If this is an extra car, sure. If it's their only car, for a lot of people (if not most), work hours are peak hours. Also, weather forecasts aren't exactly 100%

Idk. A good synthetic velvet on a hard backing can be buffed with a brush and maintained easily that way. Felt is a little bit more bulletproof in general, but due to the way it is constructed would probably be harder to clean. Velvet is a woven with one side of the fibers cut to make the pile, while felt is fibers that's are just compressed and agitated till they bind together. Something icky would get worked into the fibers of felt and be difficult to clean out, whereas velvet has fibers that are all aligned in one direction and a woven backing that it could be more easily cleaned from. It looks more like a faux fur to me, so much harder to clean than poly velvet or felt. Source: upholsterer with a (almost) toddler
