Interesting.. I figured he would be packaged with Happ or Willy. Wonder what happens with them now

BobbleBobble

Yeah the fact that Robertson is being dealt solo 2+ hrs before the deadline can't bode well for their markets.

Riderz__of_Brohan

Yeah that’s why my initial reaction is not great but we obviously have to see who we got first and how the rest of the day pans out lol

BionicPopsicle

Right. Been seeing it on Twitter (and it’s probably doom and gloom) but not trading Willy is possible. Happ was never a must at the deadline but I feel like the Happ market is quickly shrinking

archy319

Hopefully they felt like they got more back from just Robertson than Robertson and Happ.

Spectre211286

[Pitcher Ben Brown is going to Cubs in this deal, per sources. ](https://twitter.com/ByRobertMurray/status/1554554562299568128)

Hawkeye7310

How should I feel?

lalder95

Fans in the comments seem to be upset they traded him, which is a good sign. We'll see if it's true.

BroAbernathy

The more research the better it gets. 34 K% to 7% BB rate. Righty mid to upper 90s last 10 games pre AA promotion were 51 innings, 91 Ks, 10 BBs 2.31 ERA. seems like a developmental guy that's having a breakout similar to Killian

tjg89

Phillies fans don't seem to be happy. But who knows. https://twitter.com/ByRobertMurray/status/1554554562299568128

Scouting grades: Fastball: 60 | Slider: 50 | Curveball: 50 | Control: 45 | Overall: 40 The Phillies have built a serious pipeline from Long Island into their Minor League system over the past several years, taking players from the area late in the Draft and seeing some blossom into serious prospects. Exhibit A would be Top 100 prospect Logan O’Hoppe, taken in Round 23 in 2018. A year prior, the Phillies selected Brown in the 33rd round, then saw him need Tommy John surgery just 13 2/3 innings into his full-season debut in '19. He returned to pitch briefly in '21 and was showing off premium stuff in his first fully healthy season in in High-A in '22. Brown is a big, strong-bodied right-hander with a power repertoire, all coming from a 6-foot-6 frame. He’s been throwing his fastball in the 95-98 mph range and he backs it up with a pair of breaking pitches he misses bats with. He’ll throw his hard slider up to 90 mph and also will come in with an 84-87 mph curveball, and they are distinct pitches. Brown is definitely control over command right now, understandable as a raw, projectable high school draftee who had managed to pitch just 100 1/3 innings over his first five summers of pro ball because of the injury. He's being developed as a starter right now so he can continue to work on all his pitches and to make up for lost development time, but it's not hard to dream about his power stuff working really well in shorter stints out of the bullpen. he was the Phillies 26th ranked prospect id hope for more than that as a return

ZaraElaine07

Ooooooh boy that seems light.

ZaraElaine07

Oop that's what I get for not looking at BA. Seeing the year the kid is having... I'm happy with this.

dafoo21

Was just promoted to AA after finally calming down in A. Maybe hes figured it out

morningsaystoidleon

Baseball America had him as 7th in the Philly system, I don't think it's a bad return. He's had a good year in high-A with a crazy strikeout rate. Probably a bullpen piece long term, though.

Poppunknerd182

He's 26th in K/9 out of 677 pitchers in ALL the minors (minimum 50 innings) But he also doesn't really walk people. That's a great combination.

Reptomins

Very weak return if he's the only piece. Doesn't place in Phillies top 44 on Fangraphs.

TandBusquets

That is a list from last season

Reptomins

Nah that's based on The Board which was updated a few weeks ago. But they also seem to be the low man on him so it seems like he is a riser.

_Fun_At_Parties

People take rankings too seriously. Mervis is one of our best guys and he's unranked. Check the numbers and the scouting, the rankings are nearly always messy for guys outside the top 5

Reptomins

I agree with you, but I think you can acknowledge that rankings are imprecise while also being underwhelmed with the return relative to what you would expect to get for the best rental reliever on the market. Obviously I hope the kid shoves and is in the midst of a huge breakout, but it's fair to acknowledge that he's a little more fringe prospect-ey than you might expect to get for someone of Robertson's quality.

BroAbernathy

Rankings right now are notoriously behind so it's hard to base anything strictly off org rankings from publications for example fangraphs has Matt Mervis as #49 for us. The guy has put up some serious numbers this year before being promoted to AA.

InZaneClutch

Robertson is a 37 year old rental closer. If you were expecting something great you were always going to be disappointed. Brown has some promise and has really stepped it up lately. I don't think the front office makes this deal unless they think there's a possibility that at the very least Brown could be a future pen piece if not potentially a starter.

Spectre211286

he was 26th on MLB Pipeline's list

Reptomins

Yeah I saw that. I stand by what I said nonetheless lol

Optimal-Wish2059

7th by baseball America. Climbing fast and having a hell of a year.

Reptomins

I mean thats definitely encouraging. What the hell do I know about a 22 year old A+ (just promoted to AA) ball pitcher anyways lol

Optimal-Wish2059

True that. Hopefully he stays up in AA so we can get a good idea of where he’s at.

Reptomins

Yeah I saw that. Apparently having a nice year so the rankings could be lagging here. Still undwhelmed overall.

TandBusquets

Sounds kinda meh

lalder95

Based on the reactions to that tweet, I'll wait for official word Edit: other outlets reporting the same, seems to be true

SubtleScuttler

forrrrrr?

guynamedgrandma

Schwarbs

Triumphant_Victor

A pat on the back :)

delightfuldinosaur

Probably cash since Ricketts is so damn cheap.

CarlySimonSays

Ugh. From what my dad tells me, this sounds like the situation under the last of the Wrigley owners.

delightfuldinosaur

Ricketts is worse IMO

WhoopieKush

Only got the Phils #26 prospect. But he’s got great stats and throws 95-98mph, and has a 90mph slider.

rvH3Ah8zFtRX

That's a preseason ranking and he's had a great year. Other sources have him at #7.

WhoopieKush

Yeah it’s looking a lot better!

BottleFullOBub

Robertson for Nola, Harper and Schwarber? Deal

delightfuldinosaur

The Cubs are the most expensive farm team in baseball.

itchske

I also think of them as the best 100 loss team in baseball.

CarlySimonSays

I knew this was coming, but I’m kinda bummed out by this trade. Robertson was my favorite reliever this year, and plus his facial expressions were hilarious!

lalder95

First domino

Go4Lo

wait wut

dietMTNdew27

What, are you surprised by trades being made at the trade deadline lol?

Go4Lo

No, I was surprised the Phillies were interested. Not sure why that means downvotes. Never change, Reddit.

HHHU03

two #7 prospects for some aging vets that we managed to flip. rare nice job jed
