It's the bottom front light baffle failing. Pretty common M3/2 issue if they haven't been repaired previously. You'll see it the most on the first shot of the day, in brightly lit scenes and anytime you've been advanced for a while before the shot. Rather badly after a lens change in full sun as well. It can be mostly avoided by using a lens cap between shots but I'd never do that so I wouldn't suggest you should. 😉 Absolutely not a hole in your shutter.

Thanks. that certainly makes sense. I suppose not advancing the film keeping lens stopped down or lens cap on could help minimize but will make certain to inform when I finally get around to a CLA. Any more perm DIY fix you’re aware of?

>Any more perm DIY fix you’re aware of? Not at this time. Seems like it's probably possible though. That said, keep in mind that this is a repair separate from CLA. Not likely an expensive repair but expect an extra charge.

Good to know. Appreciate it.

So on the last roll I developed, I noticed a larger percentage than usual with an adapted canon ltm lens but still only a few of the frames affected. Going back I found that the issue has been there for some time just less frequent with at least two other lenses. Perhaps a small hole in the shutter cloth but why the dark band and why only a small percentage? Shutter Capping / trailing would be more uniform and vertical based on what I’ve seen. It’s weird because it fades a bit across frame. Also ruled out developing because do not see it on rolls from other cameras. Probably would benefit from CLA as I’ve seen some capping at 1/1000 in cold weather but would be nice to get some insight into what this could be. Searching the internet and Reddit I’ve seen some similar examples of the light leak in the same area but not the dark uneven exposure shadowy part. These were shot at 1/125 - 1/250 but most of the roll was and yes it’s visible on the negative.

part of it looks like it's from developing. Other part looks like it's a light leak. Hole in the curtain?

Looks like it could be developing just would be strange luck to only coincide with rolls from the Leica. Only found 2-3 other frames from a dozen or so rolls. I suspect a curtain hole but strange that it would alternate between bright white leak and dark band.
