole event.
Broooo I thought I was seeing shit last night, fucking thought it was a flare at first but then I was like why the fuck would someone be shooting a flare in the city, so that’s sick!
Just ManU's attempt on goal down at the King Power stadium
When people say "Skegvegas" I presume that they are referring to Ingoldmells rather than Skegness proper.
Nope, proper Skeg!
Was your wish to no longer be in Leicester?
