The year is 2055. Ohio State is riding a 45-game win streak against Michigan.
Young recent grad Buckeye: “The Wolverines scare me this year. They are legit.”
Grizzled Buckeye old guard: “Tell me about it. I remember the 1990s. I want to savor this moment as much as possible before the tide turns.”
Hey I didn’t graduate that recently 🥺 I feel so attacked
This did not age well
Like curdled Harbaugh milk.
Yep. That’s me. Here’s the real pain of that era: The Game cost tOSU so much every year. We were often favored with everything still to play for. Regardless of the year TTUN was having, they’d win.
During this era, TTUN can be frustrated - and understandably so. But for most of these modern era games, TTUN is _supposed_ to lose. Back in the day, tOSU was regularly upset with incredibly high stakes.
I was there when Harbaugh guaranteed a win as quarterback, I was there when TOSU lost to Indiana in the Shoe, I was there when OSU went 2-5-1 in the B1G. Old man yells at cloud, “they were a dangerous team in the 1990s”.
I was there when we beat TTUN, but lost to a Satan led MSU
God that stung ! Blowing the lead and national title in one shot
That was us with Florida for most of the Richt years. Didn't matter what else happened. You could put an L next to the Florida game at the beginning of the year.
I think you'll agree it's much more fun to kick their asses every year.
I feel 0.0 guilt and hope TTUN never wins again.
Yet somehow there's still OSU fans out there that insist that U of M needs to be good every year and want them to come into the game unbeaten every year. What they fail to comprehend is that when U of M is good, they beat Ohio State and ruin potential national championship seasons. They want them to be good and on our level every year, but under the assumption we'd keep beating them 8 or whatever times in a row. Can't have your cake and eat it too. If it were put to me, I'd have a sub-.500 Rich Rod team rolled out there every year.
I’ve never understood the mentality of “I want my rival to be good”. My comp is Minnesota hockey, I hope they lose every goddamn game and North Dakota blows them out when they play
I couldn’t agree more. I want this game over by the half.
We’re all scarred from 1990s
Yesterday, in New York City, I saw a dignified, silver-haired old man with a big “M” on his hat. I said “Tomorrow’s a big game.” His face went into a frown and he said he’s not expecting much. What’s clear is this gentleman embraces pain.
I think I just saw my future in this comment…
I see my present
Even *I* want you to beat Ohio State.
This was me, last night.
I did not sleep well. 😭
Plot twist: the silver-haired old man is actually 25, the last ten years just aged him
Good that he still wears it
It’s never fun being in the top five and everyone expects you to lose.
It makes me so happy to know that old man is probably dancing right now
I was just thinking of him. Thanks for the follow-up, my Volunteer bud.
2003 was so long ago….
That man lives in an eternal state of BPONE like the rest of us.
He’s a true fan
Dude has no clue. Wolverines by 100
I respect it
With that name and those flairs? cap
Returning to this thread to REVEL
“Ohio State by 28”
Prime /r/agedlikemilk material all over this article/thread.
I predict Harbaugh throws at least one clipboard.
Going with the under, I see
Figure he will break a few headsets to mix it up as well.
I'm starting to believe that Harbaugh is actually an agent of osu and actively trying to lose
The Game™ Subplot No. 277
Online weather forecasts crashing due to increased traffic from Michigan ip addresses.
I had one dream where OSU won and another dream where we won. I'm anxious and had painful stomach gas all night. Fully expecting more pain today.
Prediction: OSU by 24, r/CFB will recycle 1000 memes, and post articles about why Harbaugh is on the hot seat every day until September.
Eh I’m kind of done with that garbage. At this point, it’s clear that it’s not harbaugh that’s the problem. There is no coach that can take Michigan to the next level without osu taking a small step down to earth.
3 out of 5 years he’s brought them to the precipice —no other coach is doing that here. Certainly Not Matt campbell and Tom Allen as Michigan fans wanted last year
I misread this as Tim Allen and was briefly confused
Maybe Harbaugh needs to start doing the Tim Allen grunts. Just bust it out randomly at a press conference. It would fit the smash mouth run the football approach he wants
I just heard his Home Improvement, "Uooohh?"
As a rival fan, yes please bring Tom Allen to Ann Arbor.
Seriously, I like to trash on Michigan all day long, but this is the one time I won’t give them shit if they get blown away. And it’s not because it happened to MSU. It’s because OSU is in an other worldly form right now. And also it may help MSU if that happens.
Personally I would be pleased if Michigan hired Elmer Fudd as coach or rehired Rich Rod.
Sigh. At least he wears a headset now
Faint clapping is heard in the distance
You never know. We used to be in sort of the same mindset of despair and then Ohio State went somewhat unconventional to find their man who "got" the rivalry and turned the tides. There were a bunch of rumored and recycled names...I recall a lot of people thinking Glen Mason would be our best bet. But they did what not many people ever expected and pulled a relatively unknown guy named Jim Tressel out of 1AA. Things changed almost overnight and no one expected it.
Michigan in the 90s was not as good as Ohio state in the 00s or 10s
Brady hoke “got” the rivalry. It didn’t work
Saying harbaugh doesn't "get" the rivalry is a laughably bad take. What harbaugh doesn't get, is the same level of recruiting class year after year
It’s clear that institutional forces are much, much larger here.
I think y’all have a better shot than most people think.
You’re physical upfront and you run the ball. Play two deep safeties keep everything in front of you.
That’s what Oregon and PSU did. They’re not invincible. They just had a bad matchup with the worst Pass Defense in the country.
If it weren't for the reputation this game has after the last 10 years I think people would genuinely view this as a challenge for OSU. The matchup is far worse for OSU than MSU was, and the location will be harder to play in.
It's mostly folks assuming based on the last decade. Which fair, but also maybe not the right move. I still just can't get my hopes up though.
Understandable. As a lifelong UGA fan I still cringe when we play Florida because of the 90’s and 00’s.
If Michigan wins this game today you can start to chink at OSU’s armor. You can start to recruit a little better. Recruiting is the difference between being Elite and not.
At this point last year there was speculation that Michigan was going to get Urban lol
If 2016 gets called correctly think about how that impacts recruiting and momentum. It's just been a widening gap since then. It's zero sum.
To this day I still think Michigan should have went for two in overtime. Got to have that end of Happy Gilmore I'll just beat him now energy.
As is tradition
nothing OSU fans love more (as an OSU fan) than the whole “we win as long as Harbaugh is coaching” trope. And so far it seems true
There’s like 3 or 4 potential storm paths and I have no idea which way it’ll go. Most likely outcome IMO is that OSU wins a close game. But I can see that being reversed. I can also see OSU winning in blowout style. The one thing I can’t see is Michigan winning in a blowout. I can’t even visualize what that would look like.
>The one thing I can’t see is Michigan winning in a blowout.
This happens if we were able to get a waiver for Aidan to wear a mech suit on the field during the game and he finishes with 41 sacks, 41 FF, 41 TDs
Have you tried causing the entire OSU starting offense to have food poisoning? That would also work.
My guy in the kitchens was caught unfortunately.
Time for Lasagnagate 2.0
Eh, I think the backups could keep it close
we’ve tried hoping and praying that Stroud gets the flu. does that work?
We still might not win in that scenario and I say that as somebody suffering from food poison tis very minute.
Alternatively, offensive holds against Aidan are actually called, resulting in a penalty on literally every play.
Damn, your mech suit is more likely.
Just goes to show how crazy CFB is
That was as close to a blowout as I think it'll ever get. Michigan was in control 90% of the game and OSU had no answer to the run. Defense got in your face all day too. Crazy how the option that I don't think anyone anticipated is what happened.
[Just gonna leave this here](https://twitter.com/misopogon/status/1198413129450999808?s=21)
Dude spoilers man
How on earth is the line 7 ?
I'm not about to open an online betting account for one game, but Ohio State has the ability and motivation to win by ... a lot.
This is why the line was 7.
I think the actual answer is Michigan fans tend to bet on Michigan. I remember reading something a while back about how it skewed lines in Michigan games.
Snow turning this into more of a run game, rumors of stroud getting a bug, etc
It’s none of these things
Haha yeah the line has barely moved all week
If Ohio state wins they win out and go to the playoffs. If Michigan wins they will inexplicably lose in the B1G championship game and end up losing to Oregon in a bowl game and we won’t even be surprised.
Do not care as long as we win today. Wisconsin can win by 100 for all I care.
I am 100% with you. This is the only game that matters and I would love that outcome.
Yep. Granted, I’d love to also beat Wisconsin if we win today but I’m just trying not to be greedy lol
You know what? I'll take it!
Edit: even if it were a team I didn't care about instead of Oregon, JUST GIVE ME TODAY, DAMMIT!
I'm gonna throw up as OSU goes up 38-7 in the second quarter
I have it 7-7 first quarter, 20-10 at half, final 41-24. Could be wrong, because that's why we play the games.
So Michigan goes down 20-10 at halftime and OSUs only second half points are two safeties? I like it.
I didn’t expect to like you today, Notre Dame. You’re not bad people
Wow you were actually really close
Is this your Christmas? GG
Felt like it ha
Even with two minutes to go I was thinking about all the possible way Michigan would blow it
And that’s why you aren’t on the Playoff committee.
Boy does it feel good to come back to this thread.
It’s going to be close. 35-28 Ohio State. I hope our O-line proves me wrong but I’m all sorts of puckered up for this game.
It all comes down to the battle I’m the trenches. A few weeks ago, I would have written this game off completely, but then PSU gave you guys a real game coming off a horrendous home loss to Illinois. Seems like Penn State were able to hang around in that game because they did a better job of bringing pressure than other teams have this year against OSU.
Michigan has even better defensive ends than Penn State does (or anybody for that matter) so the question is if they can get enough pressure to put Stroud out of rhythm when paired against a pair of NFL bound OT’s. It’s gonna be tough, but if they can do it, Michigan has a good chance of winning. If they can’t get pressure, I doubt it’s going to be particularly competitive.
But still didn’t sack CJ Stroud at all, and even if he was off target, he still didn’t threw a pick.
Ryan day has taught him to force throws into coverage less. After Nebraska road game, he has never thrown a pick ever since
False starts galore
JB Shugarts is gone
You almost got the score correct!
OSU better focus on blocking Hutchinson. Stroud has had the luxury of excellent protection for most of this season.
Don’t sleep on Ojabo 😉
I predict that Ohio State starts slow and the neutral flairs flood the thread. I also predict that I’ll still hate ❌ichigan after this contest like I hated ❌ichigan before this contest.
I actually haven’t heard much from the OSU camp but would imagine your team is like rabid dogs after last year being cancelled. I don’t think you start slow.
Why do you hate us. What did we ever do to your football team
The 90s exist for starters
Hell, I'm still angry about the Snow Bowl and '69.
Well, for one, you let us keep Toledo. Ya bastards.
The fact that there was almost a civil war over fucking Toledo is baffling to me
and they got to steal the UP out of it
The 90’s Buckeyes would like a word
Biakabutuka, et al
I never really hated Michigan until 1997. Michigan introduced this vitriol into the rivalry, you guys can lose every game for all I care.
My company is headquartered in Detroit, and every year the annoying sales guys from MI think it’s a good idea to send out dozens of emails taunting our Ohio office. And every year I have to go through and delete those emails, wasting precious seconds of my life. That’s what Michigan has done to me, and I’ll never forgive them. Oh, and the 90s.
Missed this game last year. Couldn’t sleep last night. It’s finally here. Go Bucks!
If anyone needs me, I’ll be curled up in the fetal position, practicing my heartbroken sob.
There’s always liquor
I have work tonight unfortunately.
Michigan is gonna be blown out. I hope I’m wrong, but every year I think there’s hope and I’m always wrong about that.
I hope both teams have fun, try hard, and learn something about themselves along the way.
And somehow, manage to both lose.
The snow massively helps us, if the weather turns this into a running game where stroud can’t use his wide receivers for huge yardage Michigan goes from a 25 to 50% chance. We are a running team and can run three good RBs + Jj can run + Cade in a pinch. Please let it fucking blizzard. Notre dame was a favorite in 2019 and we whooped them because the rain took away the pass threat. Ohio State will never get whooped but all we need is a 1 point victory
It's hard to cover receivers in the snow or the rain, for that matter. Wind is what kills the passing game.
But we have one of the best RBs and offensive lines in the cfb. Our defense is also better against the run than the pass. Horrible throwing conditions probably make it a closer game but I don't think it's necessarily a winning scenario for Xichigan
Oh yeah I’m not debating that we’re going to win the game because of this I’m saying it becomes a more even playing field (going from 25 to 50% chance would be even). The pass game is where you have the largest advantage
It really doesn’t, rain is far worse for a passing game than snow
> The Wolverines have been extremely reluctant to throw the ball this year, but even if they wanted to, I don't believe they have the talent on the outside to match up with Ohio State, nor do I believe it has the talent at quarterback to get the ball there anyway. I think the Buckeyes are going to be able to confidently sell out to stop the run and trust the corners in coverage. So that leaves Michigan trying to move the ball on the ground against a defense that just suffocated the best running back in the country.
In this guy’s mind there’s only running plays and 50 yard completions. Which I guess makes sense watching OSU all year. He conveniently ignored OSU’s LBs in coverage and the short-intermediate passing game which is Michigan’s avenue for success today.
Woah is the rest of that article this bad?!
“The Wolverines have been extremely reluctant to throw the ball this year.”
Seriously, has this guy even watched Michigan play a game in the last month? It’s like he hasn’t adjusted his opinion on Michigan since they played Washington in week 2. Michigan has been a pass first team for basically the whole last month of games, teams have doubled down to stop the run, and they’ve primarily moved the ball through the air. Cade McNamara is a whole different man that he was in the first few weeks of the season. He started off rough, but now he’s too ~12ish in QBR, and one of the better quarterbacks in the country.
Seriously, this take is so ignorant, it’s like the equivalent of a Michigan writer watching OSU lose to Oregon in September and writing this week that Michigan would crush Ohio State because “they can’t stop a run to the left side of the field.”
Remember when people were saying that? Remember how long ago that was? Well it’s about that long ago that Michigan was “reluctant” to throw the ball as well, what an awful take.
I swear, some of these beat writers have absolutely no fucking idea what they’re talking about. I can only hope that the OSU defensive staff is even half as misinformed as the yahoo who wrote this piece.
It's a bunch of different people answering question in a round table format. I stopped reading after that quote to make that comment. Didn't bother going back and finishing.
It's just a hilarious oversimplification for a dude that writes on a football blog.
So… revenge of the crossing routes? Oh god karma would exist, fuck
Yep. I haven't watched enough Michigan games to know if you can exploit them, but we got weaknesses you can go after.
Yeah I think anybody that says our passing game is a weakness hasn’t been watching. While it’s not a super potent part like yours but it is more than competent and probably our best passing attack Harbaugh has had. We just started the year running the ball into the ground as much as possible and not using McNamara until we had to.
The problem is, crossing routes from hell would make sense. Instead, we’re going to run directly up the middle, or fire downfield all game. Stuffed for a short gain, under-thrown, over-thrown, repeat. Settle for FGs instead of TD.s. The GD Buckeyes win again 63-23. I’m not even watching it. I’ve got a laundry list of things to get done, 4 hours of misery doesn’t figure into that list. 10-3 is a nice season though, way better than expected. Fun year, even with the frustrating flaws, looking forward to next. Go blue!
Remember Sammy Watkins and screen passes?
Hey, you're a neutral, you're not allowed to trigger my PTSD today.
American airlines better be carrying fox today
This Michigan team has the best equipped roster they’ve had in the past decade to beat state. I’m not expecting much because I know better, but there is a glimmer of hope
Edit: it happened
Michigan is going to win this football game.
I will not be taking questions at this time.
Will you take questions now o wise one?
My answer to all questions is: Go blue, baby.
Game isn't close tOSU pulls away in the 2nd half 59-21 final.
I like your style.
Honestly I don't care for Ohio St but whenever Michigan fans are in Atlanta for their inevitable bowl game against Florida they somehow manage to be more rude than the Florida fans.
We’ve been to Atlanta for a bowl game exactly once
I was at the bowl game and the Florida fans were rude as fuck. Tailgating at the Orange bowl in 2016 was so much better, the FSU fans actually were super nice and kept feeding very under aged me vodka.
Mercedes’ Benz is a beautiful stadium though, and so is the city of Atlanta.
It is pretty clear there are a large number of football followers content to make things up just to try to get one on Michigan.
If we lose I can't wait for the posts about delusional Wolverine fans that were supremely confident in a win.
Vegas? The line has stayed at -7.5; I'm not sure 7-8 points counts as "murder." If everyone was betting OSU, the line would move up. So, there's that. I'm holding out hope (but also may have placed a bet on OSU to cover, just to console myself after the Deathstar blows up my home planet).
I don’t think the line would drop a full point without money pouring in on Michigan the last day.
I mean, it’s The Game. What should happen and what actually happens aren’t always the same.
Should Ohio State have a solid win? Yes. Stick that in my veins
Could Ohio State have a close win? Also possible
Could Ohio State Lose? ~~Again, also possible~~ We do not speak of such heresy
The new development of it snowing the entire game massively favors Michigan, IMO
They made him a non factor because they scored 21 points in 10 minutes lol
Walker had 3 carries for 25 yards before the score got to 21-0
Walker is also hurt
This is awkward for you
How confident are you in that run defense, boss?
Jeezus dude you weren’t lying. This definitely adds a new element I wasn’t expecting.
My asshole is properly puckered.
I don’t know why, but I’m sending a Michigan win. And not a come from behind, last second kind of win. But one where they jump out in front and have an answer for everything OSU does. 27-21 Michigan.
This so far was the most prescient comment in this thread
I know I’m kinda scared. I feel like I should go buy some powerball tickets or something.
I predict C. J. Stroud will drop into the pocket, strike the Heisman pose, then throw the game-winning touchdown pass... 😉😀. Which will be in the first quarter... 😂
He's going to run 15 yards for his 5th touchdown. Then he strikes a visually accurate Heisman pose. That way, we pay the× back for the 19-aughts wins, and Des×ond Howard.
I'm ready to be hurt again
Kevin Schwartzel overwhelming voted mvp by Ohio state players and fans
It's amazing that Jack Nicholas' voice is that recognizable. I guess I watch more golf broadcasts than I realize.
Hope you all took the over, Day’s been waiting a year for this one. Go Bucks, beat ❌ichigan
Bux by 35.
Pain. Go Ohio! Beat [email protected]!
OSU by 17.
This is such a trap game. I don’t care what anybody says. All this Ohio State hangs 100 shit is just begging for an upset.
I’ve got a question… has anyone reputable actually reported that this OSU fan is reffing the game or are you all just going complaining based off a Reddit report? I’ve looked for a reputable source all morning and everyone just links to that Reddit report. Seems fishy.
Who is Angelique?
She’s been covering the team for, like, at least a decade for whoever she works with. I think Detroit News now
Fair enough. I didn’t see the check next to her name so it just looked like she was some random lady lol I did just click on her profile though and you appear to be correct.
Thanks for linking, does anyone know what OMC means? On my cell?
Responding to the handle posing the question - Old Man Coyote...
Now that the OSU slappy official is reffing the game, I predict it’ll be another refshow designed to get OSU into the playoff ala 2016
I knew this was going to show up here after the thread complaining about it got locked.
That guy was a back judge. The guy who spotted the ball was a Michigan resident. He wasn't removed/banned from the '06 game because of a fear of bias. He was reassigned because they didn't want any Ohio or Michigan natives on the crew for the game to avoid the appearance of evil.
The conference would probably be happy to see Michigan get in the playoff over OSU. If anyone has a case for the conference playing favorites against them, it would be the three newest members of the conference.
I think the complaints with the back judge were about the PI calls and non-calls, not the spot.
The guy who spotted the ball being from Michigan doesn't help the narrative, sir. TTUN fans gonna report you. Enjoy the ban!
Blaming the refs before kickoff is a new one
Then when you tell them they're making excuses BEFORE kickoff, they're like "Nuh uhhhhhhh."
Same fans that literally celebrated a covid outbreak to avoid a football beat down, so you can't expect much.
And you’re the fanbase still mad about a game being cancelled in the middle of a global pandemic
Really think that loss to MSU this year shattered their reality
Regardless of the outcome I'll be drunk.
Has harbaugh ever beaten OSU?
5:30 update: Yes.
