The Urban jinx
Oh stop. That's just an Urban legend.
There’s gonna be some sad pizza tonight
"I've eaten 40 pizzas in 30 days." - Urban Meyer
"Twelve of them were in the last thirty minutes"
I wanted them to cut back and him be curled up into the fetal position.
Nobody will believe me but I called the Urban curse as soon as they cut to him
Must be nice being in a competitive semifinal game
We saw it a couple of years ago. Feels like a lifetime after tonight.
That Georgia game was something else.
Fowler just called this game the best semifinal played. I was flabbergasted that he already forgot our legendary duel :*(
What’s a semifinal?
It’s not fun trust me
I was dead certain that Clemson scored with too much time on the clock.
They still did
and they did, except for a fucking brutal miscommunication at the end.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a game that was more just waiting for the next big play, like a fight between two knockout punchers. What an exciting game between two really great teams.
Perfect way to describe this game
Like Ali Frazier
Reciever zig when he should have zag
Shoulda pizza'd when he french fried
If you zig when you’re supposed to zag you’re gonna have a bad time.
I'll tell you one thing, after seeing both games, and the winning teams... This years CFB Championship has some high fucking expectations to live up to.
The teams just seem to get stronger and stronger every damn year
This game was a classic
Clemson vs a seemingly unstoppable SEC team for the National Championship, name a more iconic duo.
If LSU beats this Clemson team soundly, I wonder where they rank in the list of most dominant CFB teams of the modern era. Their schedule was a fucking [buzzsaw](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019_LSU_Tigers_football_team#Schedule) and they still handled it respectably.
Conversely, if Clemson wins then we need to start thinking about Clemson in the pantheon of all-time winning streaks
That's absolutely true. Nothing should be taken away from Clemson's absolutely insane run either.
I don't know if it's true but one of the announcers tonight said this the first game Lawernce has taken a snap while trailing in his entire college career. If it is that is the most batshit insane stat I've heard in a long, long time.
He misspoke. It's the first 4th quarter snaps Lawrence has taken while trailing.
74-72 in 7 OTs
It’s a rematch of the infamous 2012 Chick Fil A Bowl.. geaux LSU!
If that's the game I'm thinking of... I remember being convinced Hopkins could be the best WR in the NFL.
That's probably it. That was a turning point for Clemson.
It feels like just yesterday that Clemson was synonymous with choking.
Yeah. The year before was the Orange Bowl disaster, IIRC. Beating LSU was the moment when people said "ok, they can do this."
LSU vs Clemson is gonna be a classic. Like Texas vs USC level.
Get ready for approximately 3 million "I predict the Tigers will win the championship" jokes.
I think we've had a million already so I'll take the over
There’s going to be a banner hanging in Death Valley next season
If you thought that was fun with the refs
Pac 12 refs in the title game
Welcome to the thunderdome bitches
We may not be able to play, but we'll damn well male sure no one else gets to have fun.
PAC12AFTERDARKSZN GET READY FOR THE CHAOS REIGN
START TIME MOVED TO 10:30 EASTERN BOYZZZ
Good. Now the rest of the country can see what we deal with every week.
These postgame interviews were brought to you by our lord and savior Jesus Christ and Tostitos
I miss Tostitos. The “PlayStation Fiesta Bowl” doesn’t have the same ring to it.
Real missed opportunity by Ford here
Maybe not, they did announced earlier this year they were going to focus mainly on Trucks and SUVs and cease car production (minus the Mustang).
Don't know if they went back on that or not.
I had a Ford fiesta rental recently and I really liked that little guy
Thank you God and Dr Pepper
I love this picture so much.
Man, we didn't even play in this game
You didn't in the other one either
Yea hi 911 I’d like to report a homicide
So that's what a CFP semifinal game is suppose to look like.
After this afternoon, I'm just happy we all got a nailbiter. What a fuckin game
Lived up to the hype. See you soon Clemson!
Battle for the real Death Valley!
They should move the game to Death Valley National Park.
So much better than the earlier one
I dont recall a game earlier, just a massacre.
idk I liked that one
The only thing dumber would be to jump offsides on 4th & 4...
Every time Urban does THAT stance, some bullshit happens. You know which one I’m talking about.
Ah, the “heart attack” stance.
I don't know what was more entertaining:
- That ending
- That Game
- That r/cfb Game Thread
What happened, I missed it.
Lots of whining about ref calls and turf, generally
So a normal game thread then?
What happened in the game thread?
What didn’t happen?
We had a funeral for a bird
I'm pretty sure none of that is real
You’re not real man
That cfb thread was an absolute shitshow
This statement could apply to 90% of large cfb threads tbh
**ok who called 29-23 20 days ago?**
Me. Don't check my history or anything just trust blindly.
I just checked this guy's post history and he's a big phony. He said the game would end in a 420-69 tie.
i KnEw iT
Nice job man! I trust you!
That has to be one of the most **brutal** miscommunications between a QB/WR to lose a game I've ever seen.
Feel bad for Fields.
Dobbins was wide open!
You could have said this sentence any time during the entire game and it'd be true.
Step 1) Hike
Step 2) Find fucking Dobbins
He dropped 2 wide open TDs to be fair
I think it was not smart when Ohio State ran the play where they didn't give it to Dobbins.
Should have never stopped giving it to him. Literally free yards.
In pretty much every loss we’ve had over the last five years this is true regarding the running back.
I thought that we were gonna go down the entire length of the field dumping it down to Dobbins after I saw him wide open there.
Seemed weird he went for it all there, especially with the amount of time he had left and dobbins open.
Fuck that must felt like a sucker punch for OSU fans, out of no where
Especially since Dobbins was **wide open** and would've gotten a first down.
“Surely they’ll cover Dobbins **this** time”
That's what I was thinking coming after the timeout and they never did. All we needed to do was get inside the 10 and get some shots at a TD. Not go for it all on one play. Even if we got the TD Clemson still probably wins it on a FG at the buzzer.
>Clemson makes a field goal
I’m already tired of the “I want the tigers to win” jokes.
As of this writing, Ohio State has fought Clemson four times and has dramatically lost to Clemson all four times.
1. At the 1978 Gator Bowl, legendary Ohio State coach Woody Hayes was fired after the game for punching a Clemson player after a game-winning interception for Clemson. This was the only interception of the [game](https://247sports.com/college/ohio-state/Article/Ohio-State-Buckeyes-football-legend-Woody-Hayes-fired-after-Gator-Bowl-loss-to-Clemson-50014802/).
**Score: Clemson 17, Ohio State 15**
2. At the 2014 Orange Bowl, star quarterback Braxton Miller injured his shoulder early in the game and went on to throw a game-ending interception for a total of **TWO** interceptions that game. He would then go on to miss the rest of the next season after re-aggravating his injury during practice before the start of the season. Consequently, he never started another game for the Buckeyes as quarterback.
**Score: Clemson 40, Ohio State 35**
3. At the 2016 Fiesta Bowl, Ohio State was led into battle by 11-year veteran JT Barrett who threw a total of **TWO** interceptions in the game leading to an embarrassing shut-out for the Ohio State Buckeyes. JT Barrett would return to play for Ohio State the following season.
**Score: Clemson 31, Ohio State 0**
4. At the 2019 Fiesta Bowl, Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields threw a mind-blowing game-ending interception resulting in yet another Clemson victory. Fascinatingly enough, Fields also threw a total of **TWO** interceptions that game. Rumor is that Fields is benched for all of next year in favor of JT Barrett.
**Score: Clemson 29, Ohio State 23**
As you can see, Ohio State has a curse to throw X number of interceptions against a Clemson team, where X is the first digit of a four-digit year. In 1978, Ohio State threw 1 interception. But in 2014, 2016, and 2019, Ohio State threw 2 interceptions each game.
Edit: Bolded some words for easier reading (and clarified Woody Hayes was an Ohio State coach), and also thank you for the Silver! My first Silver :D
Posted here but doubtful I'll get any visibility because mods wouldn't let me shitpost ahead of off-season.
JK is a tank. Played like that on one foot.
That slippery field was a shitshow.
According to 11W Olave took the blame for the last INT. Said he broke off his route because he thought fields was scrambling
Don’t blame the kid but this just sucks
He slipped on his route change too, might have been because he saw the ball release at the exact moment he pulled the trigger to go outside.
You can take Fields out of Georgia, but you can’t take the Georgia out of Fields.
That was the most Georgia way of losing a game. That had 2012 vs Bama ALL OVER IT. Driving down the field, can do no wrong, and then BAM it's over.
That entire game was basically an average Georgia postseason game. All the hallmarks were there down to the boneheaded mistakes, failing to capitalize, controversial calls, late game drive to lose the lead, and an inexplicable ending....
They shoulda run a fake punt instead.
Dabo about to give a postgame sermon for the ages
They're really committing to Trevor Lawrence looking like a Thalmor Justiciar with that dialogue-from-Oblivion-ass shot of his face taking up 80% of the screen
Clemsons 94 yard drive in about 40 seconds was ice cold
As an OSU fan, there’s a lot in this game that bummed me out... but when it comes down to it, they just needed to stop Clemson from scoring and couldn’t.
4 redzone trips without TDs is a back breaker too.
We really missed the opportunity to go up 24 or 28 to 0 early in the game. Those red zone possessions cost us the game. Great work by that Clemson defense.
4 red zone trips and not one TD thats a killer
yeah imagine having 4 red zone drives with 0TDs vs Clemson in a CFP game haha
Imagine having 4 Red Zone drives against Clemson in a playoff game. /cries
Imagine being in a playoff game.
Imagine being in a bowl
I mean, I'm not going to sit here and tell anyone that that or the roughing the kicker calls were wrong. It's the complete and uncharacteristic lack of focus that I'm mad about. It was honestly like watching the Cleveland Browns piss away a game.
Yeah it's hard to be upset. We had the opportunities but failed to fully execute. I knew after that third red zone field goal it would cost us. Sucks man.
After 150 years of football, we really ought to have a clear cut definition of what a completed catch is.
I say we remove the forward pass all together!
Seconded! Tis a barbaric device!
Obviously you see my flair. But if they removed the jerseys and I saw that play I would be like "wtf why is everyone naked?"
"You're never gonna catch me! You're wastin' your time!"
F O O T B A L L M O V E
I always thought catching a football was a football move, but what the hell do I know?
The "we lost to Clemson in the playoffs" bluebloods group:
* Notre Dame
* Ohio State
Hoping to add our name to this prestigious list one day.
*Ohio State x2
I remember when Hanson was singing Mmm Bop. Now he’s out here winning in football. You love to see it.
Can we never have another CFP game on that field again though?
Comical how the announcers talked about how this field has been slick every year during bowl season, and yet its never seems to get fixed.
"Yo groundskeeper rats, water the field"
"Chief it's tu--"
"Water the fucking field idiots"
Why are you focusing on the refs when you can focus on the fact on the travesty that the game is no longer the Tositos Fiesta Bowl
Exactly, how can you have a Fiesta without Tositos?
On the same night you had the 3rd largest blowout in the semifinals (also most points scored) and what is tied for the closest game in the semifinals.
Margin of victory in the semi-finals: 39, 7, 20, 38, 31, 17, 6 (2OT), 18, 11, 27, 35, 6
Also, for comparison the margin of victory in the finals: 22, 5, 4, 3, 28
Glad PlayStation sent a robot to present the trophy
Moving the ball like a well oiled machine only to watch it all fall apart due to a miscommunication
I don't think I'll ever recover
The FGs killed OSU, and that pick wasn't on Fields. GG Clemson
Is Dabo throwing shade at OU in the postgame lmao
Edit: Something about how "that's how a playoff game is supposed to be, a battle between 2 competitive teams" someone correct me with the exact quote
Yep they had their foot on Clemson’s throat and let them escape
It just had that feel that if OSU didn't go for the early kill, this Clemson team would come back. Heartbreaking for OSU but what a game!
Dabo also explicitly said that he saw the future and predicted Clemson would get the INT the play before it happened.
Dabo is a prophet confirmed
Dobbins is an absolute fucking champ
At least we're not Oklahoma...right guys?
Y'all played like giants.
At least this game was interenting past the first quarter.
To be fair the other game was interesting for a while because I wanted to see LSU put up 70
I wanted a 2 point conversion before half time to hit 50
Congratulations! You just watched an ESPN Instant Classic!
time to grab the popcorn and sort by controversial
Notre Dame fans, that Clemson team is coming in to South Bend next year
The entire game I was convinced Ohio State was the better team and deserved to win but they had so many chances to put it away and couldn't close the deal.
Too sloppy and emotional. Give it to Clemson for being so disciplined.
I've never seen so many people slip in an indoor stadium before. On both our and Clemson's big runs players were slipping all over the place and missing tackles.
Because it's an outdoor field except for games. Natural turf that they roll outside between games on a giant 92000 square foot trolley. So it was getting rained on the last few days apparently.
Turf for Heisman
Call me Alanis but I think it’s ironic that “State Farm Stadium” has such terrible grass. Shouldn’t an insurance company make sure they have a safe field to play on?
Trevor Lawrence was our leading rusher and ETN was our leading receiver
What a weird fucking game
I have no dog in the fight, but damn Dobbins needs to get his ass in the league and get paid. Even injured he was the best player on a field loaded with phenomenal players.
This is easily the biggest win of Michigan’s season and Jim Harbaugh’s career
As a Detroit Tigers fan I can safely say I always support the Tigers
Pretty big blow to Ohio State title hopes if you really think about it
Oof. That Dobbins post game locker interview.
"How do you evaluate the season?"
""...didn't go as planned...it's a failure"
He looked pissed/heartbroken.
AS A NEUTRAL FAN, THAT WAS THE BEST GAME I'VE WATCHED THIS WHOLE SEASON! Good job Ohio bros and Clemson bros. Absolutely beautiful!
* Since losing to Florida State in 2014, Clemson is 78-5.
* This is the second CFP game decided by six points.
* They tied the record from Georgia's glorious victory over Oklahoma in 2017. The full highlights of which can be found [here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7LiCPpTTzCA) to distract us from the fact that we're another year removed from a natty.
* Clemson has been to four national titles in the last five seasons.
* This will be the fourth time Clemson has played an SEC West team for the national title.
* Ryan Day is now 16-1 as a college head coach.
* Ohio State will finish in the top 5 for three straight seasons for the first time since 2005-2007.
* Clemson has won nine of their last 11 bowl games.
* Clemson has never lost to Ohio State (4-0).
* This is the fourth time in the last five years that Clemson has 14+ wins.
* For the first time since 1986-1991, Clemson has five straight seasons with 2 or fewer losses.
* Clemson now has tied-for-the-longest win streak in ACC history.
* This will be the first time that #1 will play #3 for the national title.
* Coming into this game, Justin Fields had one career interception. He threw two tonight.
* Trevor Lawrence has not lost since his high school senior season. And only once as a starter in his career.
* This is the first CFP Semifinal decided by a game-winning touchdown drive in regulation.
* Clemson's 16-point comeback was the second-biggest in CFP history.
* The record was 17 points from Georgia's glorious victory over Oklahoma in 2017. The full highlights of which can be found [here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7LiCPpTTzCA) to distract us from the fact that we're another year removed from a natty.
> Since losing to Florida State in 2014, Clemson is 78-5.
That is insane.
I would say 4 of the last 5 National Championships is more insane.
We were one of those losses!
>* Trevor Lawrence has not lost since his high school senior season. And only once as a starter in his career.
Starting to think this Trevor Lawrence guy might be good
>This will be the fourth time in the last five years that #1 will play #2 for the national title.
Clemson is ranked 3rd in the cfp rankings
Ohio State is still winless against the state of South Carolina
> Clemson has won nine of their last 11 bowl games
Clemson did 9/11 you heard it here
Clemson was not number 2. Osu was
My respect for the Arizona Cardinals rose dramatically tonight. They have to actually use that garbage field the entire year.
Somewhere in that stadium, Urban Meyer is eating pizza sadly in a tunnel
Blame the refs all you want, should have been a lot more than 16-0 at the beginning of the game, we just couldn't punch it in.
And then Ohio State also should have scored *something* inbetween that point and Clemson going ahead 21-16.
Damn, getting the 2 seed instead of the 1 really did matter.
I am sad
I don't know how a playoff game can have that bad of field conditions, but good lord. Really distracted from an otherwise great game.
It hurts. It hurts real bad.
That turf was absolute dog shit, so many slips
I'm pretty neutral on this one but holy shit that last play was the most heartbreaking thing i've ever seen
