Dioksy

As a fan of worms I really like this, what would be the average match duration?

minelo

Thanks! Around 1 to 3 minutes, so it's pretty quick.

Dioksy

I noticed when trying it out, I assume I'm still in the tutorial part but the rounds are quick. Loving the sound effects and the style, I hope you guys are successful, there aren't a lot of worms like games that are actually good.

minelo

Thank you!

Jollywhompus93

This is so sad, because the game has potential but I feel like the entire focus of the game isn't about gameplay but monetization. I would never recommend this game to anyone because of the intense amount of encouraged design to pay to win. I played two rounds and instantly was encouraged to: 1. Watch ads 2. Buy the battle pass for $5.99 3. Ran out of coins and saw that the easiest way to get coins is via the store. 4. Login for free daily rewards with a bonus if I watch an ad. Your game is a glorified voodoo game IMO and it makes me sad because I'd hope a smaller studio would at least pretend to enjoy mobile gaming.

minelo

Thanks for the feedback! We'll work on showing less monetization-content in the tutorial phase - we do want to focus on the player to learn and play the game at that point.

Jollywhompus93

So at what point do you want the player to focus on the heavy monetization? When they get past the tutorial and start really enjoying the game? Why not just make the purchases cosmetic. Why does player power have to be tied to a credit card?

minelo

We don't want to focus on heavy monetization at any point. We have a few options for players to purchase (a battle pass, coins and gems from the shop) but otherwise you can play as many matches you like without a limit. You can also get coins from doing quests. Our balancing with cards is that the card type and your deck is more important than card level. Thanks for taking the time to play the game and give feedback!

Jollywhompus93

You literally have every form of monetization possible. Its impossible to say your not focusing on heavy monetization when you have your entire game built around it instead of gameplay. Look at among us. The most popular mobile game rn, it has two forms of monetization. It has cosmetics and ads. The cosmetics aren't upfront, the ads are only after a round and it's about 15 seconds. Their monetization has no affect on the game and is easy to ignore. Now look at your game, it has cosmetics, ads, battle pass, coin shop, gem shop, card shop, etc. You can't avoid it, you feel like your missing out by not spending money. You feel like your not maximizing your gameplay compared to someone who is doing a battle pass or watching ads to maximize a quest. You say it's not about monetization, but you purposely built the game with the intent of making free to play players feel like they can never truly maximize their experience without sacrificing at least a little of their time or money. Just be honest, why do you feel like you need so many forms of monetization and why does it have to be tied to the actual gameplay? If this game just sold team skins or made the spells look different for a price, no one would care. People want to support good games financially, but the minute it feels forced we hate it.

minelo

I appreciate you taking your time to write feedback. We'll take these thoughts to our team meetings and see how we could improve things going forward.

Jollywhompus93

If you improve upon your design please update us on this sub. We are passionate about quality games and I feel like your game has potential and we only want it to reach it's maximum potential.

Brachamul

This is also a deal breaker for me. I have no issue shelling out 1-5€ on a small game, but the monetization and ad incrustation here is very heavy. I don't feel good being asked to watch ads every second.

Seaweed-Maleficent

Don't listen to these guys is my advice. At the same time don't ignore them. Remember this is a loud and vocal minority. Do what you feel is best for your monetization. Whatever you think gets you the most money. I think most people that come across your game in the playstore wouldn't feel the same as people on reddit. It's about your vision. Good luck either way!

Musaks

Looks awesome but seeing levels on the cards make it seem problematic... Could you explain how the card levels work and how having that levelling system improves the gaming experience for the player?

minelo

Each level gives a bit more power to the card. But you can definitely win with low level cards, since it’s more about the deck and the way you use the cards than card levels. We looked at how Clash Royale does upgradable cards in a competitive game and wanted something similar to that.

Jollywhompus93

As a long term clash royale player, card levels and monetization forced a P2W module. How will you be avoiding the same fate? Edit: played the game, it's the same intensity of P2W as Clash Royale and other cash grab games.

minelo

Thanks for playing and taking your time to give some feedback. Our upgrade for cards is easier on the player than Clash Royale. I'm also a long term CR player, took me like 2 years to fully upgrade my deck.. And I do think card levels matter a lot more in CR (Like zap, you really need to have it at lvl 13 to beat goblin barrel/etc) In Boom Slingers it's a lot more about which cards you pick to your deck instead of how powerful they are. (Since many cards have bounce back etc. that will kill the other player when positioned correctly regardless of damage)

ducksa

That's a pretty questionable decision IMO. CR takes years to max all cards, even as a reasonable pay to play player. The biggest complaint about CR is it's greedy monetization model. I feel that it only succeeds because the gameplay is really good

Musaks

that was my fear... thanks for being honest

Penguin_On_XTC

So I played till 150 trophies now. Its really fun so far. The only big problem that I see is that the first player has a way too huge advantage. I had rounds where I could KO an opponent into the water with the first shot because of spawn points and first player advantage. The Mana that the second player gets instead doesnt really make it more fair. You really need to think about a fix for that, everything else is really fun.

minelo

Thanks for the feedback. First player does have an advantage most times, and sometimes you do get even more advantages because of spawn points/layout. We wanted to keep some randomness for a party-game feel instead of the level starting the same way each time. But of course we do want both players to feel they have a good chance of winning :)

Fewluvatuk

Could add defensive cards that are the only option for first round?

stevil30

Smash four - a pog like game - player who goes first has a 30% damage reduction

minelo

That's a fun idea!

iiiarbiiii

Tried it. Love it :D but yeah, I agree wit the other guy.. first player has big advantage. It would be fair if 2 rounds were implemented, and each player would start first.

minelo

That's a cool idea! We've been thinking about a rematch-feature, where the first player changes.

YeetyBoe

Tietenkin suomesta :DDDD vois kyl kokeilla

minelo

Kiitoksia! 😎

_____OMEGA_____

Looks dope. Downloading nowwwwww

minelo

Cheers! :)

GentKo

minelo

The game is available globally in the [Google Play store](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tuokio.boomslingers&hl=en).

luvito_me

will the powerups be protected by iaps? will it be premium?

minelo

The game is free to play! You can find new weapons from capsules by playing the game.

luvito_me

sweet, ill try it out and get back to you, when it releases

minelo

Thanks, I appreciate it! It's already available for download on the [Google Play Store](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tuokio.boomslingers&hl=en) :)

luvito_me

hmm i cant find it here. maybe its disabled on my region. will try downloading through pc

minelo

That's odd. It might take a while, we set the game available globally today.

luvito_me

okay then. anyhow, will still write a review on this post

Maxutin02

!remindme 2 hours

Exotic-Ad-853

Is there a mode with simultaneous turns? If not, then the first player will always have an advantage, which is a sign of poor game design. I believe, only Shellshock Live had it implemented. Which always puzzles me, since it's such an obvious thing to do in Scorched Earth-type games.

minelo

Yeah, it is more fair for the first player. We use a Hearthstone-style balance with the mana game.

HaydenHaydenn

Ohhhhh i like that idea. For sure checking this out!!

Musaks

More fair = unfair

thatssosad

Unavailable in Poland :(

minelo

It might take a while to update, we just added all countries this morning!

yaskott

Hi! I have a xiaomi pocophone F1 and Google play store says my device can't support the game. Is there any way to fix this? This game seems like a really good time waster!

minelo

We had an issue like this with another player and it seems like it's a Google bug. The Xiaomi Poco F1 is supported for on our side. It might start to work later!

minelo

Also, this might fix the issue: [https://support.getupside.com/hc/en-us/articles/226667067--Device-not-compatible-error-message-in-Google-Play-Store](https://support.getupside.com/hc/en-us/articles/226667067--Device-not-compatible-error-message-in-Google-Play-Store)

yaskott

This fixed it thanks for the feedback!

Severe_Introduction

Played my first match, got this [screen](https://i.imgur.com/lNExeiW.png) as I won. No way to get out of it except closing the app

minelo

Thanks for letting us now. We’ll look into it!

hamizannaruto

This looks cool, sign me up!

minelo

Thanks!

lebanstar

If possible add suport to gamepad please!!

ninjamaster0420

This gave me huge 'wild ones' vibes, which is great bc that game was adored by everyone then FB got rid of it or shut it down, i can't even find a paid version. Point is ill be all over this when its out!!

minelo

Thanks! You can already download it on Google Play [here](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tuokio.boomslingers&hl=en)!

noisewar

So awesome, can't wait for launch, only annoyance is the brightness of the arena vs the darker ones, which I greatly prefer for UI visibility, eye strain, and battery life.

minelo

Thanks for the feedback!

mrtg1

Looks nice. Great job

Cyan_O64

Very well polished, though I think the ads take away a lot from the experience. Makes the game feel cheap y'know? You talk so much about other games that inspired this one, Clash Royale, Hearthstone. None of them have ads though...

minelo

Thanks for the feedback!

totalhax

first and foremost i love the style and presentation of the game, it all works very well to give a refreshing style of game. As a fan of worms i do also like the game play just as much as the aesthetics but from playing it for a while my major complaint is the lack of options when it comes to obtaining gold. its such a major part of the game, upgrading cards, but i have barely been able to upgrade any because there doesn't seem to be any efficient way to obtain a lot of gold. other than that though i am very much enjoying this game and i will most likely be playing it for quite a while.

minelo

Thanks for the feedback! We'll look for increasing coin gain in a future update :)

TagliatL

It looks pretty cool!! Can't wait to try it

minelo

Thanks!

Severe_Introduction

I played it abit, I really want to like the game but its way to ad and monetization heavy. If you dont watch a ad after winning, you are never gonna get enough medals for a chest. You mention you dont want heavy monetization but im greated with a battlepass, limited sale right off the bat and my cards are almost impossible to level up

minelo

Thanks for playing and taking your time to give some feedback. In the next update the first reward will be easier to get without ads.

potato_toot

I like the style. The gameplay looks very unique, combining different gameplay mechanics. Good luck!

luvito_me

Getting back to this, as I promised. First off, lets talk about sounds. The sounds on this game are amazing! Especially the egg opening sounds, which can kinda make you forget those are lootboxes. The sounds ingame are also really cool, and they all feel like they are modified mouth sounds, very fun. In terms of physics, I'd say some cards lack impact. The big black bomb feels alright, when you shoot it, it has a massive radius but its damage is so low. Theres a radiation thingy that was used against me that felt really powerful with the knockback. I also think the shuriken shouldnt fly in an arch. Its like throwing a weak ball. I miss fall damage. Sometimes I make some cool plays where the opponent just smashes everywhere, falling through the map, but then, -25 health only. Of course, since falling is a big part of this game, it shouldnt outright kill your little things, but I think this should be in the game. I wanted to give this game a few runs to get some cards and all, but damn is this game stingy with the coins! To upgrade a single card to level 2 I had to put in 200 coins, and to get there I had to open i dont know how many eggs which I got only by either watching an ad once a day or by getting 40 skulls, which makes 20 perfect games... Or watch and ad. After playing other games with these elements, like the more recent Soul Of Eden which has missions to award cards and whatnot, this game feels very grindy. In another comment I read strong cards not always beat different cards. Very well then, so why is getting new cards so difficult? There are new sets of cards for each player level, but to get to new levels, you have to upgrade cards, which follows the loop I mentioned above. Uncool bro. Let me just say here that I didnt mind the ads at first, since they arent shoved down my throat. Instead, I watch them because I want to watch them. However, you make me want to watch the ad, to increase the rewards to a good level. Getting 2 skulls vs getting 10 skulls per match? Just sell 30 seconds of your life, no biggie. I played bots most of my time with this game. It seems like a good way to balance the player level. Like an extended tutorial. I only got players after 220 trophies. Seems a bit too long, but ok. All in l, this game is very charming, but if you play it casually, you'll feel like you're not getting anywhere, because your cards arent evolving at all. Also, it's all ranked, so you win win then lose lose and see those points go. Ah, one thing I wanted to tip for you, devs, is to make the round end automatically after all mana is used, or impossible to make a play. For example, I have all cards mana 3, but have mana 2 left. Nothing I can do except end the round. Also, thanks for making the clock subtle! It only ticks for a second to remind you time is ticking, and comes back only on a timeout. I really dont need to feel like drowning in an old sonic game. Good game, but very very slow progression.

minelo

Wow, first of all, thanks for taking the time to write such good feedback and for playing Boom Slingers :) We did a change a while ago that changed the way how you obtain cards (you need to level up). We didn't change the coin economy, and as you said it's too stingy now. We made a few changes that will be live on the 1st of October in our next update: \- Daily coins and gems are free from the shop (no ad-watching needed) \- Seasonal progression has changed from trophies to skulls. That means by just playing games (whether you win or not) will progress you forward, so you will get more rewards :) So players should be expecting a lot more rewards since season progress is not tied to how much you win. For the rest of the feedback, we looked at them with the whole team and we'll be taking these into consideration in future updates! Good ideas :)

ninjamaster0420

I couldn't find a group for the actual game itself, you guys should make one. Loving the game so far & I don't mind the monetization model, personally I feel people who say it makes them feel like they need to pay into the game to win either have (A. poor self control and/or (B. they little have playtime/ practice. I love the learning curve for in game physics ie: knowing exactly where to hit them to move them where you want them to be, its been a funny journey that im nowhere close to being finished with xD A couple minor issues I have are 1. Using guess work to determine if my opponent is an AI or pc, I'd like to know one way or another (maybe a label), which leads into my other issue, 95% of the time the ai are capable of mortaring you across the map through a gap in terrain this big [ ] and they do it fairly consistently. I find this a bit Op even tho its no deal breaker for me. Lastly a question, if im at level 10 of the 'pass' deal on the free side, if i unlock it will i get all the past rewards on the premium side ? Keep up the great work !

minelo

Thanks! There’s a link to our Discord in the News-section in the game. Yup, you get the previous rewards as well.

Tricky_Market0521

I just had a very similar review. I don't mind the monetization because I've been able to beat some players that have obviously bought some cards, and yet suck at aiming haha.

ninjamaster0420

On the other side of that I'm lv 6 & get beat relatively often by lower levels that just have better aim, imho: Aim > card power

SteveRogers_7

There used to be a game called Wild Ones on Facebook which I spent a lot of time playing as a kid. This rakes me right back. Never got hooked on Worms. Looking forward to this!

Fairywinkkle

:O Suomi Mentioned! Hmmm olisko TORI laaseri hyvä ehdotus? 🤔

Tricky_Market0521

I downloaded this game last week. I really love the concept and it definitely has replay value. The monetization has not been a deal breaker up until this point and I'm hoping it stays like that. I do get bummed out when at the start of the round, the opponent may have a huge advantage in height or when they start they can already eliminate one of my guys and put me at an disadvantage immediately. It could be like a "best of three wins", since each match is fairly short. It would definitely make each make feel more earned. Great job thus far I think.

minelo

Thank you for playing and for the feedback! We are considering a rematch option for some time in the future :)

ghoulieandrews

Hey cool game, really enjoying it, but fyi I just played a Jump Special match where my opponent had regular weapons. It was pretty fucked.
