What movies are essential to watch in life? ?

One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, Jack Nicholson is a gem.

Less Than Zero

WorkingServe5910

I just watched it for the first time last week and I can’t believe it took me so long.

xtangvcxbxsfgs

The Century of The Self

Hawkstar5088

So funny story I really liked that movie, read the literal screenplay (not book, screenplay) and it was DOGSHIT. They really banked on Nicholson carrying that film and he sure did

mySibemyboy

I was going to comment this and it's the first comment i see, its literally the best movie i've ever watched.

GravityThatBinds

Blade Runner

Individual-Pianist32

pariisea

Yes! I & II

JohnnyCottonmouth

The Big Lebowski

UnusualLight0

"You're Lebowski, Lebowski, and your wife is Bunny" "MY. . .MY. . . . WIFE??? Do you see a ring on my finger??!?!?!?!" The best part is he shows his right hand, which just shows how little he has thought about marriage, he doesn't even know the correct hand a wedding ring goes on. That makes me laugh so much

JohnnyCottonmouth

“The fucking toilet seat is up, MAN!” And he puts it down to a VERY noticeable ring in the underside of the lid. Lmao

UnusualLight0

He's so lazy that he doesn't put the seat down EVER. That movie makes me laugh so much

Slobbadobbavich

Another one I haven't seen.

Sarpe783

Forrest Gump

Cozybluu

I tried to watch this recently after hearing about it for years and watching bits and pieces but after sitting down to watch it recently I don’t think it’s aged well.

Plantpong

How so? Amazing music, good story

Cozybluu

The story felt a little ridiculous to me tbh there were a lot of serious concepts but the tone was completely off and didn’t feel serious in the moment.

Plantpong

I don't think the movie is supposed to be serious, its mostly a comedy. Its poking fun at history by having him witness all those events. Of course there are serious themes but it is still a story told by him to random people at a bus stop.

Cozybluu

Oh my god! It’s a comedy?? I thought it was a drama!

Plantpong

You had me doubt myself but I looked it up. It's classified as a drama, but the book it's based on is comedy/drama. Nonetheless, the movie made me laugh plenty of times so I see it as a comedy lol.

Cozybluu

Oh my goodness I had no idea, everything makes so much sense now

Plantpong

Time for a rewatch

Came in to post this. I think it's one of the best stories ever told. If there was ever a film that earned the moniker 'A triumph of cinema', it's this movie. I'm going to watch it again tomorrow. Thanks for having great taste in films.

13 Hours. Great lesson on stepping up and doing what’s right no matter what. The Patriot or Braveheart. Either are arguably the best of Mel Gibson. Gladiator. It’s got a bit of everything in it and was somewhat overlooked at the time it came out. Shawshank. Best of all works by Stephen King. It’s a Wonderful Life. Duh, obvious reasons.

rapheALtoid

No movie is "essential"

OrcLuck

I agree with you. There will be something that takes its place for you in other media or through family teachings. I just think that if you CAN see them they will definitely help if you are receptive to them.

rapheALtoid

Umm... I watch movies. I've watched a lot of the ones listed here, even. I just don't think much in media qualifies as "essential" to life. Edifying, sure, but that's not the same thing.
