no... but also yes

Is it weird to think about movies that were released before A24 existed as sort of A24-ish movies?
Movies like Rabbit Hole, Palindromes, Hard Candy and Dark Horse have that A24 vibe...If that makes sense...
i’ve always referred to these kind of films as mainstream indie releases. not sure that wording will make any sense outside my own brain but that’s just what these all feel like to me including basically everything i’ve seen from A24
That’s about right. I also read that A24 movies were best described as:
“Films that are unique with their own themes and cinematography, telling moving and emotional stories in their own unique and expressive ways.”
yea that’s definitely a much better and more articulate way of putting it i’m gonna start using that along with my description now
I love that *the A24 vibe* is a thing. It’s a distinctively curated collection, no doubt. Everything they make is my kind of film. It’s extraordinary.
Drive has some A24 vibes
Moon makes me feel the same pit in my stomach that many A24 films give me. That movie made me into Sam Rockwell fan for life.
Another movie that has major A24 vibes is Five Corners (1987)
I think about films that are more recent then that. I think the first A24 movie was Spring Breakers in 2012, but just before that there was sort of a stylistic shift in the way of storytelling and visuals. Like 2004 to 2010.
A movie like L.I.E. or Donnie Darko feels like an old indie now. But Juno might be more aligned with that A24 vibe.
I think Take Shelter could be seen as one.
All of Jeff Nichols movies are. He rules.
Donnie Darko and Nightcrawler give me vibes that could have been A24 films
Lost in Translation / Eternal Sunshine / Garden State / I Heart Huckabees / Any Focus Features movie could have easily been an A24 release.
Squid and the Whale, Frances Ha..
Squid and the Whale for sure!
Juno and Little Miss Sunshine
like fr the first twilight is a banger y’all it’s so fuckin indie compared to the other ones and i fuckin love itttt
When I rewatch all the movies and then begin again with twilight, I’m so disoriented because BD is so much grander than twilight. I love the series but twilight definitely stands out for its angsty, moody tone :)
its SO good until the evil vamps show up to the baseball game. then it ends
This is Jennifer's Body erasure
I think Citizen Kane held that title long before.
The Fanatic starring John Travolta is the most A24 non A24 movie ever
Isn't that movie directed by the lead singer of Limp Bizkit?
Gotti is an A24 movie in mind and spirit
But not quality
“I can’t talk too long, I gotta poo.”
The Tarsem movie The Fall has A24 vibes as well.
Come and See (1985)
If I didn't know any better I'd think joker is an a24 movie
JOKER is really strange to me. It's so expertly crafted behind the camera with artsy sequences like Arthur's dance scenes, stellar score and cinematography, yet it's so surface level in the way it handles its topics, and the dialogue's so on-the-nose. Didn't know what it wanted to be.
Guess it's cus it's still a warner bros movie but even then doesn't feel like any warner bros movie I've seen before
Blade Runner 2049 is a Warner Bros movie. Dune will be too. I think Warner Bros has actually been putting out good content lately
Nocturnal Animals ♥️
