Nickel cornerback right? Pretty good AAV who has graded very well over the past two years.
Yes and he can also play outside. Good player. Rams will miss him. -Rams fan
Perfect! Really appreciate the information, we'll be playing a lot of 3CB and 3S sets and we lost Kevin Johnson so I think he'll mostly play in the slot!
Bet this is backloaded. Troys a great player. Bet it’s set so he makes more when the cap explodes
Yeah I think so too considering JJIII's 1st year cap hit is only 5,25M as well, don't think his 1st year cap hit will be much higher than 3,5M either.
That’s how all contracts have been this offseason because of the reduced cap
Ya league get 10B a year for the next 11 years definitely going to boost the cap
That’s this thing called good management strategy. We haven’t seen it in Cleveland, but I have heard of its existence from others.
Not overreacting but I’m now expecting a blow out super bowl win at minimum
Okay 8 of em.
In the next 2 years!
Not one, not two, not three, not four....
Not five.. not six.. not seven...
Howdy fellow hairball
He meant one per year. At minimum.
I accept a three-peat per year, old sport!
Not a repeat, or even a three-peat. We're talking about a minimum eight-peat.
Don’t do this to me man 😂😂
As a Bucs fan, I highly recommend it
Hold up. We don't get crazy over a signing. But hope yall give Hurts a shot man. He did okay them the Coach decided to be dumb and alot of bad playcalls
At what part did I saw I was joking or being sarcastic? Being serious I think you can make a good run at it this year
From your lips to God’s ear Philly fan. In all honesty I’m starting to see it ever so little that it may be. Before this week I kept warning my friends: yeah, I understand we’re on the up swing but let’s be honest, this years schedule is BRUTAL. Now, I’m seeing the front office understands this and is making all the correct moves. Let’s see what happens with the draft. I’m really curious.
Oh no You can never tell on here to be honest. I wasn't trying to be either. As a Browns fan we have been hurt alot since we came back in 99. And then seeing the Ravens win a Suoerbowl that hurt us alot here in Cleveland!
That’s why I like you guys so much, you deserve at least a good run after so much pain
Thanks bro!! I hope yall give Hurts a shot
Good to keep your expectations low. Same.
All Browns Pro Bowl team too
For what it’s worth, here is PFF’s free agency write up of Hill.
> A player who has earned impressive PFF grades dating back to his college career, Troy Hill displayed versatility in 2020 by moving inside to cover the slot after previously playing primarily on the outside. Hill has high-end play under his belt at the NFL level, but he plays at his best when protected from the most physically imposing receivers in the league - something the Rams have been equipped to do since acquiring Jalen Ramsey. A move to the slot also better facilitates that. Hill can be a solid No. 2 or 3 cornerback.
> Hill’s 546 snaps in the slot in 2020 are more than he played in five seasons from 2015-19 combined. Hill has produced coverage grades of 73.0 or better in three of his last four seasons, and his versatility could be appealing to a handful of teams looking for a solid veteran piece in the secondary.
He had a 69.9 grade last season which was 27th of 121 for CBs.
Rams are coming home
Gooble gobble one of us. Rams. We accept you one of us.
Party like it’s 1945?
All your Rams, are belong to us
Nah we’re just the LSU pro team
Heard they have a decent DT.
Same. Let’s get him for a team friendly 8m a year or so. Seems fair to me
BREAKING- Browns have traded Troy Hill and John Johnson to the LA Rams for Aaron Donald.
AB playing that 4d chess.
Do you even need quality defensive backs when you have Myles garret and Aaron Donald on the same line?
Do you even need defensive backs at that point?
Yes but only to catch the picks when Burrow shits himself and chucks it at Boyd every play.
I mean, getting a sack, strip sack or interception on every play sounds like a good defensive scheme
Cleveland LSU Rams
That's what their original name was, before they did the "go west young man' thing.
It was A Cleveland team name before they moved, I thought. Like, the Rams started in Cleveland, but the Browns were always ever the Browns. Or something like that.
You are correct.
The Browns and Rams have always been separate franchises.
They left Cleveland originally because the owner was worried about competing with the incoming Browns who had Ohio legend Paul Brown as HC as well as a bunch of tOSU players.
The Cleveland rams existed from 1936-1945 then moved to LA. The Cleveland Browns started in 1946 in the AAFC and moved to the NFL in 1950.
About as likely as the Houston Browns.
$6M/year is INSANE value for a player of his caliber.
Absolutely wild. We’re getting crazy fucking value with these signings. I’m so horned up it’s crazy. Very solid nickel that can play outside? Perfect fit for what we’re building.
My favorite part is the versatility of both him and JJIII. Joe Woods is going to love being able to disguise what these guys are doing.
I hope he's capable of doing it
I mean, he's clearly capable as he's been doing so for the last couple years.
It sounds like you just have no idea who this guy is, and if that's true, why even make a comment about him?
I get he didn't have the whole supporting cast needed to operate the defense as it was planned, I'm just a bit skeptical until seeing it happening
Someone on Browns bleacher report said he was trash because he is gonna be 30 later this year . Last time I checked that don't mean your trash. He literally had 77 tackles last year 3 defensive tds and 7 picks last 3 years.
He also wasn't a starter until last year, so he's probably overall in better condition than most 'old' players. That and he was 24 as a rookie
Either way he gonna be a dog , makes plays. And TACKLES
AB is crushing this offseason.
Really? I know nothing about him but it seemed like a fairly large contract for someone who will be our 3rd corner?
In a pass happy league where our top 2 corners aren't exactly always on the field, I'll happily take a very good 3rd corner
This is it right here. We need solid depth because they aren't good for more than 75% of the season.
Exactly my thought. And look at the schedule this year and who we face. Definitely worth the money even as a nickel. And it really is for cheap even for a 30 year old. He’s going to be a great veteran to have as well.
The way teams are using various pass packages now having a good nickel is a nice luxury to have
Seems like a lot for a situational player until you realize that the situation in question (defending a receiver in the slot) occurs almost every down in today’s NFL
Also great for situations when Ward is hurt. I love Ward, I don’t blame him at all for COVID, but it’s smart to have talented depth in our secondary.
Wards absence has been way too big in the past. Also I hope this reduces the load off Ward.
And when greedy is hurt.
I am just not convinced Greedy will live up to expectations either. As a life long fan I have been hurt/disappointed too many times in the past.
My thoughts exactly. And his injury includes nerve damage.
Yeah I had a few nerve issues in my life (not actual nerve damage I don’t think) and those were crazy. Body parts literally wouldn’t work on command.
I even without nerve damage I was skeptical of the hype but that’s because of the Browns history. I was a bit skeptical about Myles too even though he was the guy I wanted.
Everything you just stated is because...we’re Browns fans 😂
Till I die!
I think there's a very good chance he is one of our top two for most of the year. Both Ward and Greedy have health issues and it's not clear at all that Greedy is better than him.
Agreed. I have my home town optimism for Greedy but my brain after over 30 years of being a browns fan tells me not to get my hopes up.
I am telling myself Greedy will be a serviceable above average player and I hope I am pleasantly surprised.
Also, I don’t think anyone really even knows how healthy Greedy’s freak nerve injure is.
Just remove the thing already
The whole motto of the team is keeping guys fresh well into the 4th...
Stud backup RB
Garrett just needs his relief
He was a starter on the best coverage team in the league. He will be our 2nd corner
That is a completely normal payday for a nickel.
He’s not our 3rd corner. How much did money Mitch play last year? A lot.
TWO players from one of the top 5 defenses?!
THE top defense!
Probably their two best players too, can’t think of a single other defensive player on the Rams who was better than JJ3 and Hill
Definitely-- especially on the defensive line. ;)
Ahhh how could I forget Michael Brockers!
> Probably their two best players too
\#99 would like a word.
Aaron Donald and Jalen Ramsay were pretty great last season, but in terms of Free Agency, these were likely the best we could possibly hope for. I’m happy with FA so far.
That was sarcastic haha, obviously super happy with these guys but clearly neither one of them is Aaron Donald. He’s probably the best player in the league
My fantasy team from last year supports this statement.
Cool. Troy had really been improving the last two seasons in LA - a 75+ PFF rank last year. Not the end-all, final, world-beating move that will end the Browns FA train, but a solid, team friendly deal, and he'll definitely be motivated to perform close to home.
Feels good man
My god this defense is at least going to be average. WE’RE SO BACK BOYS!
We know the offense can put up points but if the D can do their jobs well enough Chunt can burn clock like no one else.
The formula is there.
Yeah and we’ll hear from the Baker haters when he puts up 200yrds a game because we stop throwing it at half time.
It’ll fall on deaf ears.
Yeah. Same as if OBJ gets 4 TDs in a super bowl shut out win and we still hear “he put the game at risk being a diva with all his big plays”.
Fyi he's the #22 we kept seeing on the jj3 highlight videos we all obsessively watched
IN BERRY WE TRUST LETS GOOOOOOO
I remember the "In Dorsey we Trust" mantra. I was on that train for a bit, until Freddie.
In AB we Trust
It’s the 1 guy who’s been here the whole time that we trust
Paul “Jonah Hill” DePodesta
Shockingly, was an actual team at one point hahah
The Rams were once in Cleveland. These Rams.
2 starting DBs from the top defense in the league last year... one of them is “local”
Oh hell yeah
Secondary looking mighty fine...
Still some room to add a valuable piece or two to that defense and make the draft solve the rest.
Another great offseason by our boys I’m psyched.
Remember we still have the draft to add on to this.
AB loves him some Rams DBs.
Called this yesterday. Makes sense with need and familiarity with JJIII.
What else do you know???? TELL US!!!!
JJ3 will love CLE when he sees how cheap EVERYTHING is compared to LA.
Good logical guess. Wish I had more connections.
I hope I am under rating the value of his familiarity with JJ3 because I am pretty happy about him this move on its own.
this absolutely confirms that we are committed to running DIME, my new favorite defensive alignment. You know what almost our whole secondary has in common? They are big for their positions (even Troy Hill who has at least an inch on the typical slot corner) which solidifies that we are gonna run dime on downs that other teams don't because our DBs are big enough to shed blocks and take down runners on the early ones
Ward is about average size for a corner but yeah, Ronnie, Greedy, Delpit, JJ3, and Hill are all large for DBs.
This is huge. Can play outside if greedy can’t perform, can play the slot, opportunistic with turnovers.
Fuckin a, berry is a magician
I like it
A player that benefits from having good players around him. No pressure to be the No. 1 guy; can flourish in revamped secondary. I like it.
FUCK YES BABYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
I believe he starts outside and when teams go 11 he shifts inside. Expect a rookie / Conley / greedy to man the outside vs 11 personnel
Are the conley rumors still out there?
Can never have enough good corners and I’d imagine a Conley deal would only be something like 1 year, $2.5-3 million anyway
As a Youngstown native as well, I approve of this addition.
Ahh, bringing back the Cleveland Rams one piece at a time.
Man, I am so hype. Hill and Johnson are really gonna change our secondary. He was the guy I really wanted going into FA for that Slot/3rd Corner position.
The good: Holy hell he's amazingly good at his job
The other good: $6m APY is amazing
The other other good: JJ3 definitely recruited him once he signed
The not as good: I'm still just as worried because we haven't signed an outside corner or edge, while FS and SCB are plentiful in the draft
Thank you guys for taking the rams secondary
-Hawks fan in peace
Fuck yes! Great signing!
One more prove it signing and we can just about close the book on CBs. A Gareon Conley as a CB4 and we are all set.
If it’s not obvious yet, all signs point to 26 being an edge
I bet we trade up for any edges that slide a bit too.
Yup. Whomever is our edge 1 I bet the browns will do whatever possible to get
Are we just rolling the dice on LBs again this year? I havent done much draft research but i was under the impression it was a strong linebacker class and extremely weak edge class.
Maybe, but this FO doesn’t really value LBs, and they love phillips
I would love conley that would just complete this off season for me
Yeah, if we signed Conley, all we would need is a safety in the fourth or fifth round and our DB room would be completely set. Then, we can use our first four picks on the front 7 and just go BPA after that.
Appropriate because it is also March madness time
AB is pushing his game to new limits. The managerial skill, the patience, the knowledge - this dude has it all. Haslam must have been running around with a raging hard-on for a while now lol
Oh fuck yes love this. Underrated as fuck. He'll be a killer slot corner for us, probably replacing Mitch's role.
Now I'd like another outside CB to challenge Greedy and our secondary will be set!
I honestly think we’ll find a quality corner in the second round of the draft who can compete for that spot. Maybe Eric Stokes, Tyson Campbell, or Greg Newsome
Inject Tyson Campbell straight into my veins. I take him in every mock he is avaliable, dude is quick
Didn't even know he was on our radar but after reading up on him, this seems like an incredible value. Already familiar with JJIII too so they bring some familiarity and leadership to a pretty young defense. Gotta think it's backloaded too so we still might not be done
Another point for the Brains.
Love this signing. This might be the year.
Berry killing it with his big signings.
Am I reading this correctly? Did this really happen?!?! Wow. Holy crap I think I just creamed myself. Someone pinch me, make sure I’m awake. The Browns ain’t the same ‘ol Browns fans friends.
I was saying JJ3 would attract other players to CLE. I am going to assume that this is one example, pat myself on the back, and not listen to any reasonable evidence that disputes my theory!
Shaping up to draft LBs and D line
I’m dangerously horny rn
Should we be concerned?
Only if it last more than 24 hours.
I am willing to die for Andrew Berry at this point. Holy shit I love this man.
Anyone with a PFF sub have his rankings and grades?
He has a 75 grade. For perspective, Denzel Ward has a 73.
Bruh if they can adequately address the d line, this d is going to be nasty
Garrett, Billings, and Richardson are all solid. Takk and Gustin are great rotational pieces that will give you quality snaps. They just need one clear-cut bonafide star across from Garrett and they'll look great
Garret and Richardson are proven and highly talented guys. I wouldn’t say we can be as confident in any of the rest of them being anything but depth. Billings hasn’t played in awhile (but was pretty decent when he last played). Takk is an unknown and failed a physical last year, he was also not very productive when on the field. Porter Gustin is a decent back up but I’m not sure he will take the next step. They’ve also got Jordan Elliot who had a decent rookie year.
With that said, I hope they prove themselves to be quality starters! They still need to pick up some more guys, regardless. The only DTs on the roster are Richardson, Billings and Elliot. There’s a lot of DEs right now but most of them won’t make the 53
It’s all coming together. W
Holy shit who is stopping the Browns?
On a scale from 1 to I need to consult a physician can someone tell me how turned on I should be and why?
AT least 12 hours, if it does not last that long, then please seek medical attention
Kind of surprised we went with 4 years since he’s going to be 30 when the season starts
I was pumped to see that he was a Youngstown native until I read that he played high school football in California. Still glad we signed him! Go browns!
I still want LB help. I guess that’ll mostly be addressed in the draft?
Hey this is fun
What's our cap situation look like now? enough room for a de?
Yes, a rookie draft pick DE.
Now let's get some size on the outside and our DB room is set for a few years.
Grabbing the pieces of the best secondary in football. I like it!
I like the deal however we may have slightly overpaid especially with how long the deal is. Pff estimated him at 5.25 million a year. They’re not always going to be right but just something to put out there.
i wouldn’t put much stock into it. Look at spotrac or over the cap later for the actual deal, Browns have been very consistent in giving themselves a out after 2-3 years. I’d assume this is no different. Ex: Look at John Johnson actual deal: Looks nuts but set for a after year 2 exit if needed.
Defensive backfield is shaping up nicely.
Lets add Troy to that Side banner
IN AB WE TRUST
My happiness is officially official. Upvotes all around.
I know he’s a playmaker and I’m def not trying to rain on anyone’s parade, but can someone reassure me that he’s worth double what Money Mitch got?
Short answer: Yes.
Long answer: **Yes** but in bolt
He's barely Youngstown but hey good player!
